Employee at Publix Follows Kids Around the Store

shang says...

Well never had any lawsuits, but of course people understand that loss prevention will follow you around an upscale store. Did it in Macy's in New York for 10 years. People whined and were asked to leave if they didn't like the policy. And if people came in with baggy clothes or pants sagging, they were also asked to leave the store. Macy's wasn't a public park to goof off in. And on the door they reserve the right to refuse service to any one on any reason.

but that's upscale "Snooty" stores for ya, but hey, it paid damn well.

and I wore a suit, but we did have plain clothes that did work in same department, but the suit was to put public pressure as everyone knew what I was up to when I followed a customer. And if someone refused to empty a pocket, a cop was available to check them and if they were clear they were free to go.

IT was a bit gestapo I admit, but that's how it works in large cities, and there has been no lawsuits and won't be, cause the company has the right to run their business any way they wish. If customers quit buying the stuff in mass then of course they'd change or whatnot, but customers won't, plus Macy's and many upscale stores in New York pride them self on being assholes so they can sell to a specific demographic, rich/celebs/etc. that demographic won't be caught dead in a crappy store like Walmart for most part.

I too worked as a plain clothes security officer (loss prevention) in a major department store, and I can't fathom that a professional loss prevention department worth a shit would make a stop solely based on a "funky bulge". I could only assume bad stops and lawsuits would be a constant issue for any department operating that way. Also I seriously doubt that dude was in ln loss prevention dressed like that. If you're trying to catch people stealing you don't wear clothes that make you stand out like a sore thumb. I'm guessing he was just a store employee. Most likely management.

Also ive had a few African American roommates and friends and it was very apparent that store owners and or employees would watch them based on the color of their skin. It NEVER happened to me with my white friends ONLY with my black friends, and it happened quite a bit.

The Coolest Police Woman in Australia

artician says...

That is cool. I wish "authority" figures the world over were more like this. If cop from the US saw this he'd think: "this irresponsible idiot would immediately be to blame if a criminal suddenly crept into the area and killed a bunch of people while they were goofing off", while completely ignoring that people who go on public killing sprees are quite possibly revolting against overbearing police states.

Sure looks like a self link. And the tags feel like spamming. Comics? Sexuality? This is just goofing around.

Mr/Mrs Salmab, I am going to complete the banination based on Chic's findings and those tags. If you truly wish to be part of the Sift, I am sure you can get the ban lifted with a proper amount of "I'm sorry I'll never do it again."

How do people this (presumably) stupid afford such things?

It is their parents money more than likely. Some well off parents prefer to not raise their kids than to put the time into it. Likewise they give them lots of money to make up for lack of being a good parent.

I am sure we can come up with some other scenarios as to why these fly guys have paper to burn. I was laughing at the guy trying to take out his big wads of one dolla billz, and his pants falling down even more because of the molestation trying to get that wallet out. Take a little of that wad a get a belt son. Your style makes you look like a goof ball.

US Soldier Picks up a Wired IED

Fletch says...

Stupid. "It's an artillery shell." Are you kidding me? I can't believe these guys haven't had training on recognizing IEDs. Even dumb ol' sillyvilian me knew IEDs were often made with shell casings. Just a stupid brainfart that could have killed him and anybody close by. He done goofed, and he should have got his ass chewed. Maybe they don't get Discovery Channel there, or he hasn't seen "The Hurt Locker" yet.

"Mitt Romney, A Hero In My Mind"-the quotes aren't ironic

RFlagg says...

I thought I recognized the crazy old goof... I liked the start how he talks of wars and rumors of wars as they are bad things, but then wants to vote for the party responsible getting us into these wars and refuses to cut what is above and beyond the worlds largest military budget and instead wants to sacrifice helping the sick and the working poor Jesus said to help... or perhaps that is why they vote for them, to make the process go faster, even though God said he had an appointed time... I can see it now, they bring about the end of the world conditions by 2025, and wonder where the apocalypse is, and then when they get to heaven they go, "...but God, there were wars and rumors of wars and killed millions of innocent women and children. We put the mark of the beast on everyone, and everyone needed a chip to buy stuff. We let the planet ecology fall apart. Why didn't you come back as you said you would?" Then god says to them "I said APPOINTED time, that was going to be the year 502080, just because you made the conditions happen sooner doesn't mean I was going to come back sooner." I honestly heard somebody once say after Obama won "Well maybe this means god is coming back sooner..."

President Obama Slow Jams the News

dystopianfuturetoday says...

I know it's probably more fun to paint Obama as a super villain than to make an attempt to understand this issue on a deeper level, but Obama didn't write the detention provision, he didn't cravenly attach it to the annual military budget bill, he didn't vote for it with a veto proof majority, he expressed his dislike for the provision before and after the vote and he waived the offending provision from the larger bill. I'm not sure what else he was supposed to do, or why he is considered the mastermind behind this provision. Election years are always full of these kinds of gotcha lose/lose gambits, and we dutifully fall for them every time.

Funny as this clip is, I'm not crazy about the president yucking it up on late night shows. It seems a little unprofessional to me. >> ^TheSluiceGate:

Did he slowjam about his suspension of habeas corpus in the USA? He's goofing on chatshows while others may very well at this moment be imprisoned indefinitely without charges or trial on US soil.

It was the first poll I've ever started and I really enjoyed it, too! I was also enthralled to see that the winning vote so far is "I love cats"! We really do enjoy cats on the Sift. There are a few who don't, just like anyone anywhere, but truly the Sift is a great home for cat videos.

I enjoyed voting in your recent cat poll [my first one!]. I was surprised and delighted to see so many positive responses! Happy weekend =o)

Good to know! [I voted in the I love cats category] Cats are what I obviously enjoy watching most, but I've been known to branch out. I had an impressively filmed bee video up a few days ago that blew me away when I first saw it and there is a vintage video featuring a sarcastic John Lennon goofing a reporter posted yesterday. I'm always up for a good laugh wherever I can find one. =oD

HOST: History of Science and Technology by notarobot (Playlist)

kceaton1 says...

You know these types of playlists are great, because you can literally have a science teacher in let's say High School on a field day (or basically a day to let the students goof around a bit) set up a screen at the front of the class with audio of course and just sit there and play videos out of this. People that stick together all these playlists typically do most of the hard work and create a source for the teacher to show hundreds if not thousands of videos on science, ranging from every topic their is.

Obviously, the teacher must do a bit of pre-watching or other types of authentication to make sure he isn't going to start showing porn in the middle of class. Another reason why I love Videosift, it's self auditing by its members ensures that almost every video is exactly the type of beast that the listings, tags, headers, and description say it is.

I truly think that video (and audio video) is a sadly underused resource that teachers SHOULD have easy access to and I believe sites like Videosift are EXACTLY the type of sites they need to not only create their own, but use others without being horribly worried. AS well, the students could even become involved in the site and the process--maybe in the future creating "group" playlists. Students can become involved in playlists, discussion, and blogging or even journaling from the class they are in. But, I think the correct foundation to make it work properly IS what Videosift uses right now.

Playlists like this one are specific and are good at teaching you a bit about the world fairly quickly in a relatively short amount of time. I like to bookmark all playlists like this (in aim), so i would like to thank you for putting it together. This is part of what makes our Sift the great experience and place that it is!

Thanks,
Kimball Eaton - @kceaton1
