I voted 'no', mostly because as a English-is-not-my-first-language I have enough problems with channels that exist already. I kind of get what might be 'obscure', to me 'quirky' sounds like 'perky obscure' , and with either one, I am not crystal clear. Not to mentions channels like 'grindhouse', 'debunked'.. not that I am likely to sift anything to go on to those channels anyway.

I just think it would be nice if it was crystal clear what goes to a specific channel. Maybe because I am also a blonde, I always have problems with my channel assignments. Luckily most people are helpful abd NICE and they add correct channels to my submissions, or change them to proper channels. All I am asking is that you are nice about it (and like I said, most people are).

But then, you should be nice about everything else too. I do not like rude comments abouut my channels, tags or titles. If you are rude, I am most likely to ignore you. This might be 'just online' , but rude comments are disrespectful and people should just try to be civil. But hey, I try not to read any comments because I know things can get pretty ugly in some fronts..

Anyway! Sorry shuac about not voting for your channel. I just would love to see something a bit easier to define. I hope you have several other choices in mind, I had plenty when I was making mine.

Tarantino would answer "so what?" Not because he is a dick, but because these effects/scenes weren't borrowed by accident. He has been open from the begining about the Kill Bill series copying vintage martial arts films. Pointing out the similarities is like pointing at Robert Rodriguezes "Grindhouse" and saying that he ripped off cult grindhouse films.

Inception and Memento are both really good films (I think Inception is a Great film), but largely because they are great ideas, well delivered. His Batman stuff is fine, but it didn't rock my world. Really, it seems pretty formulaic to me.
I think Tarantino's work is so distinctive and ambitious, that he sits above all others. Also, if you go through his films (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, the two Kill Bills (so far, a third has been announced), Grindhouse and then Inglourious Basterds), it's hard to pick a weak spot apart from Grindhouse which was a disaster and an excuse to film the best car chase in modern history. But even that was ambitious if not well executed.
I'm tempted to put Danny Boyle up there, but almost exclusively for Trainspotting which is my favourite film of all time, and Sunshine which I thought was brilliant.
Perhaps Tarantino could be given the nod for best writer/director in the modern era?


Good call on Danny Boyle. I haven't see Sunshine, but 28 Days Later is one of my favourites of all time, Shallow Grave was a great debut and Slumdog Millionaire was beautiful. But yeah, Tarantino, he's inimitable
