Texas Graffiti Writer Gets 8 Years of Prison Without Parole

syncron says...

Kid? He's 18, that's when you get trialed as an adult... And he isn't even black. Good riddance IMO, graffiti is not art, it is vandalism. The prick should have gone to paint a mural or something. This guy and his sentence should serve as a strong example of legal consequence to all prospective gangsters out there.

What are you reading now? (Books Talk Post)

deputydog says...

i'm not reading a novel at the moment, just shitloads of books related to architecture, machinery and graffiti. it's a fucking blast.

'mural art: large scale art from walls around the world' is one of the best books i ever got my hands on. the photos in it are ridiculously awesome and it's the kind of book anyone and everyone will be impressed by. seriously. did i tell you it's fucking awesome yet?

'spacecraft: fleeting architecture and hideouts' is a book i've had for over a year now and i've just returned to it for the umpteenth time. even if you don't appreciate architecture you'll love this book. it's got a house in it where the furniture slides into the wallspace, a treehouse on top of a skyscraper, an incredible structure in thailand called 'hybrid muscle' which the locals attach buffalo to in order to generate electricity. if i could marry a book it'd be this one.

'over: the american landscape at the tipping point' is a photographic wankfest. this alex maclean fella got in a small plane and took hundreds of aerial photos of the american landscape where nature and humans have collided. it's a treat.

Ahh yes. The soviet bloc style of apartment building. We have plenty of these where I am too, but very few have murals, let alone many with murals anywhere near as nice!

I've replied on the thread.

Extremist cultures thrive and become dangerous under oppression - this is what happened in my country. They don't just pop up out of nowhere. And still that culture exists although it has become highly politicised and peaceful in the last 10 years. This is why there has always been solidarity between Ireland and Palestine, there are Palestinian flags and murals in the city where I live.

Israel is now engaged in genocide and the whole world knows it. There is no justification for genocide, ever.

People are being slaughtered out there, trying to justify where you lay blame just isn't good enough.

Irishman - A moving and artistic bit of cinema; with all the honesty of a Leni Riefenstahl film. True, these people lead a tragic existance, because of their sick culture they choose to.

They raise their children on bloodthirsty versions of Mickey Mouse, then send them out with explosives strapped to them. They choose to buy weapons over peaceful impliments. Before the unilateral pullout the Israeli greenhouses in Gaza produced bountiful crops; after, they were smashed in a nihilistic rage.

It's sad, but Gaza has only it's own to blame. I hope for their sake that when this current depraved set of leaders is killed in their tunnels, that the Gazans choose peace and coexistance with the Jews, or it will happen again.

MINK, jonny, nazdorvia, deathcow, all hit it-to musicians, this guy lacks the quality that developing a sound of one's own produces, but plays the manic, wreckless noodling card off, quite well....like everyone fawning over a guy like buckethead, or Stanley Jordan who can make dreamy sounds, and has an initial presence appeal, but the technical grace can only carry you so far.

Cobain? His tortured, fast-burning flame of soul, wash a white-washed cry for help, and for me, that over-shadows any potential for greatness of merit....just look at the ilk that treat Kurt like a god-buncha manic-depression candidates, coffee addicted and screaming for help in their own way, 20-somethings, with a fried internal navigation system....

another one really gets me pissed-Dave Matthews and his College Cult Crooning, ....that man's shit, runs together like a Jackson Pollock mural-and the kids who worship him wouldn't know good music if it collided with their flavor-of-the-week, world views.....

Doc Watson, Django Reinhardt, Merle Travis-
Jeff Beck, Zappa, Ronnie Montrose, yes, the Winter Bros., hell....Angus Young....whaddya know, most of these guys are either still alive, or lived long lives with smiles on their faces...not needles in their arms, or booze in their livvers.....

Christian - Atheist Discussion on the Show 30 Days

swampgirl says...

theo, I had a camp preacher once tell us (as children here) that when the rapture happened everyone's bodies would be taken up...but the blood would be left behind. Pretty gory huh? He also said that the damned souls were actual worms slithering in torment. He told us these lovely stories has he chalk drew murals of people burning in hell. Nice summers.

I was scared to death as a kid of 'the rapture'...didn't want my dog left alone.
