I do not want kids because of the liability. Blue shirt could of been killed, he missed that by inches. Kids are too stupid, all I would do is worry.

And yet the vast majority of kids in first world countries - even the badly brought up ones - survive to adulthood. It easy to look at stuff like this and say 'he could easily have been killed' but in reality, it's pretty unlikely. As a parent it would be for you to teach them how to deal with the world. The worst thing you could do is insulate the kid from all danger because then they don't understand that some things really can be dangerous, and they go and do something like this. I would never have gotten on that roundabout because something in the back of my mind would have said 'hang on a minute...'. And that's what parenting is.

Don't get me wrong, the thought of being a parent terrifies me, but I'd like to think any kid of mine would be far too busy in front of a computer to be out doing stupid stuff like this...

Many tests are normalized, including the college admissions test here in the US (the SATs). The scores only have meaning relative to each other.

Sometimes the tests have to be re-normalized because the population scores differently. The SATs, for example, had to be re-normed in the 80s or 90s to keep the average at 1000, because the population was scoring lower than previous generations.

Sorry but Canadians do NOT score lower than Americans.
1. Canadian children scored Full Scale IQ= 103.34, Verbal= 101.4, Performance = 104.96 on the (American) WISC-III. Source: Wechsler, D. (1996), Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Third Edition, Canadian Supplement. (Communicated by Dr. D. Saklofske).
(Since the tests are standardized American tests the average American score is of course 100)

Are IQ tests standardised to FORCE the average to 100? That seems really unlikely to me. Because if we were getting thicker, we'd have an average of 90 IQ, then we'd go "Hang on a minute, add 10 to that to put the average to 100 again." Then we'd have an average of 100, and be less intelligent than a guy 10 years ago with 100IQ.
Of course IQ is an arbitrary scale invented by humans, but that scale can't MOVE surely, otherwise it puts all figures into dissaray, they mean nothing. It's like saying "Ok, earth temperatures have gone up by 2 degrees celsius. So we're adjusting the scale downwards by 2 degrees. Temperature restored guys!"

I'll reply to myself. Apparently they are regularly normalised to 100. What a rediculous system. The numbers mean absolutely nothing, then?

Some guy I don't know on some show I've never seen making fun of somebody else I don't know, yet it's still funny...

British people are like that. That's why "Would I lie to you" "QI" and all the other "quiz" shows are so freaking hilarious.

God damn but that's what i've been trying to say about the SIMS for years and he's done a better job in 30 seconds than i've done in 2 hour arguments about the game.

Hang on a minute, he's also just expressed my entire philosophy about the desperate empty shell of a future our civilisation promises us.

Shit yahtzee, i could form a religion over this. Excellent job.

Heard any good jokes lately? (Possibly NSFW) (Comedy Talk Post)

Since KP quoted me in the intro, I guess I'll have to share one more;

I will never call one of those sex lines again. I've always been curious about what goes on, so I called one the other night. A sexy girl answered the phone. She says "you ready to party?" I said, "Oh, yeah." She says, "get your dick out, got your dick out?" I said, "Oh, yeah baby," She says, "are you strokin' it good?" I said, "like crazy, what's next?" She says, "hang on a minute, your Mom wants to talk to you."

Derrick Jensen - Modern Day Slavery

MINK says...

kraz is kind of right, it's human nature, but we change nature a lot. people used to eat dirt and obey the king, now we are about 2 steps away from that and moving in the right direction.
it's also human nature to say "hang on a minute, wtf, i work harder than my boss"
i don't think he is advocating a land freeforall, that's a cheap shot. he is saying that if we all owned our own land and "agreed" in a slightly different way, there would be less people making money out of other people's hard work and misery.

hunter gatherer societies spend only 4 hours a day working. sure it's nice to have electricity, but for an extra 6 hours a day of work? don't you find it hard to find the time to USE the benefits of modern society?

just a thought.
