Those profits aren't "available", you have to fight long and hard for them against an entrenched, experience, wealthy, connected foe. Not only that, but you must then convince investors, city councils, etc. that what is often a fairly unproven or novel idea will be a better investment in very financially tight times than putting in a coal or natural gas plant (especially since our power grid system was designed for these nearby, constant power sources).

Anyhow, I don't want to start driving into the details... my response in a nutshell is the barriers from idea to operation are very significant, requiring tons of work and tons from tons of employees, which means tons of money.

^tell me this. why do you need incentive for people to enter a $1,000,000,000,000 industry? you don't think the sheer profit available is enough?

How to create a $1,000,000,000,000 industry!

Not only that, but to even start this battle you must convince investors, city councils, etc. that what is often a fairly unproven or novel idea will be a better investment in very financially tight times than putting in a coal or natural gas plant (made even harder given that the US grid system was designed for these nearby, constant power sources).

Anyhow, I don't want to start driving into the details... my response in a nutshell is the barriers from idea to operation are very significant, requiring tons of work from a good number of bright employees, which means tons of money just to get the ball rolling. In summary, Pres. Clinton is right when he notes that "we" paid a pile in taxes to get the energy industry going, and still pay a pile of money in taxes to keep putting lines up and updating systems; if we were serious about phasing into the new technology it is our responsibility as a community of citizens to make it happen, not the responsibility of the industry.

You can't compare schools to pavement and water pipes?

In reply to this comment by dystopianfuturetoday:
Our system isn't ala carte. Schools, like roads or any other public works are available to you whether you want to use them or not. If you don't like public roads, you may build your own, but it's not the responsibility of the government to pave custom roads for you. Public priority lies with the public system. If you want to improve or extend the road (school) system, then get involved in local politics. (school board, city council, initiative system, etc.)

Also, the embezzlers would be McSchool, not you.

Vouchers and 'school choice' are embezzlement scams.

How can they be embezzlement scams? There are no vouchers and "school choice" now..unless you just plain pull your kid out and go to a private school or homeschool. Even then we still pay taxes for public schools.

I hope you aren't saying I want to embezzle my own money when I want my tax money back since I'm not using the public school.

The fact that Obama has campaigned longer doesn't mean he has more experience.

Obama 1985-1988: Served as the director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP), a church-based community organization originally comprising eight Catholic parishes in Greater Roseland (Roseland, West Pullman, and Riverdale) on Chicago's far South Side. During his three years as the DCP's director, its staff grew from 1 to 13 and its annual budget grew from $70,000 to $400,000, with accomplishments including helping set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants' rights organization in Altgeld Gardens.

Palin 1984-1988:In 1984, Palin won the Miss Wasilla beauty contest (playing the flute), then finished second in the Miss Alaska pageant, at which she won a college scholarship and the "Miss Congeniality" award. Palin attended Hawaii Pacific College — now known as Hawaii Pacific University — in Honolulu for a semester in 1982, majoring in Business Administration. She transferred in 1983 to North Idaho College. In 1987, Palin received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho, where she also minored in political science.

Obama 1988-1996:Attended Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1991. During that time he was also the editor of the Harvard Law Review. In his sophomore year he was elected president of the Law Review, supervising a staff of 80 editors. Between 1992 and 1996, he taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School.

Palin 1988-1996:1988, she worked briefly as a sports reporter for KTUU-TV in Anchorage, Alaska. She also helped out in her husband’s family commercial fishing business. Ran for Wasilla city council in 1992, won and served two terms from 1992 to 1996. Ran for mayor of Wasilla (pop. ~8000) in 1996 and won.

Quick outline. Source: Wikipedia.

I might continue on another post, Deedub, but I just wanted to make something clear here:

Do you consider the two outlines above to be equal in measure and weight?

If yes, why?

If no, which would you consider more qualified for a career in government?

John McCain's new running mate

In order to even out the information you posted I had two choices: Either add information about Palin's achievements after she took office, or delete the info you posted about Obama's achievements. I chose the latter. I didn't want to waste my time. It's obvious to me that your mind is closed.

How does my political affiliation have anything to do with whether or not I post on your profile?

In reply to this comment by rougy:
I told you not to talk to me on my profile any more, didn't I?

Doesn't matter, though. You're a conservative Republican and you're going to do whatever you want, huh? That's very typical you you, Deedub, and people like you. You don't give a shit about anyone.

