I'd definitely be interested in seeing these saltwater crocodiles that are nonthreatening to humans.

There's the rub...in many places, information IS hard to come by. If your Dr still believes it's a good thing for your child's health, and tells you so, you are likely to believe him/her. I agree, they SHOULD know by now, but that's not the same as saying they do know. If you think the information you have is correct, you would have no reason to think you need a 'refresher course' about it...sadly.
It seems we agree that this is something people should at least be educated about and should actually consider thoroughly before doing it to their children....or better yet wait until they can educate the child and let them decide...unless there's a medical need for it (or a good likelihood of one in the near future) like the ones described above.

Male circumcision is a far cry from 'female circumcision', which is really clitorectomy (I've never heard of a legitimate reason for that)....maybe if they cut the whole tip off they would compare, but that's not how it's done.

you are right, my modification of your hypothetical did muddy it a bit off topic, but was meant to show that there may be an unknown reason for the 'mutilation' that makes it beneficial rather than barbaric. That seems to NOT be the case for most circumcision...at least not in today's society....but perhaps there are reasons I don't know for it.

Sometimes I forget just how fucking hilarious Norm is, and then I go on another Norm binge on YouTube. This and his bit about the Crocodile Hunter on The Daily Show are my favorite things ever.

From a feminist friend of a friend:

So, what's his big revelation here? That unattractive women are interesting, too? Really? Not impressed.

He admits to working his fame on attractive women and then felt guilty for it, and made Tootsie to make up for his guilt (and cashed in, in the process). I don't hold it against him for having a "come to Jesus" moment, by dressing up in drag. I don't even care that he got emotional when he shared it with the American Film Institute, as some sort of cultural revelation.

What bothers me is that we live in a culture that feeds off these momentary glimpses of heart, when we all know that there is really so much more. And that this admiration for such a minor insight really sets the standard far too low.

Let's not mistake a sincere moment with actual, you know, integrity.
Sure, it's a sweet video and a sweet message (maybe a bit saccharine for my tastes). And Tootsie is, for sure, a great flick! But, crying on camera is not the limit-case for what constitutes a touching and meaningful moment, particularly one like this, devoid of any real context and depth. It's emptiness masquerading as meaning.

Crocodile.

I feel bad for the crocodile pit cleanup guys - after the tourists leave they go in and clean up all the feces. Almost as dangerous, plus you are cleaning up croc poop.

I remember visiting that zoo when I was in Thailand. It was quite an awful place. They had drugged tigers chained to a post that you could pose with for a fee, an Asian black bear that was so horrendously obese that he just sat on his ass and drooled all day, and twenty by twenty foot enclosures packed with crocodiles (you couldn't see the ground). The crocodile show was incredibly boring, however during the show I happened to spot an elephant with what looked to be a fifth leg. Turns out it was just his massive erection. I think he may have changed lanes without signaling since the female trumpeted quite loudly when he mounted her. I suppose it's hard not to make a ruckus when you're being penetrated by a six foot long dick.
