Neither Rain Nor Snow Nor Tour De France.....

dannym3141 says...

@vil - well, the Tour starts in a different country each time and the Grand Depart was from Utrecht this year. Perhaps his starting weight was 80 but delivered some of it? Perhaps he has another 40 to deliver after? 20 kilos per bag is reasonable, i've mounted ~40 kilos on a rear bike rack before. I don't know how Dutch postmen dress, but it didn't sound like the security were speaking English to me - the woman at the start was speaking Dutch, as was the man holding on to the bike. And people are allowed to ride the route.

But how did a hard boiled northerner (UK) like this end up delivering huge amounts of post in Utrecht?

Utrecht not in France - check, Tour de France in Utrecht - check, f****** 80 kilos of post in three bags, that would be 26.6 kilos per bag, barely possible - reluctant check, dutch postman costume - fake?, usage of f*** - very good, Utrecht postman and TdF security appear to be english - weird and wonderful, couple riding along the TdF route behind the backs of "ello mate" security at 0.45 - cute.

Max Verstappen drives Dad Jos around Monaco

oritteropo says...

I found an actual transcript, translated to English (and video with the original sound, instead of having it turned down):

00:01 Max: Do I have to put the seatbelt on? CameraMan: I would put it on
00:07 Max: Nice isn't it! 17years old, can't drive on the road but here in Moncaco you can!
00:15 Jos: Well Max, we're going to do a lap of Monaco. You're going to tell us how you're going to do it.
00:25 Jos:It's quite weird to get driving lessons from your son!
00:28 Jos:Are you going to keep the car in one piece?
00:30 Max: Yeah no problem
00:33 Jos: Jezus Max! ehhh Fuck!
00:40 Max: There is a bump here so you need to go around it.
00:42 Jos:It's not fun at all to drive along with him to be honest.
00:45 Max: Come of the brakes here, back on the throttle, as close as you can get to the wall.brake as late as you can.
00:53 Jos: Everything ok with Olav in the back? (dutch comentator)
00:58 Max: Try to get some curb here and get a good exit out of here.
01:06 Jos: This is were we enter the tunnel, how fast do you drive here with a F1 car? Max: At the end of the straight around 290kph.
01:16 Jos:Where do you brake? Max: at the 120m mark, but we're not going to do that in this car because I have to safe the brakes a little bit.
01:29 Jos: I don't like this at all!
01:34 Max: This is where you can safe a lot of time towards the chicane and that one is almost full throtle.
01:46 Jos: I'm so glad the lap is almost done! Oh jezus.
02:01 Max: Get a good exit onto the straight.
02:08 Jos: Ok just slow it down now, I'm done with this after one lap.
02:14 Max: What? It went alright didn't it? Jos: Yeah, it looked alright. Olav: HolyMoly!

Frozen - Blood Test

kceaton1 says...

*promote *quality

I think this deserves quality; this is top grade sarcasm and multi-movie parody madness. To top it off, they use the absolutely awesome Robot Chicken still-frame, cut, edit, move, shoot, "animate", shoot, next-frame; which is an absolutely long process...

If it is done correctly and well, like they accomplished it here; what can I say: awesome,,, It's always quality when they combine this type of animation and the correct "skit".

BTW, it is really good that they decided to forego the deleted scene from 'Frozen' directed by Tom Six... Maybe they thought it was just too "Dutch" *shrugs*. Especially the singing parts. Just enough characters to fill, every role, necessary...

Have you ever heard of Anton Wilhelm Amo? No? Me neither, until last week.

I only bring this up, because he seems to have been a hell of a human being. Let me just mention some bullet points:
- enslaved as a child by the Dutch West India Company
- handed over to the Duke of Brunswick as a present
- freed, baptised and educated by the Duke
- first black man ever at a European university (Halle, later Wittenberg)
- acquired Magister degrees in philosphy and natural sciences
- fluent in six languages
- went back to Ghana after his patron died and the overall climate in Germany become considerably more reactionary than before
- died in a Dutch slave camp in Ghana

Amo was mentioned in a French documentary about the history of capitalism. Apparently, he was (one of) the first to publicly recognise the dangers of separating the economic logic from the reality of a society and human behaviour.

The fact that I had never heard his name even once prior to this documentary frustrates me to no end. The major consensus narrative all but erased him from history...

Dutch journalist Jeroen Akkermans keeps uploading scores of pictures taken at the MH17 crash site to his Flickr account. No corpses, just debris -- no warning neccessary.

A few interesting pictures, if you don't mind amateur forensics:
- left wing, top side: damaged by debris coming from the fuselage at an outward trajectory
- window panel, aft-most cockpit window, port side: shredded by shrapnel, downward trajectory?
- second door from the front, port side: no damage from shrapnel or debris
- port-side hatch of the forward landing gear: no damage

So, explosion in the foward-left quadrant, above the cockpit?

I know, I know -- wild speculation, utterly without a point. But it's infinitly less depressing than looking at the latest pictures from Gaza. Bad days to be a news junkie...

Edit: rear door, starboard side -- no damage

Bilderberg Member "Double-Speaks" to Protestors

Trancecoach says...

Some people love their rulers. That's why they submit to them with such enthusiasm. But then we have the growing number of those who don't like the current situation very much. And, at a different level, you have the Samsoms and the Thiels...

It's not surprising, then, to see how Samsom pretty much lies (or, is at least being evasive to the point of being misleading) about the fact that the Dutch monarchy being merely "symbolic." Far from it!

Muslims Interrogate Comedian

shuac says...

The crucial difference is that the WBC doesn't issue death threats toward novelists/cartoonists, unless they've evolved their God Hates Fags campaign, that is.

Plus the international media is more than happy to paint the WBC with true colors: the same can't be said about the media's response to the muslim reaction toward Salmon Rushdie/Dutch Newspaper/Matt Stone/Trey Parker/et al.

But I take your point.

artician said:

You're right, and I wasn't trying to be a dick to @shuac about it, but I think the US's media and military industrial complex are doing all they can to make Americans think that's the case with Islam, to keep fueling the fear and hate, and that's made me a little overly sensitive to the subject.
