We finally watched the pilot yesterday. Now, don't get me wrong, the early trailer did look absolutely terrible, so both of us did go in with less-than-low expectations, but the end result was very quite satisfying to say the least.

I expected it to be soapy - it wasn't (apparently, the 'family' in "family drama" stands for 'family vs family', not as in 'drama for the whole family' - at least that's what all the boobs 30 seconds in told me). I expected to see sub-par CGI (yes, there really was CGI, lots of it, actually) - it ranged from average to BSG-quality. I expected for the story to go out of canon, to abandon the roots entirely or to come up with some absurd revelations; instead there were LOTS of references to BSG and the story for the series was set out nicely and it all seemed very logical.

Pretty much the only thing I didn't like/found awkward was their portrayal of racism and the different cultures among the colonies. Also, I think it's fair to say there won't be as much CGI further on in the series. Otherwise though, I'd really suggest people to watch the pilot.

If the existence of deities in a fictional universe/mythology offends you (the ambiguous confirmation of which seems to be the biggest gripe with the way BSG ended among sifters), you're no better than all the monotheists that you pick on by pointing out how fragile their beliefs must be for them to protect their dogma the way they do.

I will give it a go after It's had a few non canceled seasons, I hate falling in love only to have my heart broken. BSG didn't turn out to be as smart as I would have liked either in terms of the overall story arch, but it actually HAD an ending, which is more than almost any other show ever has and the overwhelmingly awesome individual episodes that were really quite common makes me think Caprica and anything else this team welds together will be just as unmissable.

I have boycotted it. I refuse to get fooled by another beautifully crafted dues ex machina. They burned their bridge with BSG.

Kara's vision lead her to leoban after outbreak of the cylon civil war, this lead to the destruction of the hub, which brought death to the cylons, not destruction, only death, mortality.

That ties up much better than what happens to her when they get to earth.

The whole "We screwed up with technology, so we should dispense with sterilization" thing is full bore stupid. Even the staunches technophobe understands that some basic knowledge about physics/medicine is worth having.

Yeah, forgot about Chief - he's a solid, if low-key performance. I just watched the episode where John Hodgman was the brain surgeon - that made me feel weird. How dare they bleed the two other things I love - Macs and the Daily Show - into my BSG! It's almost like they know their demographic. ;-)

I don't watch alot TV and when I do it's mostly football (soccer to you yanks). Lost is one of the few things I watch and one of the best shows on TV as far as fiction is concerned, can't beat a good docu tho.

Oh and this thread is about Battlestar Galactica. Funny thing is that alot of very different people told me that they enjoy this show. I just don't enjoy these shows that much. I do enjoy Scifi if it's good, but I'd much rather watch a movie. It's roughly two hours and has a beginning and an end. I don't like the whole deal with (multiple) sequels either. I think I'm gonna give it a go sooner or later, even tho I heard people are disappointed with the way they ended the show? Oh well, that was true for The Sporanos too, and I thought that ending was pretty good.

and i've never actually watched bsg so i can't give an opinion. i'm still getting through sopranos, just started the 3rd series, and i love it so much i'm having to slow down. i don't want to get to the end.

just remembered another good show: damages. just the 1st season. extremely gripping.

BSG Season 4 was very disappointing. In all actually. Just wait for the endless episodes that keep dragging onnnn and onnnn and onnnn....

Quite ironically, yes. BSG is one of such shows. I bet there are a few more, but yeah, naturally, most shows end after they've peaked.
