I'm not interested in the psychology of the combatants, but rather the psychology and 'spin' of those viewing it, my own meta spin (that this video makes some white people feel comfortable in their pre-judgments) included. None of us are even remotely objective, and those who claim to be (lookin' at you Ayn) least of all. We see everything through the deforming prism of our own minds. Life experiences, upbringing, family, nurture, nature, culture, media, etc. inform how we view the world, which explains how a simple glass of wine can, at the same time, be a nice treat during a meal, a life-destroying addiction or the metaphorical blood of a supernatural being.

The various rationalizations behind the 'taking of sides' is what I find interesting about this particular internet phenomena. At its heart, this video is about one person kicking the shit out of another, but the defining descriptors in the comment section vary significantly from person to person: black vs. white, old vs young, big vs. small, short vs. tall, innocent baystander vs. shit talking jerk, racist white man vs. black guy, two crazy guys, etc... . We all bring our own baggage to the vague narrative of this fight, leading us to many different conclusions and many different meanings.

I'm not trying to say anyone is right or wrong. I'm not trying to patronize. Just making the point that there are highly subjective reasons we believe the things we believe, which have little to do with rationality or logic. Being aware of this is a good thing.

one day im going to write a dual-autobiographical broadway musical. starring me and my male equivalent and our parallel adventures in abuse and insanity.

itll be a boy meets girl story. the boy and the girl meet. fall madly in love and live parallel lives of solitude and insanity. mostly on separate continents. they come from broken abusive families. they tear through life destroying romantic relationship after romantic relationship. they live in constant fear of failure so they run from every opportunity that presents itself and hermit themselves away from almost all people. they live into old age, dying alone of the diseases they gave themselves through systematic abuse, hepatitis c and emphysema respectively.

itll be beautiful. the songs will be upbeat and vibrant of course because really they really really are songs about happy people in a happy life. you just have to use sad words to describe them.

Laws are not meant to be followed blindly and bad laws must be done away with. As Aristotle wrote, "even when laws have been written down, they ought not always to remain unaltered."

Though it was said in a different context, Dr. Martin Luther King made an excellent point when he said, "one has not only a legal, but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws."

These laws do not help the American (or Canadian, or British, etc.) people. They do continual damage to society, to the economy and to individual lives. There is no better example of unjust law.

I completely agree with you 100%. A citizen's responsibility is to unquestioningly abide by all laws, state or federal.

Me, I was taught my lesson the hard way: during a 2 week stint in a state penitentiary in Devon, Connecticut, where, as I learned, it is unlawful to walk backwards after sunset. Since then I've been telling everyone "You have NO RIGHT to set your self apart from our legal system and break our laws".

See, it's easy to jump on this and go 'My god, what a complete and utter moron, she was far more beautiful than most to begin with, why did she even start doing things' etc.

BUT

Then you look at the painfully superficial world of entertainment and the ridiculous pressures they put on people to look a certain way, and the obsession they have over tiny things. And this is even more pronounced in Asian entertainment. (Skin whitening creams?)

And you can see how it's the industry she's in and the pressures of that combined with what must be a painfully low self esteem that can push someone to do things like this.

It's just horrible, a life destroyed in pursuit of something that she already had... physical beauty.

Everyone is ruining everything on earth. Tis the fate of intelligence in the universe, something like 90% of all intelligent life destroys itself before it reaches the technology to survive in space or relocate to another planet. Life is too short to hate, should get on with your own lives and dreams and enjoy it. Hate only brings sadness and pain.
