Don't f**k with an elephant. Ever.

bmacs27 says...

At about 17 seconds you can see the elephant lifting the croc out of the water, presumably with his tusk. I'm guessing that smarted, but you're right, it isn't entirely clear.

Actual Gun/Violent Crime Statistics - (U.S.A. vs U.K.)

grinter says...

We should probably do something about the elephant in the living room because he is shitting on the furniture.
I'm not judging the elephant, but I am saying that we should start trying to find a more sensible arrangement.

As for talking about the elephant being hypocritical because we've also got a hippo in the bathtub.. well, there's a donkey on the roof, a croc in the kitchen, a pangolin in the vestibule, and there's a goat in my bed. You know what? You're right; maybe we shouldn't mention the elephant.

I'm arguing gun culture is no more unhealthy than many other tolerated subcultures (e.g. drunks). I also think it is inconsistent if not hypocritical to call one out and not the other. Finally, I think painting millions of people based on their ownership of inanimate objects requires too broad a brush. Who are you to cast judgement?

According to this article he suffered injuries during the scene which took 3 months to film.

HE suffered injuries? What about the crocs? That was kind of shitty that they used real animals, I really thought it was faked.

Apparently he wrangled the creatures and was very good at that.

There's no way you'd be allowed to do this today and rightfully so. The seventies were a different time, as we're recalling a lot in the UK right now...

How Not to Feed a Crocodile

messenger says...

Saw on a nature show that crocks are among the stupidest animals, and really easy to dominate on land. You just tap them the top of the end of their snout. This tells them you're bigger than them and they back off. It's easiest done with a stick. This guy could have used his knuckles.>> ^Velocity5:

It seems like he's done this before, so maybe they know what unexpected hacks to use to control the crocodile's behavior.
And in case things go wrong, maybe the tour guide has a powerful rifle trained on the croc.
So maybe less risky than it looks.

Or, the croc got so bored he fell asleep. >> ^boblobblaw:

I highly doubt it was drowning either. I think a more plausible explanation would be that the jaguar pierced the top of the croc's skull with its teeth.
>> ^iaui:
I'm not sure that crocodile was drowning ... some crocodiles can stay under water for upwards of two hours, some even longer. Perhaps if it was caught off guard before it could breathe in and prepare for a dive it might drown? Or perhaps the jaguar footage was really over a couple of hours long and it just stood there holding the crocodile underwater that whole time and the editor just didn't want to make us watch that length of film... (:

Crocodiles are afraid of lions? Whoa. That blows my mind.

There's a video out there of a jaguar drowning a crocodile. Just grabs it and pins it under the water. Big cats are not to be fucked with.
