Nah, I liked the first book, second was meh, by the third I'd had enough.


The key to enjoyment of the series is using the same mentality that women use to enjoy the movies based on Jane Austin novels. In those movies, you have to care deeply for the characters mentioned and ignore the destitute poverty of the common folk of that era. Cry deeply for the wannabe noble woman that has her reputation in so much jeopardy that she might not be able to marry the guy who inherits 50k pounds - ignore the other 90% of the population that would cut their fingers off to feed their children if they didn't need those fingers to work for the nobility.

In this series, you need to think of the 'small folk' as subhuman. Their sole purpose is to get raped and killed and provide blade fodder for the worthy. Care fiercely for the rightful heir that is favored by the gods, and don't shed a tear for the father that has to watch his sons sliced up in front of him and his wife and daughter raped by that rightful heirs banner men in order to send a message.

If you can do this, the series is pure gold and will provide many hours of entertainment.

Honestly, after the 4th novel, I really don't care who wins in the end. All the characters are so blood thirsty I'm cheering for the Others at this point. I guess i'm still cheering for the Starks, but they've been through so much hell that their souls must be empty shells by now. Like torture victims that are so far gone that the best thing you can do for them is kill them.

This whole exercise on Jeopardy was a complete waste. Why does every second week of Jeopardy have to be some nonsense? I'll tell you why... so that dumb assholes can watch it periodcally.

The only way the questions could be harder for Watson would be puns, or a play on words. No matter how hard a person might find the questions, Watson uses the same method for finding answers to every one. Not sure why this is such a problem for some folks. Planes can land themselves, why cant a computer with years of research behind it be good at Jeopardy?

WTF? I didn't hear any of those students say anything about a highly elliptical orbit. What they said was that the seasons are caused by the earth being closer or further away from the sun during the seasons. Which is basically right. The northern hemisphere is closer to the sun during the summer, and is further away from the sun during the winter. F--k me, but I didn't see the Jeopardy set behind them requiring a specific phrase for the answer.

(Yes, I'm aware that the angle of incidence of sunlight is more relevant, but ffs, these are art students, according to the video's first few moments. I would not expect them to have solid mathematical understanding of astrophysical concepts.)

In case I'm not clear, to me it's irrelevant whether I caught that it uses voice or not. Whether it gets the clues as text or as voice it's about the language processing. I did not miss that part. I just don't give enough of a shit to want another week of goofy Jeopardy episodes.

I'm not clicking on any Watson propaganda videos. I clicked this one because it's a parody. I watch Jeopardy regulary and saw it Monday and Tuesday. This thing was annoying and distracting in the game. I ignore the program any time they're not actually doing questions, especially the painfully awkward contestant interactions after the first commercial break. So I missed the part about it not using voice recognition. Fine, it's text recognition. Even less impressive.

When I say the engine is Google-Like I mean it's like instant search where it whittles down and adds context in real-time as you feed data. Not that it's just a big search engine.

To me having Watson on Jeopardy is just annoying, like celebrity or kids week.

Maybe you should read up a bit more on Watson before you continue raging against "every fucking video" about it, or at least have watched one of the shows this week that actually explained how Watson works.


It's not even about voice-recognition; Watson received the clues in a text-based format, so understanding what Trebek says, or even the other players, has nothing to do with it (in fact Watson repeated the same wrong answer given by one of the human players at least once). And its database is just a small part of it; it's more about understanding and parsing language and using that to find the correct answer, not just having all of Wikipedia to search through.
