Santa Esmeralda - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood
There's a super extended version on their Greatest Hits CD that has some violin added. Check it out.
Fuel - Shimmer (Acoustic, Live)
They did greatest hits in Dec '05. Rarely a good sign.

.... looks like they essentially broke up in all but name, or 50% turnover, if you will.

Arvana's Guide to Successful Sifting (Sift Talk Post)
I agree with you, Mr Aries. I wasn't advocating sifting vapid empty submissions based entirely on popularity, although I can see how you could interpret what I said that way. I think if you look at my submissions that I aim for a balance of both interesting / funny / thought-provoking AND universal appeal — and those tend to be the videos that do well here.
In fact, I would go so far as to say that most popularity-based sifts that have no substance won't get very far on this site. This is a much more discerning crowd that the video hosts, which is part of what makes the site so great.
I guess it comes down to the old question of whether to be a starving artist who's a purist, or a successful one who caters at least somewhat to the market. I can respect the former, but there are still lots of greats who were the latter — and obviously my post was aimed at sifters with that mindset.
Rudy Giuliani's Four Horsemen
"this video looks like it had some parts edited out (michael Rubin and his greatest hits in the bush administration). did we miss something?"
I believe it is just self editing to clean up/shorten the video. The source for the video on youtube are the people that created the video so any edits have been done by themselves.
Rudy Giuliani's Four Horsemen
this is disturbing. A real tragedy that the MSM hasn't given this an ounce of attention. Podhoretz and Pipes sound like such extremists, spewing their opinionated shit with nothing to back it up.

The Banana Splits! Tra La La...
Liz Phair did a version for the Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits CD. It also had The Ramones doing "Spiderman," Juliana Hatfield doing "Josie and the Pussycats," and the Violent Femmes doing "Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah."

My apologies, I rarely log into videosift
You could rarely go wrong with the Meters; I picked up their Funkify Your Life: The Meters Anthology before a road trip and was groovin' across statelines. I don't really know if I would really consider Booker T & the MGs "funk" but I tend to group them with the Meters. The Very Best of Booker T. & the MG's will get you through a long day... Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration falls into the same cat., not exactly funk but some great music!
I guess the funkiest thing I'd listen to recently was Sly and the Family Stone's Greatest Hits and There's a Riot Goin' On. Hits brings up some pop and party, while Riot is more dirty. Any which way, you can't go wrong with any of that stuff. Happy listening!

The song at the beginning (and at the end) is the Meters' "Handclapping Song" from the album Struttin'.
thanks for the song id! Any other good funk reccomendations?
Vid sift podcast (Sift Talk Post)
Sort of like DiggNation..greatest hits of the week. Makes total sense. Just a podcast, or vidcast, showing the vids in question?
Take It Easy - The Eagles - 1973
Thanks for the post liscat. I remember listening to my Eagles Greatest Hits cassette and this was the first track. Definitely a guilty pleasure for me - some co-workers at the time gave me some grief for this and my love of The Pixies didn't save my credibility
YES - Wondrous Stories
would rather go deaf at after years of making Yes music, than The Who's greatest hits, night after night....poor Mr. Pete and John...these cats are part of the league of crafty musicianship..saw em in 83' or 4 with 90125, ...and Neil Young and the Fabulous Pink-!
