How To Wreck Your Precious Lambo Aventador

Honda Commercial - Impossible Made Possible

EvilDeathBee says...

Honda have really dropped off the radar for me recently, and I used to really fancy them. After getting the new 2014 Mazda 3 GT, it really puts to shame Honda's (and many other manufacturer's, tbh) offerings, they're just dull

Still, sweet ad though!

Little Russian Girl is a Car Expert

101 years old and driving an 81-year-old car

Yogi says...

As awesome as this was it actually depressed me. She gets an AWESOME Packard to play with when she's older as a reminder of how cool her younger days were. What do we get...a Mazda Miata? A Honda Civic? We have to reach further back for a cooler car than what was made during our crap car lifetimes.

Who Saved thousands of jobs? Why, it was Obama!

xxovercastxx says...

Since the bailouts did happen, I'm glad they worked, because the worst case scenario obviously would have been that we dumped millions of dollars into these companies and they still tanked.

But I still would have preferred we let these companies fail, or they pick themselves up and turn things around like Ford did.

American cars have sucked for 20+ years now. They couldn't compete on a level playing field so we put tariffs on foreign cars to artificially raise their prices. On a slanted playing field, American cars still can't compete. Why? Because, overall, they're garbage; that's why.

We already voted to let them go out of business by not buying their cars. Anyone who steps in and says, "No, I'm sure you all really want the exact opposite of what you said, so we're going to loan them your money." is totally out of line. No means no.

Would it have hurt the job market to let them die? Yes, unquestionably. But the demand for cars does not decrease because companies go out of business. If GM and Chrysler sank, it would have been a huge opportunity for Ford to grow to fill the gap. Toyota, Honda, Kia, Mazda, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Nissan all have American plants as well, so jobs lost to foreign manufacturers aren't necessarily lost to foreign workers.

World's Greatest Drag Race! - 11 cars on air strip

rottenseed says...

You know what else is good at cornering? Mazda Miata. It can corner well because an inherent property: it's weight. It's not engineering, it's a game of, "you don't really need air conditioning, do you?">> ^Jinx:

>> ^rottenseed:
lol lotus?? pfffff lotus is SHITE! "Can't make this shitty Toyota engine more powerful, so let's just get rid of all the comforts and make it lighter" Fucking douches

Yes, how DARE they design a car that can take corners twice as fast as anything with a half tonne of engine in the front.
I was quite surprised the Nissan GTR won. I knew it was fast but wow, not that fast. Sub $100,000 too. If I ever get absurdly rich thats the car I'm buying.

Top Gear hosts make fun of Mexicans

jimnms says...

If they were going to describe a car based on racial stereotypes, wouldn't a Mexican car be able to drive across rivers, jump 30ft. fences and work farm land?

To be fair, Mexicans practically build all the cars now anyway, why not build one of your own. Here's a list of car manufacturers who have cars that are currently built in Mexico: Acura, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, FAW, Ferrari, Fiat, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hummer, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jeep, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Lincoln, Maserati, Mastretta, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mercury, MINI, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Pontiac, Porsche, Radical, Renault, Saab, SEAT, Smart, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo. Its simular how to how the top sim racers could probably beat allot of the profesoinal drivers out there.

Racing sims help you to get to know the track and your lines, but this is complete BS. Have you ever been in a race car? It's a completely different experience than a racing sim.
The only "gamer" to turn pro was Lucas Ordoñez. He was already an amateur racer, and it still took ~1 year of training. If you think you can take the best sim racer with no actual track experience, dump him in a real car for a month or two and expect them to do well, you are ridiculous.

I haven't driven a Race car , but I know people that do sim racing who have jumped into cars and beaten people by over 1/2 second on a national level .

I would not describe sim racers as "gamers" there are at least 20 sim racers that would probably beat 70% of drivers out racing today , if they were given 6 months. ITS PURELY DOWN TO COST.

GT3 although probably the best console bassed "sims" , is pretty shit when compared to the top pc simulators intemrs of getting feal , But the fact is anything below GP2 , star Mazda , is so fucking slow and non reactive a talented sim racer would have absaluty no issues racing to a high level.

obvously u have allot of shit sim racers , but there are allot of people that are better than the majority of real world race drivers excluded purely by cost. ( I follow all the driving schooler ship programs and events allwing sim racers or noobs to get into a real race car , and so far nearly all of them are a scam to ethor milk money out of people or purely a promotoinal tool for a game developer and dont actualy lead to annything of anny sugnificance

Obama Calls Out Republicans About Corporate Donations

GeeSussFreeK says...

Don't they still have to answer to stock holders? I mean, the "books" would have to mention something about donations to "XYZ" foundation right? The idea itself seems kind of silly to me; like asking the CEO of old spice have to pop on the end of every commercial of side brands they own. Or like Ford's CEO having to come on at the end of a Mazda commercial and say, hey look, we own this really. With the internet especially, we have the power investigate things like this to a level unknown to man. I am all for holding large corporate interests at an arms length from manipulation capital hill, but a tap dance at the end of a commercial seems a bit much. And ultimately, it could undermine private donation anonymity which I consider a very dangerous road to travel. I still hold that we need to investigate if we want corporate charters to exist in the way they exist currently, as the seem to offer to much protection of liability from risk, but that is a subject of a different conversation.

O ya, and if anyone thinks that Demos are any less corporate stooges then Rep, then they are pretty fool hearty. You can bet your hindquarters pet sponsors of Dems will have some kind of exemption or get to write the rules, just like Goldman got to sentence their former competitor to bankruptcy and then purchased all their assets.

