What attracted Sigourney Weaver to the character of Ripley

cloudballoon says...

Furiosa got the advantage because I'd rank Mad Max Fury Road much higher than Æon Flux The Movie. Even though I like Æon more than most critics, that movie's not distinct (dystopian?) enough.

But I'm biased as I saw the original animated series first and it was objectively far superior - very arthouse experimental in its day for an American production. Æon is the movie is just the stock ass-kicking comic heroine in the DC/Marvel vein. Æon in the animated series & the latter comics is something... far more interesting.

Translated:

A drink to the ground for those who left
Hit one and rola we are in game,
Feel what I shout your rage with the heart
for that it reached me
Mother this life touched us!
We are what we are
Nobody interferes
unless you want
Go out with the geta open
They wanted to shut us up before but they couldn't.
We are more than friends
Come and run into walls!
asses!
So take it!
If you feel that you can Atorele!
We are still standing!!
Without fear because there is nothing to lose
brothers we are
Born to multiple mothers
TO ALL MOTHER!!!
A DEEEESMOTHER!!
we are not ten
We are a Fist!
We hit hard
Who do you think you are?
do not interfere
because you are going to lose
You have a time to flee before it explodes
TO ALL MOTHER!!!
A DEEEESMOTHER!!

A wolf comes to hit them hard...
They show the fury that converge
we come down
To send you to hell
with clenched fists
And hold your head high!
They forge it strong!
This is the fury that converge!
we come down
To send you to hell
with clenched fists
And hold your head high!

TO ALL MOTHER!
A DEEEESMOTHER!
TO ALL MOTHER!
A DEEEESMOTHER!
TO ALL MOTHER!
A DEEEESMOTHER!

shut that snout
because for less than that
They would shovel your cesses
From the cement
the mouth of the wolf
crazy here we belong
Go back to your golden cage
And do not come to this Hell!
We provoke no one
But we fear no one
to be respected
You have to respect first
Here it is not worth your position or your money
Remember it asshole and don't come
To this Helloooooooo!

Check out my pecs

shouldn't revisit this, but the logic here is off...

Joe Angry says to some teenage-looking kid (paraphrasing)...

"Don't tell me who to talk to!"

...and was furious about the kid telling him not to talk to someone he doesn't know.

if Mr. Fury is a fair-minded person, if HE gets to talk to people he doesn't know (i.e. the kid) THEN the kid should get to talk to people HE doesn't know!

Thus the kid did nothing wrong - other than chiding Chip Onthesholder for saying 'something he doesn't like' (Otto Overreacting's words)...but isn't HE doing the same?

Doesn't seem to be any party affiliation really?

How one little boat (and me) held up miles of London traffic

StukaFox says...

In Seattle, there's a shipping canal that cuts through the Ballard, Fremont and University districts, each spanned by a single drawbridge, any of which MUST be opened if ANY boat traffic requests it. There's a time between 4pm - 6pm where they won't open the bridge, but one minute after 6, if you're not across you just turn off your engine and watch every entitled prick in the PNW putt their boat down the canal. Bridge opens, 10 minutes pass, bridge closes again. All along the canal. Backing traffic up to the fucking moon and it takes about 15 minutes to clear. Which works out wonderfully because the bridge often has to open 10 minutes after it just closed. At first, it's a novelty to see the bridge open. Then it's meh. Then it's the bane of your fucking existence. You start to whimper and sweat when you hear the two-minute horn and the ding-ding-ding of the gates coming down. Then come sthe white-hot fury directed at anyone who has the gall to come down the canal at exactly 6:00:01 and block traffic for the next 47 years. Hate. Hate. HATE!!!

The NOAA ships, mega-yachts and ships going to the yards are kind cool, 'tho.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!!!!!!

Nina Simone: Mississippi Goddam

Ashenkase says...

On her debut album for Philips, Nina Simone in Concert (1964), for the first time she addressed racial inequality in the United States in the song "Mississippi Goddam". This was her response to the June 12, 1963, murder of Medgar Evers and the September 15, 1963, bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, that killed four young black girls and partly blinded a fifth. She said that the song was "like throwing ten bullets back at them", becoming one of many other protest songs written by Simone. The song was released as a single, and it was boycotted in some[vague] southern states.[31][32] Promotional copies were smashed by a Carolina radio station and returned to Philips.[33] She later recalled how "Mississippi Goddam" was her "first civil rights song" and that the song came to her "in a rush of fury, hatred and determination". The song challenged the belief that race relations could change gradually and called for more immediate developments: "me and my people are just about due". It was a key moment in her path to Civil Rights activism.[34] "Old Jim Crow", on the same album, addressed the Jim Crow laws. After "Mississippi Goddam", a civil rights message was the norm in Simone's recordings and became part of her concerts.

Arnold Schwarzenegger New Blunt Message For Donald Trump

Drachen_Jager says...

Asking @bobknight33 to engage in some form of cogent argument is as pointless as asking shit to smell nice. Ain't gonna happen.

He comes, he drops a few word bombs, if anyone questions him or attempts any form of intelligent argument he fades into the woodwork. Why? Because he knows if he engages, he loses, because he's got nothing. Just word bombs. To quote the Bard, he is "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

I know, I know, be nice to fellow sifters. @BobKnight will receive a full apology and retraction from me if and when he proves me wrong by presenting a cogent argument instead of his usual disingenuous crap.
