Silver Vs Chocolate

artician says...

Yeah, same formula as american late-night segments; selective editing.
Not sure this is EIA though, is it? Because of that tag I was expecting someone to have tried to eat the silver bar.

Jon Stewart on Charleston Terrorist Attack

Jinx says...

Well, I think 9/11 was probably the watershed moment there.

And lets be real, there are other reasons the US has interest in the Middle East beyond just stopping terrorism.

I love the Stewart formula. Make people laugh enough and they'll sit and listen to your sincere thoughts on anything, EVEN when you completely remove the comic veil. Not that I am at all criticising him or suggesting it is a deliberate ploy, I'm just glad somebody can say things so eloquently to an audience without it sounding like a lecture.

Terrorist attacks are really rare too. The US government seems happy to 'turn the country inside out' to be seen to be catching and preventing them.

Every Movie Trailer Is Exactly The Same

They are aware that something other than action and superhero movies do exist, right?

If you have a formulaic movie plot, you will end up with a formulaic trailer.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Official Teaser #2

poolcleaner says...

Yeah, I sort of didn't want to bring him up. I'm still reeling from Prometheus... I walked out of each Star Wars and Star Trek film shaking my head wondering what happened. But Prometheus -- there wasn't a single moment I believed I was watching a film from the Alien franchise. Sad memories... sad memories...

On a lighter note, how about M. Night's new flick? Thoughts? Ahaha! Maybe this time the secret ending is that it's going to be a good film.

All of these people are capable of making good movies and television. Where does it go wrong? Why are we being dumped on with horrible, but well meaning movies? Someone tell Hollywood their formula SUCKS. We liked it before there was a formula.

If Star Wars 7 is a piece of shit, does that mean It Follows was my favorite film of the year? That would be hilarious, because I really like that film but mostly for the score. I sort of hope it's my favorite film of the year, with awesome lofi soundtrack and "F Star Wars" as my cited reasons.

The problem with Lost, like Star Trek Into Darkness, wasn't JJ. It was Lindelof. The man's a hack. Fortunately, he's not writing this.

Is Obamacare Working?

JiggaJonson says...

@everyone
Part of the reason, I should point out, that her care cost so much is because we don't have enough government intrusion @bobknight33

When I look at the bill for her formula for example, it apparently cost my insurance company $750 to buy one can of formula (in bulk, mind you) when I can walk down to Walgreen's and get the same can for $20~.
It's truly baffling and if requested I can post pictures.

Why is this? It has to do with insurance companies and negotiations about prices through the hospital. Those prices should be capped with a law, but they aren't.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words. She's doing well and just had a first birthday, but we have 3 appointments a week and another few here and there that each have their own $$$ amount attached. I REALLY would be in the streets if we had to pay for all of this alone. Even if they didn't drop us because of the pre-existing condition, she's reaching what would have been her cap for care of 1 million dollars. Obamacare did away with those too. :-)

Thanks Obama!

Drifting Nissan GT-R almost crashes

oritteropo says...

It is about speed. They aim to be the fastest and the most sideways, and there are also points awarded for style.

The formula drift scoring is described here, and seems fairly similar to the other competitions I've seen televised:

I don't understand the point of intentional drifting. Does it have anything to do with racing (when on a track) as in trying to have the best time? I assume its more like watching monster trucks or WWE wrestling. Am i wrong?

The Science of Anti-Vaccination

TheFreak says...

As an interesting parallel; my dog started losing his hair. I went online to figure out the cause and learned a lot of good information. Food sensitivity causes canine hair loss, corn based diets are bad for dogs, large inexpensive name brands use suspect ingredients...there were tons of forum discussions available with information. Pages of talk with people's experience trying to correct the problem. Inevitably, they fed the dog such and such terribly expensive food and the problem went away...then the manufacturer must have changed the formula because it came back...tried new ultra expensive dog food which fixed the problem....

Everyone obviously loved their dogs and they were doing everything they could to fix it. Same story over and over, tons of money spent.

Until I noticed one random comment that was different; "seasonal pattern baldness". Nothing you can do, it's incurable and comes and goes with the seasons.

So all the anecdotal experience, one food fixed it then the brand changed and it came back...all of it was random chance as the problem naturally came and went. But when the answer was provided, you can't fix the problem, it was completely ignored.

I believe people reject that they can't control things in life. Isnt this what makes people reject science and turn to naturalism and religion? The idea that you can reshape the world, in your own mind, into something you can control.