What if I have diarrhea real bad and I'm struggling to get across the road to the bathroom emporium and I'm moving kind of slow. Here comes ole ForgedReality in his Mazda Miata on an ego trip thinking everyone is out to get him so you clip me with a mirror. How's that responsible? If you're driving a car, you have a personal responsibiliy to not hit people with it regardless of what you THINK their intentions are.
And for the record, I've been clipped twice by a mirror while walking on the side of the road and hit with a bumper since I was apparently crossing too slow for some retard who thinks his car is a toy

haha.. Mazda Miata. I drive a sport pickup.

But if you've been hit that many times, it tells me that maybe you shouldn't be playing in traffic, pretending you're a vroom-vroom-car. I'm considerate of drivers when I'm walking. I get the fuck out of their way as quickly as I can, say if I'm walking by a shopping center driveway, or thru a parking lot, or even a crosswalk or something.

I know how annoying it is to have some thug wigger gangster punk bitch taking his sweet time because he thinks he's "all that," and doesn't take other people into consideration. It's the same kind of person who doesn't wave to the person who politely let them merge in a line of traffic, or the guy who doesn't even make a "thank you" gesture when someone stops to let you walk by.

It's all about a general deficit of respect that stupid people have grown up with the last couple generations. Everybody's out for themselves, and it's just "me, me, me" as if nobody else even matters.

So yes, if someone hits you with their car, they're either homicidal, mentally disturbed, or, much more likely, you're just a prick.

-edit-
Also, I guess to more directly answer your question: If it appears you're struggling to cross the road, limping and grasping at your buttcheeks, yeah, I'll be like, "damn that motherfucker really has to take a shit!" I might even stop to help you across, so long as you promise not to spray rectal treasure all over me in the process.

I'm talking about the pieces of shit (usually black, for some reason) that walk DOWN the street, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, not even really making an effort to get to one side or the other. They look back at you, like, "wutchoo gon' do, honkey?" and keep slowly walking down the street, like they aren't gunna move for you, so you better go AROUND them. Okay, so now you're forcing me into the oncoming lane because you're a dick? Fuck you. You're not endangering MY safety; you're risking me blowing a fuse and endangering YOURS.

Haha! I would, if the stupid pedestrians in the street had some respect for the vehicles on the road, and the people trying to get somewhere. If you're literally walking down the middle of the road, taking your sweet time to get off to the side, you deserve whatever happens, because you're purposely doing it just to fuck with people.

Towing a car from a tight space

I would be especially worried if I owned a car that was mostly sold as front-wheel drive, but the one I owned was one of a few rare, all-wheel drive models(which I do).

Let me guess - Eclipse GSX?

Nope, but a good guess. Mazda 323 GTX. Only ~1300 sold in North America.

Tiddy Bear - Funny Infomercial (2 mins)

Stormsinger says...

Okay, the commercial and especially the name are kind of creepy. -But- this product does claim to address a real need...one I've found myself annoyed with more than once. It's the only real complaint I have about my Mazda, the seat belt is twisted the wrong way, and the leading edge of the belt cuts into my neck/collarbone. Not sure if it's worth $15, but it might well be.

QI - Christmas, Christianity and Mithras - Funny

HadouKen24 says...

>> ^scottishmartialarts:
Mithras was a Persian god, not Roman. Although his mystery cult was very, very popular among the Roman Legions. Wherever we have evidence of a Legion presence, we also find evidence of Mithras cult. As I recall Mithras was Ahura Mazda's (the infinitely good god of the Zoroastrian faith) general in his crusade against the devil Ahriman. Darius the Great's conquests were largely motivated out of missionary zeal to spread the Zoroastrian religion.

Well, Mithra was the Persian name. Adding the "s" on the end was just how it was Latinized. But the Roman Mithraic cult doesn't, as far as scholars can tell, have much in common with the Persian cult beyond the name and a few elements of symbolism--a lion-headed "Arrimanus," for instance, a clear Latinization of Ahriman. It's perfectly acceptable to refer to the Roman version of Mithras as a Roman god.

It has to be said, though, that Fry's facts about Mithras are just wrong. In the first place, we don't actually know what the central beliefs about Mithras were. They were Mysteries, not be written down or revealed to outsiders. The doctrines of Mithraism perished with its last follower. Reconstructions of Mithraic doctrine like the ones Fry read are merely speculative interpretations of the images found in the Mithraea--the caves where the Mysteries of Mithras were enacted.

However, some of the things Fry said are just plain wrong even as mere speculation. Mithras is never depicted as being born in a cave or manger, for instance, but emerging from a rock or an egg. He didn't die for anyone's sins or to give people eternal life. The central image of Mithras was instead the tauroctony--Mithras' slaying of a bull, usually assisted by a dog, a serpent, and a crab, clearly astrological symbolism. While there are a few superficial similarities with Christianity--as Fry mentioned, the head of the cult of Mithras was called Papa, just as the Pope is--they do not seem to go very deep.

And finally, it would be very strange for the December 25th date of Christmas to come from the cult of Mithras simply because it was a private mystery religion. Public celebrations just weren't allowed.

However, I'm a little surprised that Fry didn't mention Dies Natalis Solis Invicti--the Birthday of the Unconquered Sun. It was celebrated in the late Roman Empire around the same time as Christmas as a public holiday, and so is a prime candidate for being an influence on the date of Christmas.

His quick dismissal of Saturnalia as being only somewhat influential, though, is just plain wrong. Many of the traditions of Christmas clearly come out of Saturnalia--gift-giving, visiting friends, and lavish feasts and celebrations. Many elements of Northern European Christmas celebrations just as clearly come from the pagan holiday "Jol" or "Yule," such as hanging mistletoe as a sign of peace and love, and the ornamenting of an evergreen tree.
