Meteorite isn't the correct term. This is a video of a "Meteor" (or fireball).

I thought I made myself clear in the description, but the subject is a bit confusing. They are called meteoroids while they swivel around in the solar system, meteors when they hit an atmosphere and can be seen as shooting stars and meteorites when they hit solid ground.

Canadian citizens awoke today to the tragic news that an overnight meteorite impact failed to destroy Alberta. Eyewitnesses say the Armpit of Canada was still exactly where it was last night before they went to bed, despite being impacted by roughly 1/2 ton of falling space rocks.

"Oh, geeze -- the least it coulda done was take out Saskatchewan, eh?" said Calgary resident Bob Horton. "Perfectly good meteorite impact and it didn't even scorch Edmonton! What do we gotta do to get ridda this place, eh? Can't the Americans test nuclear weapons or something here? I mean, talk about Hoserville!"

The Prime Minister said free beer and back-bacon would be provided to the sufferers of the non-destruction of the Provence. Further, he said Canada would look into the idea of carving a giant target into Alberta's endless wheat fields in case there's another bollide looking for a place to impact.

An immensely late reply here, but from a quote in the text above:

It looks like this was actually sped up. I was thinking a similar thing when I first saw it, but I've heard it said elsewhere about destruction on such a massive scale - it's not as fast as in the movies.

I recently posted a similar video without the narration and some music that I think has more “impact” on how powerful an image of a meteor hitting the Earth would be.

Very cool. As close to free propulsion as you can get. I always feel a twinge of sadness when I realize I probably will not see colonization in my lifetime. Then again, maybe that sadness is just the Phillip Glass score in the background. The one serious issue concerning solar sails are tears due to micro-meteorites and other space trash. I heard that they are thinking about self healing sails but that is all I've heard.

Im hella excited but does anyone else kinda see some overlap? I mean this could easily of been a WoW trailer with more of a LOtR's flare to it. Nothing against Blizzard but the whole meteorite is straight from the trailer of the Burning Legion but this time is the Burning Hell...hmm

I'm curious why the chart shows the temperature being warmer at the K-T Boundary. The whole reason the Earth experienced a rise in mammals during the Tertiary period is because of the extremely cold weather.

According to the reading I've done, the dinosaurs died because things got very, very cold at the end of the Cretaceous Period when a meteorite hit the Earth. Ash and debris was sent up into the atmosphere, blocking the sun, causing these extremely cold temperatures. Dinosaurs were ectotherms, so they warmed their bodies using heat from outside of them, most commonly the sun. Mammals are Endothermic, obviously, so they can raise their metabolic rate to generate heat internally without outside sources of heat. Thus, the rise of the mammals.

So, why would the chart show the temperature being warm? Very odd.

the shape doesn't add up to a plane to me.. i'd say meteorite/whatever the correct term is.. it's not exactly UNcommon

I'm with schmawy, I'd say a plane is the best bet. It looks firey, but I think that's because the whole video is tinted orange. It moves too much for a comet and way too slow for a meteorite.
