Unreal Engine 3 running on iPhone - Project Sword demo

So what your saying is it's more like a PC and less like a console. As such, there is always give and take...the give being you can buy more and, more importantly, less phone. The analogy caries on as doing graphics on that scale is still relatively expensive in terms of hardware cost, much akin to the early days of consoles and computers. Non-standardized hardware usually means wider adoption rates enabling people to reach different platforms of performance for their need. It is the reason we don't all compute on Nintendo powered hardware, PCs won the technology arms race. Moreover, being that phones aren't really designed with gaming solely in mind, they resemble PCs, more than consoles even more so. There will always be a market for "one simple hardware configuration", but I think the market is larger for people who want tiered models

Right and it makes life hell for developers. Having previously developed for Symbian and WM, and recently starting with Android, I have experience with this.

In the PC market, you can assume that there will be at least a keyboard and mouse as input. On Android, you can only assume a single-touch screen. There may be a trackball, or an optical trackball (ick), but no guarantees. The people with these devices want applications that will use the input methods on their devices. Not easy to test as a developer.

Reviews regularly request multitouch despite few Android devices supporting it, especially those of HTC. Nexus One and Desire multitouch is a nightmare to try and implement, due to the semi-broken hardware. Note that even Google Maps, the poster child for Android, isn't using multi-touch correctly on Android (i.e. if you put 2 fingers on points on the map and pinch, those 2 points aren't in the same place at the end, and you can't pinch and drag at the same time either).

I haven't tried iPhone development, perhaps with the new resolution and hardware specs, it's starting to suffer from the same issues. Selecting the target market for Android is certainly difficult though unless you target the lowest common denominator, which will rarely have a "wow" factor.

If our concept of self is purely biological, we do not make decisions. Skipping a few logical and philosophical points, the path of this video leads to the conclusion that we have no agency. That our thoughts are an illusion. That we are biological robots, and that all of our actions have been determined since the beginning of time. Determinism, in other words. And I hate determinism. I refuse to believe that my human experience is a sham. That I am not me, that my life is an illusion, and that I do not determine my destiny. Ick. Maybe I'm deluding myself. I don't care. I agree with the video: There is nothing wrong with that. I choose to be happy and to find something in life beyond the meaning it is given by death. I think that I win no matter what happens.
But if you agree with this video and you're a determinist, why would you blame me for taking this position? It isn't as if I had any choice in the matter.

Interesting how people take different points from videos, eh? I've actually saved this on my desktop and watch about once a month. For me, it is oddly hopeful. The message I get from it is to make your life count. Don't passively watch time tick away, but LIVE.

I don't understand how you got determinism from the video, but perhaps that is just because I perceived it differently than you. No matter what your belief, death is change where you can't interact with the world that you are currently in (or at least there haven't been any proven cases of spirits, etc interacting with our world. Yes, I know that it an assumption, but I think that we can agree that there isn't any reproducible evidence to the contrary.) So whatever you believe in, you will not be able to interact with this world anymore. So make this life count. Dare to dream and dare to chase that dream.

That's the message or, perhaps more appropriately, the reminder that I take from this video.

The artistic side of me appreciates this. You couldn't call it pessimistic, exactly. It's horribly dark, and the creator uses an ad nauseum argument to wonderful effect. We are indeed so sick of the repetition of this extremely dark message that the end is all the more poignant. We are happy to take his side. Overall, a very effective piece.

However, one can appreciate art even if it is a lie. Even if it is amoral (or even immoral). I'm appalled by the implications of such a definite, inflexible doctrine, delivered in such a self-assured way. I think that the concept of death as an end to the self is a lie. That is why I'm disturbed by the extreme nihilism in this video; The type of nihilism that often leads to moral relativism. If our concept of self is purely biological, we do not make decisions. Skipping a few logical and philosophical points, the path of this video leads to the conclusion that we have no agency. That our thoughts are an illusion. Robotic Smartphone Screen Test

^ I think the Droid, Eris, and Nexus all use capacitive touch, though an older version than the iPhone being tested.

If that Droid is a capacitive touch screen, then it's quite possibly the worst capacitive touch screen I've ever seen tested.
Ick.

Yea, the others are definitely better. The specs say the Droid is capacitive, so that's what I'm going by.

I have a Droid, but the screen really isn't terrible. I can't touch the screen lightly enough that it doesn't register, so sensitivity isn't ever an issue. The only problems I come across with accuracy are either with very small links (zoomed out on web pages) or when using the vertical keyboard (might miss the key 1 or 2 times out of 10).

Those accuracy issues are compensated by the physical keyboard and pinch-zooming in the browser (Dolphin). I also have 2.1 (cyanogen + 1Ghz kernal) on there so speech-to-text is available as well.

I certainly wouldn't complain if the screen were more accurate, but it isn't as much of a problem as the robotic test would seem to indicate. Besides, I figured my Droid would be obsolete in under a year anyway. =)

Ick, stay away from resistive touch screens. Old tech.

It's all about capacitive touch screens now. Like the iphone/ipod touch. Much better response.

Other than that, the French make a good mp4 player, so I'm certain that this Archos tablet will be good quality.

Ergh, New Zealand /facepalm.
I've been living overseas for about 4 years now and hearing that accent it's jarring. Do I really sound like that? ick.
A community warden is a guy with about the authority of a security guard, but employed by the local Maori tribe (iwi) to keep things on the streets amicable and hopefully keep kids from doing things that are going to end the up in court. It's a bit odd, but also quite a nice system.
The guy looked like a bogan racer piece of poop, and I'd be reluctant to think he wasn't to blame.

That is your OPINION about religion. But real Religion..

And just like that, you invalidated your entire argument before you started. Your opinion is every bit as prone to flaws as ponceleon's are, except of course, that ponceleon has history and reality on his side. Time and again, religion is essential in convincing otherwise normal people about the most absurd nonsense. Do you really mean to tell me that this mans obviously confused view of sexuality is purely a result of his fallibility, and that he merely "abuses religion" to suit his own agenda? puhlease.

What separates "real" religion from "fake" religion? clearly religious people do not agree, and that really says it all, whether you are of the Fred Phelps type or the mother Theresa type, you all have 2 things in common:
1.No evidence in general that your religion is true, and
2.No evidence that your particular take on a particular religion is more "real" than any other take.

And dude, what the fuck is up with this "climategate" nonsense, I mean , seriously, what the fuck? Look, the science is in: Global warming is happening, it is man-made, and its time we deal with it. To think otherwise at this point is to suggest a worldwide conspiracy so vast, so tightly knit and so fantastically absurd that David Icke, who believes the world is run by reptiles in disguise, would be proud.
