Back from the Vog (Blog Entry by dag)

I wish I could feel strange outside of America. I feel strange enough inside of it, anyway.

I'd love to see someone crash their Escalade while actually trying to off-road, then bitch because it ruined the suspension...and the rims. THEY SPINNIN' NIG... never mind.

I was going to say that Dog the Bounty Hunter had an Escalade...hmm... I like Dag the Bounty Hunter better.

Top Gear - Hummer H1 & H2

Tour my old stomping grounds, via high speed police chase (Wildwestshow Talk Post)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Exciting. Now if this guy had played more video games, he'd realize that blindly firing out his car window is not only a waste of bullets, but also a great way to increase the intensity and number of police.

If you plan to evade the police, you really need to think about strategy. Perhaps you could pull over and when the officer gets out of his car, you slam on the gas, buying you precious seconds to get away.

Also, study the geography of the area in advance. Note the location of tunnels or confusing but passable off road routes. The trip through the park was a good idea, but not knowing where the lake was ultimately ended the chase.

If you must use a gun, conceal it until you've run out of options.

Hagglunds BV206

Tracon says...

I used to drive one of these in the Canadian military its amazing and can go anywhere any time. Best off road truck ever in any condition even in -60 below yellow knife these things just purr like nothing is wrong and warm as hell to when you need them to be. I love this truck and wish i had the cash to buy one. Everest is a mole hill if your in a BV 206. And you can fit 6 of front and 10 in the back if you really have to and we did a few times. That and i know for a fact this thing saved at least 3 jumpers lives after they broke there legs, hip and one arm on a drop zone. One of them would have bleed to death if i wasn't driving this thing. I've seen them dropped from planes to and they run like nothing happened man i wish i still got to drive these. BV-206 best off road vehicle ever.

Hummer Sucks

Sylvester_Ink says...

At first I thought it was reference to the Humvee, the military version. But yeah, the commercial version is more for show than anything else, as there are other commercial vehicles that can do much of what the Hummer does, but better.
As for the Humvee, it wasn't built as an off-road vehicle in the first place, but rather as a small military truck that could do pretty decently off road if necessary. Much of the power is used for when it has to carry heavy items, move quickly, and tow heavy items. Better to have more power, just in case.

Top Gear - Range Rover Sport vs Challenger 2 tank

jimnms says...

I want to know what the tank crew would have done if the wind wasn't blowing the smoke into the woods.

BTW, the first M1 Abrams had a 105mm rifled cannon, but was replaced by a 120mm smooth bore cannon in the M1A1 and M1A2 versions. The rounds fired out of the Abrams deploy stabilizing fins after it leaves the barrel, so there is no need to have a rifled barrel.

I also just looked up some specs on the Challenger2 and M1 Abrams. The challenger only does 40kph off road which is 24mph, the M1 does 30mph. I believe the German Leopard2 is currently the fastest tank.

Hummer: can't drive over rocks

Payback says...

#1 - Driver's a noob. He "gunned it" when he high-centered. When the tire finally grabbed, of course it's going to break something.

#2 - It's a Chev, of course it's going to break something. Chev is for dirt road, Ford is for off-road.

#3 - He shoulda practiced with a $150 Toyota pickup like everyone else does.
