Roger Waters to Mark Zuckerberg

StukaFox says...

Ok, I LOVE Roger Waters, but let's be fair here: Roger Waters's reply to literally everything is "FUCK YOU!". He's said FUCK YOU to David Gilmour so many times that last two remnants of the universe will be a single atom of Bismuth-209 and the last iota of Roger Waters's rage.

Explaining Pink Floyd's First Masterpiece

StukaFox says...

It's impossible to find now, but Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's Ultradisc of 'Meddle' has a recording of Echoes taken from the original master tape. If the only version of the song you've heard is the muddy version on the original release, the MFSL version is almost like a totally different song. It takes something that's already beautiful and deifies it. It is the absolute definitive version of the song.

Also, David Gilmour's version of Echoes off "Live in Gdansk" is uplifting, powerful and heart-breaking all at the same time. Richard Wright plays keyboard; he knows he's dying of cancer and he knows this is the very last time he and his friend David will play the song together. Gilmour feels like he's pouring his heart out to Wright and together, they give the song, and the legendary keyboardist, the sendoff they both deserve.

Richard Wright died one week before "Live" was released, passing on too early at 64.

Mother - Roger Waters in Lockdown

StukaFox says...

Oh for fuck sake! Roger can't let a single goddamn thing go, can he? He's spent so long grinding axes that I'm surprised the entire planet's not covered 3 inches deep in metal shavings.

I'll bet he got short-changed by a waiter in 1965, and on his next album there's going to be a song called 'Oi! That Was A Fiver, You Cunt! Gimme My Bloody Three Pence! Also: Fuck David Gilmour.'

Understanding Comfortably Numb

dannym3141 says...

That's why Gilmour's solos are so good! Everyone talks about people with insane technical skill, but this... well, it just sounds really, really good. And that's what it's about!

Fascinating analysis of a *quality song.

And the solo damn near brings me to tears everytime I hear it. Such an amazing piece of playing... as he says, it's not super technical, but the feel Gilmour puts into every bend.... it's magic.

Also, it's insanely cool that you can play it in harmony with itself.

Understanding Comfortably Numb

Roger Waters - In the Flesh?

StukaFox says...

I'm so pissed.

In 2015, I was in London when this premiered. I went an saw it in Fulham and the movie STUNK (and this is coming from a total Floyd junkie).

I later found out Gilmour was doing a live show in London that same night and there were tickets available. So instead of watching Rog rehashing The Wall, I could have listened to Gilmour playing some of my Floyd favorites.

It's 2017 now and missing that show still pisses me off.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage

ChaosEngine says...

I think this franchise seriously overestimates its own importance.

"The return of xander cage"?? Was there anyone on the planet waiting for that?

Page is playing Plant! Gilmour and Waters are back together! Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen are coming out of retirement! and... uh "Xander Cage" is back in that dumb movie??

still.... upvote, because Donnie Yen.

Roger Waters - What God Wants, Pt. I (2015)

Jeff Beck with David Gilmour - Jerusalem

StukaFox says...

See -- now if I was at some concert and DAVID FUCKING GILMOUR walked out on stage, I'd have to apologize profusely to the poor person in front of me when my RAGING PINK FLOYD HARD-ON knocked them forward six rows.

Pink Floyd - Surfacing

Stormsinger says...

One of the reasons Floyd is top of my list is that no matter how much their music evolves, they never lost track of the sort of sound that made them distinctive. It could be unfair to the rest of the band, but I credit most of that to Gilmour. His style of slow, powerful lead guitar is a rare sound in rock.

This is my favorite band. I usually ignore classic artists later releases, but this could have been a track off any of their earlier works. I'll have to check this album out.
