The Great VideoSift Coming -Out Thread (Happy Talk Post)

10722 says...

Hello, my username is just a word in a dictionary.

Debacle [day-bah-kl] n. disastrous collapse or defeat

I envisaged the ultimate outcome of me joining Videosift and made my choice based on that. (The word also reminds of an amusing line in High Fidelity.)

I have many likes and interests (music, guitar, art, nature, photography, laughter, etc. etc.). Mostly though, I live my life inside my own head.

I spend most of my time happily on my own.

I am 27ish and live & work near Manchester, UK.

I live in San Francisco. If you're coming to this area (or are you headed to L.A.?) we should meet up

I spent a year studying in Lund, not too far from Malmo, and I agree; Sweden is pretty awesome. (I unfortunately never made it over to the U.K.)

My name is Ste and I'm originally from the Manchester,UK I'm currently working for Massive Entertainment (hence why I did not post any of the WIC videos!) in Sweden as an environment artist. Previously worked 5 years in UK in the games industry as an artist; and will be going over to the US hopefully soon as well (I am a self taught artist)

I like drawing (I have not done much of) or playing them computer games - I am also trying to get my ass back in shape so I go to the gym.

I love to spend time with my girlfriend, especially as she is in the US at the moment. She joined videosift too (Lady Death), I think becasue of all the links I sent her! I miss her lots so it will be nice to meet up again with her in the coming months, when she comes here

Sweden is awesome! UK is awesome! California is...awesome? I will know soon I hope!

I used to sift while I waited for stuff to compile at work (can't do much while you waited) so then I joined in November last year, but it was only about 3 months ago I started to post videos

I really like this site, so recently I became a charter memeber too
Everyone is really nice here, and it has the air of an "intelligent community"

So I love to read everyones comments too. Oh and for the record, politics good, farting cats, they have a place in the world too...

I hae a website but I haven't updated it in sooo long...

How the English are Perceived Around the World

Time To Get Serious, Cats! Schmawy turns 100... (Sift Talk Post)

kronosposeidon says...

Did you know that schmawy is an Englishman? It's true. He could have fooled me, because he types without an accent*. (Though his Serious Cat avatar looks more like a Manchester feline, IMHO.) Anyway, he lives in the good ole USA now, so at least he respects that we are no longer a British colony. Economically, now we are a Chinese colony. Hurray for progress!

Oh, and God save the Queen, schmawy.

*Yes, I see the irony in ascribing an English accent to an Englishman. I've always seen the irony in ascribing an English accent to an Englishman. Just roll with it. Don't be a douchebag.

Handcounted votes favor Obama - Diebold favors Hillary (Election Talk Post)

joedirt says...

Dag, not really so. I'm looking at a spreadsheet right now. Two things are involved. One, HCPB counties are the smaller ones. Diebold counted are the larger one. There is some overlap in medium sized polls.

There was a slight upward trend for larger counties voting stronger for Clinton. The main thing that put Hillary over the top was the two largest counties, Manchester and Nashua were 45% Hillary, 30% Obama, and they make up 17% of the total votes. Now it is not out of the question that the machines in those two counties were hacked, and that would make more sense then even risking monkeying with smaller counties. It is very easy and relatively cheap in NH to get a hand recount (that is honest). So, it is very unlikely that anyone would risk it here (unless they have plans and ability to switch the ballots). It wouldn't be worth getting caught stealing here, why not save it for general election of the millions of precincts that no one does pay attention to.

Fox vs Ron Paul via CNN

Grimm says...

Since FOX is locking him out of tonights GOP forum, Dr. Paul will bring his message of liberty and constitutional government directly to the people with real questions, real answers, as fair and balanced as politics gets.

Tonight on local New Hampshire television and simulcast on this website at http://www.ronpaul2008.com/snippets/127/manchester-townhall/ , Ron Paul will take questions from an audience of undecided voters in the Granite State.

Improbable Collapse: The Demolition of Our Republic.

Par says...

Thirdly, he states that the fire at the Windsor Tower serves as a compelling example of the fact that fires cannot significantly affect structural steel. However, the construction of the Windsor tower differed significantly from that of the World Trade Center buildings. The Windsor tower had a concrete as well as a steel supporting structure. In fact, (and this is why Jones' example is such a poor one) the unprotected steel sections of the Windsor tower did collapse:

Case Studies: Madrid Windsor Tower Fire:

It was believed that the multiple floor fire, along with the simultaneous buckling of the unprotected steel perimeter columns at several floors, triggered the collapse of the floor slabs above the 17th floor. The reduced damage below the 17th floor might provide a clue...

On the other hand, the reinforced concrete central core, columns, waffle slabs and transfer structures performed very well in such a severe fire. It is clear that the structural integrity and redundancy of the remaining parts of the building provided the overall stability of the building.
It's also worth bearing in mind that the Windsor tower wasn't hit by an airliner.