I asked you not to argue this stuff with me on my privete profile. Doesn't matter, you're going to send me another message telling me how "skewed" my argument is.

So, who's the one who had to delete information about Barack Obama in order to make it seem like he only had as much experience as Sarah Palin?

You did. You are the one who skewed the info.

By the way, there are several videos on the Sift that are claiming essentially what I am claiming.

Why don't you post there? Go there and defend all of Palin's experience!

I'd rather you didn't continue this asinine conversation on my profile.

I'd ask you again not to respond and to keep these arguments on the boards, but hey, you're a conservative republican and what I want just doesn't fucking matter, does it?

In reply to this comment by deedub81:
Wow. I must have hit a nerve.

Take a chill pill.

I was not trying to convince anyone that Palin is the best choice for the republican ticket. I don't think McCain and Palin are the best candiates to lead our Nation. I was simply attacking your skewed and unfair argument. I'm sorry if that hurt your feelings.

In reply to this comment by rougy:
You are so full of shit it's sad. Typical of the American Con, you completely ignore what is relevant and embrace whatever triffle you think proves your point.

You're an asshole, man. I'd appreciate it if you'd keep this shit to the posts instead of dirtying my profile with your stupidity.

You didn't supply a summary of Palin's achievements. If you remove the summary of what Obama has done since being elected it turns into this:

Palin served two terms on the Wasilla, Alaska City Council from 1992 to 1996, and was elected mayor of Wasilla in 1996. In 2002, she was elected Governor of Alaska.

Obama was elected to, and seved in the Illinois State Senate from 1997-2004. He was elected to serve in the US House of Representatives in 2000.

In short: Palin has exactly 5 more years of experience in government, and 6 more years of experience in an executive position. It comes across a lot differently when you write it out in non-propoganda format.

There is really no comparison between Palin's experience and Obama's.

I cut this from the center of Metafilter, but I think it's pretty accurate:

From wikipedia:

Palin's experience: After being selected as the runner up in the 1984 Miss Alaska contest, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla, Alaska City Council from 1992 to 1996, was elected mayor of Wasilla in 1996, and ran unsuccessfully for Lieutenant Governor in 2002.

After charging ethical violations by state Republican Party leaders, she won election in 2006 by first defeating the incumbent governor in the Republican primary, then a former Democratic Alaskan governor in the general election.

Obama's experience: A graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review, Obama worked as a community organizer and practiced as a civil rights attorney before serving in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. He taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, he announced his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2003. After a primary victory in March 2004, Obama delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004. He was elected to the Senate in November 2004 with 70% of the vote.

As a member of the Democratic minority in the 109th Congress, he helped create legislation to control conventional weapons and to promote greater public accountability in the use of federal funds. He also made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During the 110th Congress, he helped create legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for returned U.S. military personnel. After announcing his presidential campaign in February 2007, Obama emphasized withdrawing American troops from Iraq, energy independence, decreasing the influence of lobbyists, and promoting universal health care as top national priorities.

Woman Fakes Being Hurt In Courtroom (with delayed reaction)

Lithic says...

This isnt a courtroom but a Carson CA City Council meeting.

I thought it had been on here before but now I can't find it so perharps not.

Quote from unknown newspaper:

"Chaos at a Tuesday night City Council meeting in Carson, California, was caught on videotape. The tape shows Vera Robles Dewitt, a former councilmember leading an effort to recall Mayor Jim Dear, hitting Commissioner Jan Schaefer on the head with some papers. After being struck, "Schaefer waited a beat or two, then let out a blood-curdling shriek and rolled onto the floor in apparent agony," according to Daily Breeze newspaper.

Mayor Dear called for DeWitt to be arrested, and after the meeting was adjourned -- after midnight -- DeWitt was arrested on suspicion of battery. She was immediately released after her arrest.

"From where I stood, it was a crime," said Capt. Todd Rogers of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "It was an intentional act of violence against another person. We're investigating it as a crime."

Rogers described the blow as a "bip," according to the Daily Breeze. Asked whether Schaefer's reaction seemed delayed, Dear said she appeared stunned. "It looked like a senior citizen who, unexpectedly, got hit on the head by a hostile person," said Dear. "It upset her to the point where she actually fell forward and lost her balance and fell onto the ground due to the hit on the head."

"It was a little peck," Robert Lesley, a recall supporter told the newspaper. "And then she rolls out on the floor. And I just said, 'Oh man, here we go.' "
