EEVBlog - Hobbyist Arrested For Bringing Homemade Clock

NicoleBee says...

It seemed to be made clear quite quickly that the clock parts were largely if not entirely stock, and from the look of it I would agree with that. That is mostly what's being seized on right now. I don't know what that means about his intentions, and really, from the guessing and assumptions one way or another, it does not seem that anyone else does either. I guess we'll find out.

Was he circuit bending? Was he simply putting an old clock in a new case? Did he fix it? Was he trying to provoke a reaction? Time will tell. I'll leave the speculation alone, because it's getting pretty ugly.

it is interesting to see how this is playing out.this poor kid is getting used to promote narratives for people who really do not care about this kid,and it appears..he may not even have invented anything.

he probably just did this to impress his teacher and..wow..did things get out of hand fast.

on the one hand you have an authoritarian state who is petrified of brown people pissing themselves, and on the other you have people using this for political expediency to further a narrative.

and all ahmed wanted to do was impress his engineering teacher.(my assumption)

Overview of circuit bending

westy says...

some of these people talk bs and are up there ass in realty whats cool about circuit bending is the fact that u can get a random and unexpected result that sounds cool without having to put together a structured and well thought out methodology.
This is due to the devices having an initial structured sound pattern ore organisation that was originally intended by the manufacturer when the sercet bender messes with the item it simply shifts this sound creating a variating of sound based of the original that was intended additionally this is probably why people interpret this as sycodelick as you could see this as a metaphor for when one is taking sicoactive drugs that skew ones interpretation of realty the process is very Mitch similar with the new interpretation of realty mealy bing slightly skewed versioin of realty.

if you were to try and intently end up with an output all u have done is make a standard instrument . in affect all modern syths can produce these same sounds u make from circuit bending only it would require sum one with an ability to predict and create an intended output to use it. where as circuit bending requires more of a element of play with no specific goal with no real methodology as to how you should play these sound producing devices. if you really wanted to you can do this with traditional instrument's. so i wud say that what circuit bending alludes to is more of a methodology for producing sound rather than a specific entity in itself

Brian Transeau's This Binary Universe Trailer

bizinichi says...

-> From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Binary_Universe

This Binary Universe is the fifth album by composer and electronica artist Brian Transeau (BT) released on August 29, 2006.

This work was composed and produced by BT specifically for 5.1. The CD is packaged with a DVD featuring all the compositions of the album in DTS 5.1 surround sound and features films by a collection of computer artists and animators.

The album makes extensive usage of a technique called circuit bending, often intentionally miswiring and short-circuiting keyboards, children's toys, and even Furbys to achieve a completely random sequence of sounds that is then time-corrected to keep the rhythm and beat of the song.

Oh and BT also has a deviantart page: http://bt011010.deviantart.com/
