Try (Short Film)
Eh. Some good shots, but the pacing isn't terribly good. Also, the complete reliance on voice-overs makes it a didactic; she's just telling us what's on her mind rather than acting it out or letting the direction tell the story.
Tiny gecko is unsinkable
>> ^Avokineok:
I'm always thinking about the great camera work, how do they do it?
Surely they didn't go and look for this gecko in the rain forest and be in luck that these few raindrops were falling perfectly when they had their slowmo cams ready?
As always, great vid from mr. Attenborough!
Well, I wouldn't be so sure about that. To create one of the documentaries, BBC wildlife teams can spend months in places just to get a few good shots. That's why their documentaries are always so top notch.
Anyone know from which series this is? I'm guessing "Life in Cold Blood", but I'm not sure.
Born In Captivity
That was really great, I enjoyed it a lot. Kind of sad, though.
But that rhino is a good shot.
Courtroom brawl - Son attacks his mom's killer/rapist
Hopefully he just gets a slap on the wrist, but it's hard to say that wasn't deserved at all. One of the best police acts I ever saw was in Toronto, outside a bar. A newly engaged woman was sexually assaulted by a guy, in front of her fiance. The cops came and cuffed him, and they brought him out to the car, he kept saying how he would make a woman of her, terrible stuff. The cops looked at the fiance and said they had to "Get something out of the back of their trunk." They went back opened their trunk and had their view obstructed.
The guy lined up a good shot on the chin and dropped him, everyone else helped the guy off the sidewalk, because he clearly slipped and fell. Cops noted he slipped and fell, and tossed him in the back of the car.
It's something like that, that I hope happens to the son, because that was justified.
Cat Limps Home with FUCKING ARROW THROUGH HEAD
But it was a good shot though, right?
The Largest Street Gang in America
I really have to disagree with the burn victim scene, that has propaganda all over it.
For starters, when someone is covered in blood do you really want them to touch you? There is a whole host of viruses that can be transmitted with open wounds. Given that the victim is acting a little odd they have no idea how he would react. Imagine a few droplets of blood going into your nose, eyes, mouth and you are left with a virus, or even getting on your clothing and even with proper care inadvertantly take in the blood. Combine that with the victim acting "odd" if drugs were suspected, needles might be used, hence the increased odds of the victim contracting a transmittable virus. So when the video emphasizes the responders did not want to touch the burn victim, when it shows a scene of the father mourning as the voice of the officers expressing their concern over the blood, it isn't so irrational to be worried about the state of the burn victim.
There was an emphasis in the video on the term "good shot" when the taser was employed implying that the officer took pride in the shot. The "good shot" term was used to describe whether or not the taser made proper contact with the burn victim in order to deliver the shock. This is further proven that both of the persons interviewed used that term independently to describe it. I don't think the taser would work as well with a "bad shot"
Also does the fact that he was on top of the responder's vehicle not say anything about his state of mind?
I feel that the earlier videos do have some claim to accuracy (we don't know all the facts) and quite a bit have made it onto the sift (I have to say the way they treated the female victim is horrendous), but I find the burn victim scene to be flat out insulting in its delivery.
Flight Patterns - Bugs under streetlight
I went back East in June and was doing the same thing off the front porch of our family cabin in Mass. Some good shots I thought:

I need some help (Blog Entry by Sarzy)
We decided not to do video, but when picking our still photog, his presentation and professionalism really stood out. He had us come to a rented studio, wrote up an org chart of the family relations on our first interview - showing he was organized and was aligning his priories with ours. He projected samples of his work and we quizzed him about his most challenging assignments. He had a film background, understood the processes, not just point and click.
Other photogs we talked to met us in coffee shops and were half assed. So that first impression, and attention to detail, was huge. On the day of the wedding he got good shots while blending in, easy going and organized, and had a backup photog.
From what I've heard, a lot of photogs learn the biz 'backing up' an established person.
On the other hand, I read a Yelp review of a photog who lost a couple's weddings pics in a HD crash. This is a *huge* responsibility...trust me, that bride will bad mouth him till the day she dies
Previous work is really important because this is a one-shot deal that has to be right... combination of personality/rapport, technical chops, and of course good taste/sensibilities with editing.
World's youngest pool shark is not even 2 years old
Obviously the kid can >> ^rougy:
He was making some pretty good shots and leaves.
Yes but there was a cut in between each shot. I wonder how often he actually sinks em. Hard to tell from the two videos I've seen so far.

The Fastest Jet Pack Flight in the World.
Horrid video. About 2 seconds of a good shot buried in the middle of a bunch of crap.
Squirrel Melts
*nochannel *cooking *wtf *comedy
That actually looks pretty yummy. I'd drop the pecans and mayo, maybe substitute some horseradish or spicy brown mustard instead.
That kid was a pretty good shot too. Damn near took it's head clean off, and apparently not a single shot in the body.
Jesse Jackson gets emotional over Obama's win
It is very obvious that Rev. Jackson is making sure the camera gets a good shot of those few fake tears he was able to shed. I mean could he at least wipe them away at "some point" during the entire broadcast? What a phony show of support for Obama he is giving for all to see. Well I am not one to be so easily fooled. His time of old school constant cries of racism have now come and gone. That is the real reason for the tears you see. Obama has managed to do within 2 years of campaigning what he attempted to do his entire Life! That was to build a "TRUE RAINBOW COALITION" of people here in our country. God truly has Blessed America!
choggie (Member Profile)
Dangerous thinking there, Laura.
I upvoted Laura's comment, and thus for a referendum on reinstatement (as if), because I fundamentally like Choggie and interact with him frequently outside of Siftopia. I think he has a beautiful mind, be it full of razor wire and pitfalls. I think he's reckless with people's feelings. I recognize that he feels that it's for their own good and agree with his challenges for the most part, even if his style wouldn't suit me at all. Many of those he's challenged feel clearly abused and I don't think he's justified in his approach in some cases, but I can't say for sure because a lot of is with private messaging. Some might have needed a good shot of Choggie.
Dag said it himself, He adds a lot of excitement and interest to the community, but also headache and heartache. But that's the Choggie trip, right? And I agree with Swampy. Hat in hand. And forget about a fourth channel.
Bring him back as a bronze. That way he has to show us more of his excellent videos. Because they are awesome.
Horrific Canadian Safety PSAs
So basically if I get hurt at work I've got a pretty good shot at winning a lawsuit since there "are no accidents." Way to promote the lawyers, Canada!
