Curb your misunderstanding

CrushBug says...

OMG, this reminds me of the time I accidentally picked up a prostitute.

3 jobs ago, one of my co-workers took the bus along the route I drove each morning. After talking about it, we agreed that I would stop in this parking lot near where she would transfer bus routes and I could give her a ride to work. I would wait a few minutes and if she was there I would give her a ride, otherwise I would just head to work. I ended up giving her a ride about 2 or 3 mornings each week, so that worked out.

One morning, I was stopped in the parking lot and the door opened and this strange woman sat down. I looked at her and she asked me some weird question (don't remember) and I just said that I didn't think I was her ride and that I was waiting for someone else. She apologized and got out. I remember thinking that she was wearing some odd clothing for the fall and how cold it was this morning, but whatever. I dress like an idiot most times, so I am not going to judge someone's high-heels, shorts, ridiculously short jacket, and overly large earrings. My co-worker didn't show that morning, so I drove to work.

It was about 10 minutes later, during the drive, that I realized that I had almost picked up a prostitute that morning.

Unlocked - A World With and Without Planned Parenthood

RFlagg says...

Many, if not most, that oppose places like Planned Parenthood, and oppose most methods of birth control, oppose it, because they think it encourages promiscuity. Sex is of course limited only to marriage in their world view, which is why heavy red states have abstinence only education... which tends to result in them having the highest teen and repeat teen pregnancy rates. And some would argue that the only function of sex is for procreation. The Bible even forbid pulling out (Gen. 38:8–10), though one could argue that was for one guy in particular. Anyhow, basically they see pregnancy as part of God's design and purpose for sex. The fact it has physical pleasures, is a gift from God for the married couple.

In the case of IUDs, they believe the old myth that the IUD causes abortions, that it lowers the chance that a fertilized egg will implant. The reality is that it doesn't at all, at least for modern, non-copper clad IUDs. Once upon a time, the old copper ones did have a very small impact on the chance a fertilized egg could implant, and even modern ones that have far less copper cladding on a wire around it, can have a very very small chance of decreasing implantation. But those ones aren't really used that often. Basically, the IUD is the most effective form of birth control, but it is opposed to stereotypes and lies. Modern IUDs work to prevent fertilization in the first place, via the hormones in them and design, if an egg is fertilized, it still has the same chance of implantation... however the chance of an egg being fertilized is very low, as sperm mobility is seriously hurt, and of course the woman's body lowers egg release too.

Plan B also doesn't stop implantation, or if it does, it is near modern copper clad wire IUDs (and more recent evidence shows it is likely even far less than that). It prevents the women's body from releasing an egg... if an egg is released already, it won't do any good. However, once again, facts don't matter to those on the right, and they promote it as a morning after abortion pill.

Of course, a healthy young woman, who's optimally fertile, only 30-40% of her fertilized eggs will implant, meaning that God Himself aborts about 60-70% of babies (since they define it as a full baby and human life at conception) in optimally fertile women. Now.. you have to add to that, natural miscarriages for other reasons... and the odds of having a baby really are against you naturally. The thing I don't understand about those who are attempting to starve Planned Parenthood is -- if they care so much for reducing abortions, why the holy heck don't they promote birth control?

It is insanity.

maddow-how comey's firing is like watergate

newtboy says...

Today, the morning after firing Comey, (possibly for requesting more funding for the investigation into Trump's administration colluding with Russia yesterday), Trump is meeting in secret (closed door meetings) with the two Russian diplomats that are indisputably directly involved in the collusion on tape.

There has yet to be a shred of evidence that even appears to exonerate them of these charges of treason, and every single action they take indicates guilt.

Insane that we are now in a position where we have to hope this follows Watergate's lead, because the alternative path is directly into tyrannical despotism.

Consent is actually easy to understand, yeah?

00Scud00 says...

But if the guy doesn't even know he's actually forcing her to drink tea, how much responsibility can the guy be reasonably expected to take on? She says yes, perhaps even emphatically so and then gives no indication that she has changed her mind all throughout the act and only changes her mind the morning after.
According to this video he did everything he should have and yet he may still wind up being accused of forcing tea on someone.
As for the mentally disturbed, there are many people with mental conditions that can seem perfectly normal on the outside. You have to crank the handle a good number of times before the song ends and the Jack pops out of the box.

bareboards2 said:

Yeah, but what is more interesting is to ask WHY there are takesies backsies.

And if as the tea maker you really understand that can happen, and don't let tea making become your biological imperative, and help stop the tea shaming that this society engages is, I'll repeat myself. Because it is an important point to really let land.

There will be much less takesies backsies if everyone slows down and really consents to drinking tea. (And much less forced tea drinking, where the guy doesn't even know he is forcing the tea drinking and can play all butt hurt -- she said she wanted tea!)

There are mentally disturbed people of both genders who get involved in tea drinking. Both genders need to be more careful about who they drink tea with, who they are alone with.

Westjet 737-700 pushed across the tarmac by strong winds

AeroMechanical says...

I saw this sort of thing happen in big college parking lot once. There was freezing rain the night before, nobody salted, and there was a quarter inch of ice covering the entire surface. Then, at about 10 in the morning after 100 or so cars had arrived, it got REAL windy.

By the time I left at noon, cars were all over the place. Crashed into each other (doing serious damage), wedged together in improbable groupings. A few had even gone over the hill leading up to the lot.

Miraculously, my car was untouched and exactly where I left it. I believe this was because it was by far the crappiest car in the lot and generates a natural repellent force. Could have been all the rusted out holes in the bodywork too.

The Best Part Is Going Home

andyboy23 says...

Heh.. yeah, the funny part is that I DO still go to concerts in my 30s -- I'm setting the alarm to pick up those Tool tickets the next morning after a late show like in the video -- even though I identify with all the stuff in the vid.

NIN was a great show, I saw them recently as well.

@eric3579, that alternate is also *blocked

Hola to the rescue

For the record kids, you can still go to concerts in your 30s.

I went to see NIN and Queens of the Stone Age just two weeks ago. It was epic, and I'm 36. If I hadn't had my hand in a cast, I'd have been taking names in the moshpit too, which I will do next month at Beastwars!
