David Cross: Why America Sucks at Everything

bcglorf says...

I know you're joking, but you aren't wrong.

As a Canadian I am pretty sick of hearing some of the very snide attitudes up here about look at us and how we afford public healthcare at similar taxation to the US. How dumb are you guys to be spending so much money on evil killing machines. snicker snicker

The thing of it is though, we spend as good as nothing on military spending by comparison, and yeah, by saving that money we get to cheap out on taxes and still afford the public health program we have. However, we 100% are earning that luxury on the backs of US taxpayers funding a military that protects BOTH our country and theirs.

We are getting a free ride and mocking the driver for spending so much on their car that we absolutely rely upon because our car is missing two wheels and the engine needs to be rebuilt and we're too cheap to be bothered.

Sure, but we got TANKS! We got so many tanks some never get used and go directly into mothballed fleets parked in the desert. What kind of excessive tank force does Canada have? *mic drop

What’s Driving California’s Mass Exodus?

HugeJerk says...

I keep hearing about how everyone is leaving California, yet more and more housing is being built in my area. Tons of "Luxury" condo's in the Orange, Anaheim, Santa Ana area has been going up over the last decade.

16 oz bottles of soda were to share with three people

Briguy1960 says...

I remember when the 16oz first came out.
They looked huge and it was quite a luxury to buy one for I think 25 cents back in the day.
There was nothing about it being meant to share with 3 people though that I can recall.
Back in those days as kids we did pass it amongst ourselves if someone felt generous.

Kimberly Jones Explains Why People Protest, Riot & Loot

Digitalfiend says...

I understand and support the protesting as there are clearly systemic racism issues that have long needed to be addressed. I understand the rioting - people are fed up and tired of inaction. But I can't agree with her explanation and rationalization of the looting. I highly doubt all of the looters were impoverished and just wanted to sample the luxuries that they see other more well-off people enjoying. Instead, I suspect many of them saw an opportunity in the chaos of the protests and riots to take advantage of the situation. White, black, it doesn't matter - there are always people out there that are more than willing to steal when the opportunity presents itself. It's wrong, plain and simple, and, in my opinion, trying to rationalize and forgive that type of behaviour weakens her otherwise reasonable argument.

Just because you can go fast, doesn't mean you should

-Shitty facial hair, check
-Overweight in a sports outfit, check,
-Used luxury brand car, check
-Awful music, check

You can see this "accident" coming from a mile away. And unfortunately probably hear that shitty music and subwoofer from a mile away too.

Saturation Diving- You're in a different world

28 days in that tiny room with 3 other people yikes!

Oh and then you have to work under water where you can't see in between all of that.

That was seriously something.

I guess we'll definitely have candidates for Asteroid mining, since that will be quite a bit more luxurious in comparison.

Luxury Cars & Economy Tows

skinnydaddy1 says...

are the people who are parking there hurting someones business? Is it making it difficult for employees to get in and out? are the businesses even open that late? if not, the tow truck owners are scumbags. towing a few "Luxury" cars does not make up for the fact that 99% of their business is ripping off those that can't afford to get their cars back from being held hostage by these shit stains.

Teacher Fed Up With Students Swearing, Stealing, And Destroy

JiggaJonson says...

@Mordhaus I agree with you, and I didn't mean to say that was the ONLY pinpoint that was worth noting. But as someone who graduated in 2002, I've seen a steady gradation of change over the past 16 years that can in a large part be traced back to those policy changes.

I'm also not blaming the textbook companies for being for-profit companies. But, much like healthcare in this country, education is something people NEED. It's not a luxury, it's a necessity. I'm of the opinion that it should be treated like the social service that it is and the blame rests with lawmakers that force schools into patronage of testing producers with little or no oversight written into the law.

On your 1-5 list:

1) That can be a difficult subject, you're oftentimes doubling the cost of wardrobes for poor families, and it's the kid who can only afford 1 uniform that's full of tatters that gets bullied anyway.

2) I'm not anti-standards, but the way that those standards are assessed are not reflected in the tests the students take. Moreover, VERY FEW jobs (if any) require a person to answer A B C D over and over as a way to make a living. In other words, answering multiple choice questions is not a skill most people need.

3) Yes. My average classroom size is 28. 50 minutes with 28 kids in a room, you do the math on the individualized attention they get.

4) I've seen some counties near my locale that have instituted a no cell phone ordinance, banning them from the campus. It's possible, but one needs the support of the community.

5) Send your kid where you want, but I don't think my tax dollars should go to pay for Johnny to go to religious institutions. It feels, in that circumstance, that the government is endorsing a particular religious viewpoint to do so.

Luxury Bentley Smashes into Pensioner's Car

notarobot jokingly says...

It's a bit of a cliche that many luxury cars don't have turn signals. Like at all.

It's also a bit of a cliche that some luxury car drivers will believe that they can escape consequences because the rules don't apply to them. They should try not to leave a trail of blood I guess.

That Bently probably would have been in better shape if the traffic island thing was behind the wheel. Maybe it is now?

oritteropo said:

I think few drivers would have the presence of mind to use their blinkers correctly while careening out of control after drunkenly hitting the wall.

I also don't think the traffic island played much part in the accident, if it hadn't been there it would've just moved the accident forward 5 metres.
