Viral How Much Did Your Divorce Cost

StukaFox says...

I don't agree with you on this one, Bob.

My wife and I have been together since 1995. In that time, we've both dealt with issues in our lives that might have lead to the deaths of either one of us had we not been together. We've been through hell and kept each other on our feet when we felt like we couldn't walk another step. We've been there for each other in the absolute worst moments of our lives.

On the other side, my favorite memories always include her: the first time we saw the Eiffel Tower together; hiking together in Henry Coe State Park; nights in Mendocino and dinners at Brouwer's. A thousand thousand little things where she's brought happiness into my life. How much joy I experience just holding her hand!

Men lose everything? Have someone look at you when you feel like absolute human shit -- like you're the tiniest speck of worthlessness in the universe -- and say "I love you." Someone who doesn't just rescue you from yourself, but lifts you up into the pure light of happiness and joy, is the absolute affirmation of goodness in the human heart.

I say this with all honesty, with no malice and no sense of superiority, just one human being to another: if something happened to you that makes you feel the way you do, if someone hurt you that bad, then I wish it were within my power to lift that from your heart and soul. No one ever deserves to have love turned to hate, least of all you.

Saved by my 13-year-old Son | Saving Lives At Sea

newtboy says...

Lol.
It was his way of feeding my addiction and saving me money. I was drinking 1-3 quadruple espressos a day back then. I even tried to make one on the hike out of the only coffee they had....Folgers. ugh. Disgusting sludge.

OMG! An espresso machine?!

Was that his way of telling you to hurry up next time?

Sheesh!

Saved by my 13-year-old Son | Saving Lives At Sea

Reminds me of hiking the Milford track in 89. Cold and wet, and my cancer ridden dad started having heart problems, passing out 1/3 of the way up the highest pass, 3700ft. My older much bigger brother saw he was having trouble, so he took off leaving me to deal with him. I had to carry him and both our packs on my back up to the lunch shack at the pass where he finally rested enough to make it down slowly (we almost missed the last boat across the sound). I weighed about 140, he was well over 200 and each pack was 30-40 lbs. He bought me an espresso machine as a reward. I hope he kicked my brother's ass privately too, but I'm not sure.
Good times....good times.

Upvote for the pickup truck!

Back country skiing in Colorado when I was growing up, down the hill, through the woods to a road, hitchhike back near the top, hike the last couple hundred meters, rinse, repeat.
Nine times out of 10 it was a pickup truck with snow in the back that was picking you up.

This was right before snowboarding was really a thing.

Pissed Physicist says "Follow the Science" is nonsense

Eh, what do you want? *wipes nose with back of hand*
She's a woman. *hikes pants back to up to waist level*

Isn't she saying we should actually follow the science to achieve desired results and ignore the uninformed opinions that twist it?

electric bill has soared after the winter storm in texas

Nexxus says...

We have the choice to go with whichever provider we choose. Most people opt to go with a fixed rate for 6-12-24 months or whatever, and it costs a little more. Then there are people that go with a variable rate plan to save money, and in this case, the rate went up and they got caught. However, I do think there should be safeguards against drastic rate hikes such as this.

FORMULA OFFROAD ICELAND, AKUREYRI 2020 Round 2

newtboy says...

Actually, it's an interesting but inefficient way to fund their rescue services that save stupid Americans who go hiking where they don't belong and get stuck.

For years, they couldn't get on SKYTV, the European ESPN. They would film events and send them to SKYTV, never getting a reply. An organizer eventually called to find out why, and SKYTV told them they weren't interested in RC cars....Only to fall out of their seats when it was explained those are full size cars with drivers. At least that's what our host told me when we were in Iceland to see it live.

An amusing, if inefficient way to re-distribute top soil.

Inside Nancy Pelosi’s District:

vil says...

And the proposed republican solution to the problem is?

How could all of the country look like this when half the hobos have already hitch-hiked to Nancy Pelosis district (according to the video)? That kind of alleviates the problem elsewhere. Are the republicans going to spread them out more evenly? Is that the plan? Will the problem be solved by helping these people less, so they die quicker? Is that the plan? Is there a right wing conservative republican plan on what exactly should happen to sick stupid dirty homeless people who dont give a flying f*** about anything? Will they be gone like magic by April?

Maybe letting them wash is a good start?

Dont tell me republicans are going to help these people more? What would Ayn Rand think?

The Wicked Feline Murder Floof, a Yule Cat Story

newtboy says...

When we visited Iceland, my wife and I hiked all over Dimmuborgir, the home of the Yule lads. It was a maze of caves and canyons with pathways throughout, some more obvious than others. Various placards had information about them and their parents, but I don't recall anything about their cat.

How these penny-pinchers retired in their 30s

DanHas says...

Long time lurker, first time commenter. I just wanted to say newtboy is spot on with my experiences in Humboldt County.

My Wife went to College at Humboldt State and we spent a week there back in May. We rented an Airbnb in Trinidad and it was incredible. Every day we were out on the beach or hiking through the towering redwoods. Not to mention eating insanely fresh food!

Everything was incredibly clean and fresh, from the air and oceans to the forests and rivers.
