5 Gun Myths We Believe b/c of Movies

Drachen_Jager says...

If the people who made this knew anything about guns it would probably be better.

No, your barrel will not burst into flames.

When I was in the Army, some guys hooked up five belts to a MG with an old worn out barrel that was to be thrown away, just to see what would happen. It shot cleanly all the way to the end of the 1,000 round belt without stopping, jams or misfires. The barrel was just starting to glow a bit by the end.

What happens is you burn out the threads if you fire repetitively for a long time, but actually melting the barrel is pretty much impossible (and metal doesn't burn morons).

Silencer on a shotgun? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cz8uZWtt3Q

Works pretty well, not as quiet as the movie, but not excessively loud.

I'm not going to watch further, because this video is spreading as many lies as it clears up.

A tank shell with your name on it

morelenmir says...

APFSDS - Armour Piercing, Fin Stabilized, Discarding Sabot. The American Abrams tankers used to call them 'Silver Bullets' back in the early nineties; maybe they still do. They were made largely out of natural or depleted uranium and they combusted slightly when shot through the air, leaving a faint glowing silvery trail behind. You could see it best at night obviously.

I may not know much about the space program, but to any layman this knowledge should be enough to cease and desist all future nuclear energy projects but hey, it ain't gonna happen. Humanity may have about 200 years left before cascading systems failures renders the big blue glowing marble uninhabitable to the species as we have come to recognize it....Smoke 'em if ya got 'em peeps, and keep on fuckin'!

George Zimmerman Trial - (Adam Buckley's View)

Yogi says...

What do you mean "But" I didn't say he was guilty. I specifically said nobody knows that he's guilty, and that you can't prove that he's guilty.

I would add though, that he would've most likely been found guilty if not shot on the scene by the cops if he was black. Someone pointed out that he could understand how Zimmerman could be found not guilty in the eyes of the law, but he's probably morally culpable at least for Martins death.

I was watching Louis CKs bit earlier today called "Of course, but maybe."

Of course Zimmerman has the right to defend himself, of course. But MAYBE, Maybe if you get out of your car to confront someone because of their race, you deserve to get the shit kicked out of you.

Of course Martin wasn't doing anything wrong by carrying skittles and wearing a hoody of course of course. But MAYBE, Maybe if you're black you should always wear a bright glow in the dark t-shirt and a permanent smile on your face."

But in the eyes of the law, the end result is not enough to judge the man guilty - since Stand Your Ground exists, motive is an essential part of judging.

Going on pure hard evidence is impossible because of what you said yourself only Martin and Zimmerman was there.

I don't doubt that race was one of the reasons Zimmerman even got after him and I also don't doubt that it was an indirect motivator for the Jury to decide him Not Guilty. That said, the law doesn't really care what I think.

Geiger Counter Going Off the Charts in an Antique Shop

chingalera says...

Radium has a half-life of 1600 years and stops glowing after about 20-It's behind glass (watch crystal) so one was shielded from direct bombardment-The casualties from the process came with the paint girls in the preparation and assembly of the illuminated faces and hands, who used lippointing (brush-lickers) to straighten their brushes....that we're dipped in radioactive paint-Nasty bone cancer of the jaw in worst cases.

200 old watches in a display case isn't anything to worry your testicular function over, but you don't want your cat lying on a pile of em...

Democracy Now! - "A Massive Surveillance State" Exposed

CreamK says...

Nice, we are finally going to get that shitstorm i always knew we would get.. We all knew that USA collects all of our data, they don't even hide the fact but now that it's been fully revealed... Well, i for one will try to stay away from US based websites. Not that it matters. One thing is for sure, i'll be sending a LOT of keyword searches, might even do a bot. If they collect my data, i wan't it glow red and waste their time as much as possible.

Space Shuttle Thermal Tile Demonstration

fuzzyundies says...

I saw a demo of this material at a NASA seminar once. The guy held a tile of it in his hand, toasted the other side to near-glowing with a blow torch, and 5 seconds later flipped it onto his other hand. The whole room flinched.

Sewing Needle Sparkler

chingalera says...

Why mommy can't sew!

Here's a pyro-aside this reminded me of:
U will Need:

paperclip
flint
butane lighter

bend paper-clip in such a manner as to hold flint in-place
with lighter, heat flint while holding the end of the paperclip far enough away from finger to avoid heat transfer-(flint will glow and swell twice it's size, at this point...)

Throw glowing flint & paperclip combination at hard surface, concrete, brick wall, etc.

Super explody white-sparkler-action, and really cool sound

There should be a name for this...

Unreal Engine 4 - Infiltrator Demo

00Scud00 says...

Nah, the Doom 3 palette was pitch black interspersed with the glowing eyes of demons, whose closets you have just foolishly stumbled over.
That demo (if you could really call it that) was very purdy but several things occurred to me while I was watching it. When our futuristic ninja gets busted I couldn't help but think, "Yep, I hate it when that happens" there's always one nosy douchebag who has to ruin an otherwise perfectly good infiltration.
In the future, shutting down an assembly line won't just stop the line but also blow up at least half of it, if only Henry Ford had thought of this, who knows where we would be today.
As good as this looks by the time a significant portion of the population has the hardware necessary to run this in real time we will all have moved on to Unreal Engine version 6. So none of this is especially practical for gaming purposes, it makes me wonder if they aren't trying to market this to film makers as well.
