"Building 7" Explained

Skeeve says...

A house fire can reach 1500 degrees in 3 1/2 minutes but an office fire can't reach the 1000 degrees necessary to bring steel to 50% of it's strength? Bullshit.
>> ^marinara:

I really doubt that a failure of a steel beam, which supports the floor (and nothing else), could take down an entire building.
Otherwise the facts in this video are generally correct, but misleading. (because office fires don't burn over 1000 degrees)

I think the better solution though is to stick with the normal way this is done -- it's baked into your local taxes, and everyone who needs a house fire put out, gets it.

The problem with that solution in this particular case is, if I'm not mistaken, the fire department was located in the city and the homes are located outside the city. These people don't pay city taxes. They were given an option to pay a fee to get service from the city FD.

The real solution here, is these people need their own fire department.

Fire Dept. Lets House Burn After Man Neglects To Pay Fee

robdot says...

im a 30 year pro firefighter. no one wants to pay for fire protection until theres a fire, same with ambulances. you cant bill people after the fact. how the hell you gonna bill someone who just had a house fire 5000.00????? why would they pay? 75 bucks for fire protection is almost nothing. the townships can longer afford to provide many of these services. the city did them a big favor by offering this protection. there are many people across the country who can get into their city limits, but dont want to pay city taxes. then, theres a fire. or medical emergency, and guess what? they burn. happens all the time. in my city there are houses right beside each other and some are in and some are not. by choice. we have maps to show us the corp line. and the addresses of those not in the city limits. i cant take my dept out of service to help you, and leave the citizens who do pay unprotected. or use up their resources. if you want depts to protect more people, you must pay up front for more vehicles, equipment, personnel , training, etc. extremely self evident.

Goofus should've been allowed to be billed later...even 5 grand would be less than losing the house.

I actually agree with this. They should have still offered to put the fire out, and charge him some sort of (larger than $75) fee.

Having this guy keep his house and get handed a $5K bill would be better than what happened, but I dunno why we should create this kind of foolishness in the first place.

How much would it have raised taxes for them to simply extend coverage to everyone, like a normal county? A paltry 13 cents per household in property taxes.

I love how they're laughing and talking about it before they bother to actually put out the house fire. I understand wanting to discuss what just happened and all, but I would think their priorities would dictate the burning domicile be addressed first.

MSNBC Host: "Socialist" is Becoming Code Word For The N-Word

How to waste a dollar: let the government double-tax it and piss away the money. Sorry, I cannot justify giving hard earned income to the biggest den of theives and criminals in this country (that would be Congress, by the way). These people have no idea how to effectively spend money other than propagating their existance.

As far as taxes, I repeatedly hear "Oh, yeah, who maintains the roads you drive on", "Who are you gonna call when your house is on fire"... I can tell you this, if road service is any indication, I might as well call on my dead grandmother to put out a house fire. At least she would have some conviction.

And thank you for convincing everyone they have a "right" to everything except responsibility.

I would like to see some tort reform as part of any "improvements" in healthcare. That asshat Bush talked about it, but never did a damn thing (surprise!!!). Limit what the parasites can possibly get and that would ripple though the system with regard to liability coverage and CYA medical procedures.

MSNBC Host Attacks Peter Schiff on The Ed Show - 8/6/09

The free market argument is bullshit , If you leve things to business you end up with individuals manopalizing things and exploiting things. As far as I understand the expenses with current health service are because of capitalism and the insurance companies working out ways to derive more money from people ,

capitalism is only concerned about money it is not concerned about people and fairness.

getting ill is like a house fire you don't expect it often its not predictable you can never tell if its only a small thing or if its a huge thing, now as everyone has a body surly it makes sence for everyone by dufult to have coverage Tax makes more sence for this kind of thing, If you belive the goverment is waist full with money then you need to work on the governments ways of spending mony and whats going wrong in the goverment , its not that the idesa of tax funded helth car is wrong. If you make it private its out of the peoples controle and the system is motivated to cheet people out of mony its unfixable.

He should, though, really consider having a museum take care of it if only to preserve it. I'd hate to see that go up in a freak house fire after so much work has been done.
