This video is very important - demonstrates Robert Gibbs' talent and skill with handling media, and why it was a no-brainer for him to be Obama's Press Secretary.

In his efforts to combat claims of ties between Obama and Weather Underground co-founder Bill Ayers in the weeks before the election, Gibbs raised his own national profile when he confronted Fox News Network's Sean Hannity about his repeatedly bringing up the subject of Ayers during the interview.

On the air, Gibbs challenged Hannity's attempts to associate Obama with a terrorist because Obama once served on a charitable board with Ayers. Gibbs countered that not only did the board also consist of Republican McCain supporters, Hannity himself had hosted Andy Martin who had previously made anti-Semitic remarks. Amidst contentious debate, Gibbs argued that, if Hannity's claim that Obama is a terrorist due to an association with Ayers is accurate, one would then have to accept that Hannity is an anti-semite because of his association with Martin.

Gibbs could very well have countered that using a crisis to expand the Executive Branch's authority is EXACTLY what the Bush administration did after 9/11. The question was loaded to get him to say as much. I shouldn't even have to really point it out either, since it was such a blatant power grab back then, and really cannot be compared to what is happening to the economy - this is more of a cause and effect. Things that happened in the past have created the situation. We can't change the past, but we can try to make it so this doesn't happen again. The problem is, WE ALREADY DID, but threw it away when we gutted the Glass-Steagall act.

You'll also notice in the wake of all the Republicans repudiating what Cheney has said, not one has apologized like he's Rush fucking Limbaugh.

This is modal, but it's dorian, not phrygian. Hate to demystify this, but it's just a combination of the oft-used chord progression from Jimi Hendrix's Along the Watchtower with some noodling in a pentatonic gamalon scale (1,3,4,5,7). McCreary does a nice job with this show, but most of the iconic themes (The main title, the tribal drumming, the pulsing synth cylon theme, etc.) were actually created by composer Richard Gibbs in the mini-series. Bear mainly added the ethnic Irish, (LOTR/Titanic sounding stuff )and middle eastern (Hanz Zimmery dudek and vocal stuff) stuff, as well as riffing off the miniseries material.

But hell yes, Gibbs just delivered the awesome bitch-slap, and touched the Rush nerve at the same time. This is a seriously fantastic statement.

That is exactly what he was doing... the best part is that Hannity is either to naive... or to stupid to know he is being mocked.

Hannity didn't have Andy Martin on the show to talk about his hatred of Jews. He had Andy Martin on to shamelessly smear Barak Obama. It's all very despicable. One thing this episode reinforces is that Hannity is the kind of scumbag you read about in books. His brand of changeable character would not hesitate to sell his mother if it saved his own neck.

NetRunner is correct: this guilt by association tactic, employed tongue-in-cheek by Mr. Gibbs, is the same sort used by Hannity ad infinitum. It's that guilt by association tactic I was railing against above so I was actually siding with Colmes.
