Call For Global Moratorium On Killer Robots

chingalera says...

Indeed, and any number of scenarios may play out that could render a future variant of a "terminator" paradigm far from unimaginable. The tech you see in a motion picture today (should you care to use the most obvious rule-of-thumb) has been tried and tested, implemented and reviewed...But we won't see the meat of it until the military or other similar proprietary goons have declared it "unclassified."

Uhhhh, fer instance: Nanobots removing plaque from arteries through a technician's commands??-A SOLID 30 years ago this was already being done. Is the same technology available to grunts, cunts, or the monetarily impaired??-HELLO?!!

Sounds silly but only because our only real point of reference that we're used to is sci-fi.

Despite sounding ridiculous (and making RT briefly sound like ONN) this stuff has to be considered sooner rather than later as the technology is pretty much there now.

Wealth Inequality in America

That is truly excellent.

I know you don't like to be considered a Fox goon, but I bet if you show them this they'll offer you a job that pays more than mine.

@dag "we tax the rich a lot in Australia and everything is better over here". Ok. What if Australia would be better off if you didn't tax the rich so much? Then you'd be just proposing we do what's not helping Australia to help America, all the while overlooking whatever is actually working in Australia.

OREO - Whisper Fight

noims says...

Reminds me of a favourite Goon Show moment.

Badly paraphrased:
Eccles, shouting, banging on the door: "Help! Help!"
Min, inside: "Would you be quiet, there are people trying to sleep in here."
Eccels: "Sorry." (whispering) "help. help"

Lance Armstrong Remix - I'm A Creep

This guy is the worst kind of scum. Bullied, lied and cheated all his life. He looked his loved ones in the eyes and lied, he lied about other people to try and ruin their reputation, he even had goons threaten one of his team mate's wives with a beating.

I look forward to seeing him fiscally bankrupt to match being morally bankrupt.

Ron Paul's Maine delegates protest RNC

legacy0100 says...

You know, dictators like Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein regularly hired goons to go on rallies and protests against their rivals so that when western journalists come all you hear is 'praise Gaddafi! shame on the rebels! ahyayayayay!'

Just saying.

Police Fire On Men Women and Children w/ Non Lethal Rounds

drattus says...

The idea that they, and many others, have it worse I wouldn't argue for a second. But rather than say that it doesn't apply to us I'd think that we're talking more matters of degree. We've got a larger percentage of our people under direct control of the criminal justice system than any other nation so the term police does seem accurate in that sense. They've got goons that will kill you instead of lock you up. Sure, they get locked up too, but I'm not sure the police as such are their problem so much as the death squads and such are. Terrorist state for them perhaps? Something else in other cases. But for us, sure, police.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incarceration_in_the_United_States

In 2009 some 3.1% of adults were under correctional supervision, in custody, parole or probation. In "2008 more than 1 in 100 adults in the United States were in prison or jail". This has kinda been a pet project of mine since I was a kid, there's no nation out there with more of their people under police supervision. I don't disrespect others at all. I just tend to call it what it is. Perhaps the term police state isn't the right one for them, rather than it being the wrong one for us.

We're the most imprisoned nation in the world, both per capita and in raw terms and that's been a fact since the Clinton administration. If the more than a decade long title holder for most imprisoned nation in the world isn't a police state, then exactly what is it?

I agree that the US has a stupidly high imprisonment rate, mostly due to your insane and useless "war on drugs", but at least there is a process. The laws behind it may be retarded, but as a general rule, you aren't living in fear of being snatched off the street by uniformed goons. Hyperbole doesn't really help anyone, and frankly, calling the US a police state is trivialising the struggles of those who live in real oppression (i.e. North Korea, sharia law, etc).

That's not to say you shouldn't complain about injustice in your country, simply that you should call it what it is.

How to Shut Down a Rent-a-Black pt 1

longde says...

It served its purpose: uncovering the lies and innuendos Joe Oliver was spreading on "better" interviews he had been having all over the MSM.

From this we know that this guy:

-Could not be a character witness, and barely even knew Zimmerman
-Had no factual basis for his advocacy of Zimmerman's innocence/guilt
-Hadn't seen the man in at least a month, invalidating Joe Oliver's assertions of Zimmerman's injuries
-Stripping down his nonsensical assertions about the use of "coon" and "goon"

All in all, a good hour's work>> ^kir_mokum:

that was a terrible interview.

TYT-pratt defends zimmerman and cenk loses it

Porksandwich says...

@enoch

I've been having this back and forth with a guy on another forum. He keeps insisting that because Zimmerman was hurt, he was within his rights to shoot Trayvon under SYG. And I keep trying to point out to him that SYG does not say that, but it falls on deaf ears.

And then it comes to witness testimony being the gospel the witness identified as "John" backs up Zimmerman. But the girlfriend of Trayvon who was on the phone with him is also a witness, but somehow her testimony is no good because she's his girlfriend, or underage, or is "speculation" and if she were really a witness the police would have talked to her, etc, etc.

I mean strictly from how events have been reported. We have Zimmerman's own words, phone call, and actions to judge him by. And with Trayvon all we know is that he's dead, was wearing a hoodie, and was a black teen going to the store and back. Yet somehow Trayvon was doing something wrong because Zimmerman identified him as suspicious. Even though there is AT LEAST one black resident in that neighborhood and being black in the neighborhood should not = auto-suspicion even if it's predominately white.

Zimmerman kept chasing and Trayvon should be covered under the law because of it, we KNOW Zimmerman followed him. He wouldn't have "lost" him if Trayvon hadn't tried to actively avoid him by running away. Running away from a creep is not a crime, following a kid is questionable behavior. More so after he was told not to, and the fact that he's neighborhood watch "leader" and should have known better.

The whole thing smacks of Zimmerman having a chip on his shoulder that he isn't "catching the bad guys" and him acting in accordance with that goal...even if it means forcing an encounter. Perhaps he didn't mean to kill Trayvon, or isn't a racist. But I believe he wanted an encounter to happen so at least one of these "punks/goons/coons" were caught. And then he claimed self defense, when he forced the thing upon an individual who was trying to get away from him. It's just compounded by the fact that Trayvon wasn't of a similar age, weight, and build to Zimmerman. He simply did not have the life experience to temper the encounter against, and Zimmerman should have not pushed it. In a role reversal, I'd have no problem with Zimmerman shooting a teenager who was pursuing him after he ran.....but that's not what happened. He forced it upon Trayvon, and got his ass handed to him and shot out of fear. Which does not excuse his actions leading up to the event, he was not immune under self defense laws until he met criteria.
