Beware of the Wild Kung-Fu Master!

Hmmm says...

Lol saw this video the first time over a year ago. During the summer in Finland you can spot lots of drunken masters around.

Ass Kicking Kung Fu Epic: True Legend

Mazex says...

Yeah this US trailer is entirely misleading, and the rock music is so stupid. The film is decent though, saw it when it got released in China 2010 Feb and the effects and martial arts are great, however the scenes in the film fit together pretty badly.. Jay Chou annoys me as well, just as he annoys me in the Green Hornet. I wish the film had more Drunken Boxing too, it's supposed to be a kinda prequel to Drunken Master with Jackie Chan, which is by the same director, that film is hilarious and awesome.

Drunken Master vs. The Stick King

One of those rare occasions where the sequel was better than the original.

As a whole movie, I definitely agree. Comparing the fights alone, I have a hard time. Some people (possibly you?) can't stand this older style where they pause on each strike to show what's being done, but it doesn't bother me. I love both of these movies.

This is the 2002 re-release which had a new English soundtrack created with matching 'dubtitles'. It's an abomination, to be honest.
If you make the mistake of selecting English audio, you'll find many of the original lines have been replaced with bad British humor, including the big moment at the end where Fei Hung establishes himself as a master. Gargling sounds were added to most scenes where Fei Hung is drinking and he whines and complains like a snotty rich kid throughout the entire movie.
Thankfully this is the Cantonese audio we're hearing, but the subtitles match the stupid English "translation". This is the same audio that is responsible for the King of Bamboo turning into the Stick King.

Stick King is funnier and so are the British...Fuck China.

Legend of the Drunken Master (Jackie Chan)

ponceleon says...

Excellent clip, however, this is technically Drunken Master II. It was just re-branded for a re-release in the US.

The original DM was great. Much lower production values, but the actual old drunken master guy was a f'in hoot.

Technically, since it got discarded before it got Sifted, it did escape the Sift.

ah, touché

Is mine considered a dupe if the other person discarded their video?

Nope, yours is good. I knew I had seen it before and did a search. I just thought it was funny that gunrock made the same comment about it not being sifted yet.

Top 10 Jackie Chan Stunts

How can you think that the trailer looks terrible!?! And the kid doesn't look that bad, probably worked his ass off to do this. It looks like a fun adventure with good martial arts from Yuen Wo Ping and the two legends, great cinematography, and an epic feel. I'll take old school Jackie Chan/Drunken Master any day, but this is something different, and I think it looks awesome. Which Chan flicks are you not a fan of? The American ones or his HK stuff?

Finally, Jet Li and Jackie Chan in the Same Movie

NeuralNoise says...

Jackie Chan was a great drunken master, but now he's sixty and arthritic. Jet li was amazing until he gave up on gravity. The kid seems too much of a stoner to convince in the role. I'll regret but will watch anyway, One never knows....
