Richard Ayoade Faces Bullying At The Work Place

poolcleaner says...

It's funny because he's pretending to be bullied. It's like his character in the IT Crowd. How do you not get it? YOU FUCKING IGNORANT TOOL.

Okay, I'm calm, I'm calm. I'll KILL YOU.

No, no, no one needs to die. No one needs to --

*STABS DANNY IN THE THROAT*

Whew. I feel much better now that I've murdered someone in my head. Wait, are you okay, danny?

Danny?

Danny... ?

I've killed him for real this time... with my mind! I'm a superhero...

*jumps out of a window*

I think Rich's shtick is that he speaks and behaves slightly awkwardly, offbeat. So i think part of the joke is him inexpertly/unexpectedly using a cattle herding term, the conceit of which is that Rob can decide to buy him some more biscuits or not as he chooses, because it's his money and Rich isn't about to force him. Obviously analysing it doesn't do it much justice.

That's what i think, but i don't actually find Rich funny so i might be missing the joke myself.

Stephen Colbert Is Genuinely Freaked Out About The Brexit

vil says...

Exactly, danny, all those miners have to find something else to do, because mining coal is no longer viable. I never mentioned laziness. I did not say it was fun or easy or fair. We (the state) could go on paying them to save their lives and dignity but please lets not pay them for useless work mining expensive coal that no-one wants. Lets pay them for requalification, relocation, pensions. I dont blame them for being bitter about Thatcher, I blame them for looking for scapegoats. Polish coal miners and steelworkers are in exactly the same predicament.

Brexit is a knee jerk reaction to the world not being the way some people want it to be, making it worse.

Meh, I don't think he's the Donald Trump of the Esplanade, more Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon "I'm too old for this shit" lazy.

I disagree. He lied to attempt to control the kids...to me, "controlling dickhead" is apropos.
Note, he did not tell them to be careful, he told them they can't ride there. Had he said 'you need to be careful and slow when riding here, and now you're on notice so if you hurt someone it will be considered intentional and charged as a crime', I wouldn't argue. He didn't do that, he lied about the law, then got mouthy and dismissive when proven wrong.
I can't fault a 15 year old for getting excited that he won an argument with an adult in authority based on his having more factual knowledge about the law than the adult who's profession is LAW ENFORCEMENT, or for being a bit smarmy to the adult that started being dismissively smarmy FIRST.
When an adult acts like a child to a child, it's ridiculous to expect the child to respond like an adult. It would be great if it happened, but it's not reasonable to expect.

Triumph And Fake Fox News Girls At Republican Rallys

vil says...

I have to say I lost patience with the video quickly. What is the point? Such careful production of a simple joke stretching it out to almost 9 minutes only to hear the one politician asked say "Thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard". And it was.

I find Bob (and indeed Trump) more entertaining and real.

Danny: Socialism is not a plan as such, rather an ideology. Originally it was an ideology that definitely wanted good things for most people. With all due respect I don't believe (see what I did there? basically I am admitting I haven't a clue) Bernie has a plan. I also dont believe he is a socialist. He has some good (partly socialist) ideas but would IMHO lack the mechanisms to put them in place. Much like Obama but more so.

If I were voting I would probably be tempted to throw in a protest vote for Bernie just to show all the others what I think. But Bernie will not get the nomination, would lose the election and would only make a small impact if somehow elected. I will eat my keyboard if he makes any real impact on big banks. But if he wants to try I would support him for want of a better option.

Trump fascist? Big business running government, nationalist, crackdown on minorities, violent supporters at rallies, apparent ultra-conservatism with dubious own morality, rich, stupid, arrogant. Check. Lacks balls though, so no.

Eoin's Slippery Slide

robbersdog49 says...

Adrenaline rushes aren't dangerous if they're done properly. Personally I'm going to make sure my little boy is exposed to plenty of 'scary' things as he grows up so he can learn about risk and how to assess/handle it properly.

I saw a great documentary about this with Danny MacAskill called Daredevils: Life On The Edge. It looked at adrenaline junkies and investigated why they do what they do. At the end of the program there's a really nice choreographed sequence with MacAskill and various others performing tricks as they descend down the step into an underground station in London, and through the station itself.

The sequence was directed by a hollywood stunt specialist who has worked with all the top guys in big blockbuster movies and he said that the stuntmen and women, far from what most people think, are the least likely people in the world to do something risky. There are two parts to this. Firstly they've learned how to be very good at assessing risk. They understand extremely well what makes something safe or risky. They've had a lot of experience and have learned from it.

Secondly they are very highly skilled. What would be very risky for us to do isn't for them because they have the training to perform safely. We only think what they're doing is dangerous because we ourselves would be very likely to be hurt doing it.

If you insulate a kid from risky experiences you deny them the chance to learn in a controlled environment. It's like teaching a kid to cook. If you look after them really well and provide everything they need and cook them fantastic nutritious meals every day until they leave home they'll love you immensely for it. Then they'll move out, try to look after themselves and end up burning the house down with a pan fire or cut the end of their finger off with a knife or shave the skin off their hand with a grater.

Teach a kid how to use a sharp knife safely and how to sharpen it and keep it keen and they'll be safe for the rest of their life. Kids should be able to use sharp knives, under strict supervision of course, to learn the safe way of doing it. They should be doing 'dangerous' things to learn to do them safely. Part of the learning process is probably going to hurt. They may well get a few cuts before they get their knife skills up to scratch, but if they're in a controlled environment these should be small compared to the injuries that happen when someone with no idea about knives forces a blunt one through something tough.

As for adrenaline sports, the more they fall over the better they learn to balance. If this kid goes on a bit of a bigger slide and gets thrown off in the corners it's going to hurt, but it's not going to kill him. He'll find his limits and respect them more.

I'd rather my kid makes his mistakes while I'm still around to clear up the mess

"Wow", Understatment of the Century. Wait for it.
