Mark Rober & Science Bob Prank Jimmy Kimmel

cloudballoon says...

I don't mind a bit of silliness, but the aftermath for this prank is just not worth it. I don't care about Kimmel, but his staff don't deserve the cleanup.

I mostly stick to Colbert, Meyer & British humour for my comedy fix now, it's more biting than just... loud.

Well then, I somehow, quite presciently, manage to miss all of the departments that are easily stereotyped by caustic British humour.

That was really my only motivation for getting a Master's in Peace and Conflict Studies - nobody knows what the hell it is.

Stephen Fry on American vs British Humor

Jinx says...

You don't have to be italian to make pasta, but its still italian food. Self-deprecation is undoubtably a very British trait. I'm not saying we have a monopoly on it, but we do it far more than anybody else and its fairly apparent in our comedy. The fact somebody like CK exists is just proof that the world is a lot smaller than it used to be. British comedy has been exported to the states, our cultures are mixing. Hell, I say trash instead of rubbish half the time so it doesn't surprise me that there are American comics with elements of "British" humour in their standup.

Maybe the analysis isn't spot on, but I think its a pretty good attempt.

I don't know about this... Think about the best American comic right now, Louis CK. His on-stage (and on-screen) persona almost exactly fits what Fry describes as the British archetype. And he's not alone: think about Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm, George Costanza in Seinfeld, Homer Simpson, even Lucille Ball.

On the flip side, British comedians like Russell Brand, Jimmy Carr and Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder (except for the first season) are more like Fry's description of American comedy. It seems to me that what Fry has done here is come up with a nice neat story about differing national character based on broad stereotypes rather than acute observation, turned that into a theory of comedy, and then cherry-picked examples that fit his theory without mentioning exceptions. It all sounds very impressive given his amazing facility with language and rhetoric, but it's not very good analysis.

Privates: The video game in vaginas, mouths and bottoms

Great concept that seems to be very poorly executed. 'Spunk', really, you're going to call it that... this looks like the base British humour at its worst.

You really could have come up with something pretty cool working in and around the body, but this looks to merely use it as a location for a bland run and shoot game. Pity.

Zero Punctuation Review: Assassin's Creed

17 votes, and no comments? Is everyone laughing too hard? Another top 15. Yippee! LOL@ the relationships reference. And the "Glaswegian style" dealie. OMFG, the eating thing... oh that was ... haaaa. Hee hee, the sun.

Maybe that's why no one can comment. You stop thinking and fall down in a fit of laughter. Another great review.

Zifnab, are you just stalking the Escapist and ready to pounce on the new releases the moment they hit?

BTW, who wants to call Yahtzee a valid rep of *British humour?

maybe, maybe not... its debatable really and very dependent upon a person's perspective, which is why I didn't go all crazy all over it and demand it be removed... I just personally, do not find it funny, and, as your tags point out, very much in bad taste, so am withholding my usual 'hey-thanks-for-submitting-this-to-my-channel-vote'.

In reply to this comment by MINK:
thanks for the comment anyway. i am not surprised it has been discarded before.

but is it a british humour thing maybe? i was surprised at the reaction from the audience, was it a family show or something? i think everything's fair game if you put some creativity into it. he didn't appear to be using the puppet as a proxy for his own racism, it's more like showing how stupid racism is and what it leads to.

am i being too soft about this?

ugh... I just can't bring myself to vote for this, sorry MINK.

How To Behave After Sex

The Songs (British Talk Post)

Zifnab says...

Well if it's a British group or artist then I think it merits being in this channel. If is is only vaguely related (say a British member of a mainly American band) then I don't think it merits inclusion in the channel. Iconic Brit groups like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Elton John, Genesis, Pet Shop Boys, The Police, Radiohead, and others deserve to be in the channel.

gorillaman has a great British Comedy playlist so I thought it was appropriate to broaden the scope of the channel.

'How to Survive a Robot Uprising' - Daniel H. Wilson [44:16]

yeah the book is really good actually. better to read it first, then watch this
the way it's written is really dry. maybe should be in the british humour section.
