I already know the pornography industry preys on young women with esteem and or money issues who often don't consider the life long ramifications. Khalifa, however, knew she was asking for extra trouble by wearing a hijab in a porno, and should have known religious zealots wouldn't be amused. I'm not excusing those who threatened her, just pointing out that she should have known portraying a devout Muslim woman in that way is almost as intentionally provocative as doing pornography in black face. She didn't say "no" because she didn't want to end her career, not because she was forced or coerced. She knew it wasn't smart before she did it.

I'm glad she at least says she accepts 100% of the responsibility, as she said, it was totally her choice. Sadly, the rest of what she said was assigning the responsibility to others and playing dumb. What 21 year old thinks making professional pornography is going to stay secret, especially the kind she made? She now wants to force actors (or maybe just actresses) to have any contract approved by a lawyer before signing, with a 3 day cooling off period? Good luck. If they only make $1000 per shoot, how are they supposed to pay an attorney $1000 to review their contracts?

They're running on some very simplistic logic.

They have the maths as to how they can claim that everyone can fit into a landmass the size of texas, and it holds out if every single house was butt up against each other and there were no roads, parks, transport etc.

So... yeah, you could fit everyone into a space that big.

BUT, the threat of overpopulation is NOT the issue of there being enough space for houses, it's the amount of waste, polution and resources that number of people use.

Pushing out trite figures like being able to fit into Texas will WORK... people will go 'Gee, look at all the rest of the world that's vacant, what are we worried about... COOOONSSSUUUUUME!' It's completely ignoring the real problem with having that many people... it's not about places to Live, it's about keeping that many people alive.

Ooooh, we're talking a bunch of anti abortionists here... Basically they're all against abortion and population control and all for popping out babies all over the place. They're trying to suggest that the belief in overpopulation is causing mass, brutal and forceful removal of human rights... blah blah blah.

They have a serious chip on their shoulder about abortion, and that's where all of this stems from. Their thinking is that if people don't believe there's any issue with the population of the world, then somehow that'll mean that everyone will say that abortions should be gotten rid of too.

I can hardly talk on the population control front. I just had my fourth and last child (snipped now), so myself and my wife have doubled our footprint. Which is kinda, well... wrong I guess. Although I can justify it somewhat saying that we're raising them in a very eco conscious way. And hopefully that by having them and others like them be more proactive on the front of installing solar power on every home possible, reusing water, having raintanks, having a compost, not being wasteful etc. etc. Well, maybe that'll make more of a positive impact... but really I'm clutching at straws.

The thing is : In this case it doesnt matter if Geert Wilders eats babies for breakfast, he is being charged for making a movie that is strictly critical towards ISLAM. Period. It doesnt matter if you, me or Condell agrees or sympathizes with whatever Geert Wilders say, In this matter, he is being charged for essentially blasphemy, if anything..

I know very little about Mr. Wilders, and he might be the biggest asshole on the planet, Judging from the HardTalk interview, I certainly disagree with him on many points, For instance, he wants To use "administrative detention" to round up people who are hostile to his "Values", which essentially means that he is hostile to his own values and should be in detention himself..

The point is that in any case, its all OPINIONS, just like "Allah Ackbar, All infidels are dirt" is an opinion. Both may be good or bad or disgusting, depending on who hears them, but they shouldnt be illegal.

If a Muslim makes a movie with quotes from the Torah, and images of children being slaughtered by IDF's bombs, Many will probably find it offensive, perhaps inaccurate, but unless it ends with "Kill all the Jews", it is still entirely within our Free Speech rights. In America, it would be free speech no matter what, but most of Europe has "Hate Speech" laws, under which threats of violence or death against groups or individuals is illegal, and that brings us to the heart of the issue:

No. (Well, not to my knowledge, and not in "Fitna", which is what he is charged for)

This is "devolving" into the question I posed earlier, and for that which I had promised not to hijack this thread. Namely, what do the community and the administrators see as valuable contributions, and how should particular contributions be awarded?

The awards are the moderator powers - voting, deading (and fixing), saving, promoting, [channel]ing (heh), discarding, banning, etc. Have I missed something - do you intend to offer benefits via currency other than the moderator powers? A couple of options have been suggested (extra queue slots, for instance).

The contributions have been discussed ad nauseum - original posts are fuck all, fixing deads is easy or hard, talk posts are good or great, etc.

I humbly submit that unless this is tackled comprehensively, you are in effect creating another ad hoc solution which will be loved by some, hated by others, and accepted by most. (where's choggie when I need him?)

So - start with your benefits, and rank them in order of primacy. Then list the contributions in similar order. And start assigning. Any simple or complex economic system based around that is fine, as long as it incorporates the entirety of what VS is about.

Maybe this all seems painfully obvious, but the obvious needs pointing out sometimes.
