Teachers Sabotage Don’t Say Gay Law By Following It

JiggaJonson says...

Teacher here. It's made-up-nonsense. I don't give a shit what gender or sexual orientation a kid is and im CERTAINLY not going to try to convince anyone to change anything about themselves.

That said, I'm going to acknowledge that gay/trans people exist in authorship and literature as it arises. You can't read someone like Whitman (Leaves of Grass, arguably America's greatest poet) and not come across references to sexuality either implicit or explicit. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45472/i-sing-the-body-electric

It becomes relevant in passages like this:

5
This is the female form,
A divine nimbus exhales from it from head to foot,
It attracts with fierce undeniable attraction,
I am drawn by its breath as if I were no more than a helpless vapor, all falls aside but myself and it,
Books, art, religion, time, the visible and solid earth, and what was expected of heaven or fear’d of hell, are now consumed,
Mad filaments, ungovernable shoots play out of it, the response likewise ungovernable,
Hair, bosom, hips, bend of legs, negligent falling hands all diffused, mine too diffused,
Ebb stung by the flow and flow stung by the ebb, love-flesh swelling and deliciously aching,
Limitless limpid jets of love hot and enormous, quivering jelly of love, white-blow and delirious juice,
Bridegroom night of love working surely and softly into the prostrate dawn,
Undulating into the willing and yielding day,
Lost in the cleave of the clasping and sweet-flesh’d day.

----------------------------------
Maybe a conversation like:

"'Love flesh swelling' like he's in love with some woman and they...he...?"

"Probably not, he didn't have any serious female relationships as far as I am aware."

"But the title is 'The female form'"

"Well, it's possible, but it's not likely the case that he was talking about himself being in love with a woman. This poem is in the text but he wrote many other pieces about he-himself falling into and out of love with various men and we have letters documenting those relationships with his male significant others. Although, I'm not sure what to call them because gay marriage would have been illegal at the time. He's likely writing the poem in a way where he appreciates the female form and sees men who are drawn to it like the way I appreciate watching bees act obsessively driven to the middle of flowers. I like watching Bees in action, but that doesn't mean I'm going all pollen crazy, still I appreciate it for what it is."
-------------------

This is an example of how discussion of sexuality would come up in my classroom as I imagine it. Note how I'm not trying to convince the kid I'm talking to to turn gay like it's a big game of rainbow-red-rover or something. Nevertheless, knowing the author's sexual preference in this instance informs our understanding of the piece.

My own personal theory?
The people railing against things like this are the same shitheads that can't be bothered to read ANYTHING and instead giggle and guffaw at "hurhurhurhur he hadd'a boner" where I get to live an early stage of Idocracy.

Also, I agree that the "funky stuff" shouldn't be just avoided altogether. For goodness sake, just let teachers have the difficult conversation that everyone is avoiding. Reminds me of when Peggy Hill was struggling to say "Penis" when she was assigned sex ed.

first, how prevalent are these gay symposiums?

been through several flights of kids and yet to hear of one elementary teacher leading a colloquy on homosexuality. very unlikely it's ever been a thing or was so mild or explained deftly it never became a thing.

and no doubt if there was, would have heard about it. case in point:

was asked, "what does 'funky stuff' in the song mean?"

"don't know sweetie. probably slang for 'love'. I'll look it up on the internet."

they listen and ask about EVERYTHING! no more Rick James on the ride home.

***come to think of it, probably wouldn't mind the help.***

How robots could end animal captivity in zoos & marine parks

newtboy says...

I'm so on board.
Real life Jurassic Park without the danger the robots might escape and breed.
Also, the opportunity for real ballers to buy a saber tooth tiger to roam around at parties off leash! Woo hoo!
I wanna ride a mastodon.
They could even replace big game hunting, just make them capable of reacting to being shot and boom, time hunts.
*quality possibilities to explore

Covid Vaccines: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

luxintenebris jokingly says...

great idea. was leaning more toward the Russian capsule in the leg via umbrella delivery system but probably easier to feint accidental shootings. nerf guns would be good cover.

heard they are working on nasal sprays for the vaccine. that'd make it easier. replace the mosquito fogger w/an idiot fogger.

the big-game idea has some merit.

too bad the 'net couldn't spread a lie that side effects of COVID were, suffers suddenly became more tolerate, caring, and gained greater public awareness. mass inoculations would be sponsored by the Heritage Foundation.

Looks like we'll have to start using tranquilizer guns with vaccine darts to reach herd immunity.

Never thought I'd be a gun advocate but, here I am. Better subscribe to GUNS & AMMO now.

Consent is actually easy to understand, yeah?

Oh yes, I'm quite aware of the fact that women in the U.S. (and other parts of the world as well) are programmed to be submissive and polite, to a fault. Smiling and saying 'No' is still no in my book, but there are plenty of idiots out there who don't really consider it a 'No' until she's macing you in the face and screaming it at the top of her lungs, anything less than that is still a maybe to them. But that is a problem with the conditioning of men, not women.
And for everyone's sake I hope that the instances of women falsely reporting rape is as rare as you say it is, because when that happens, it hurts everybody. For the record, I had a friend a few years back who was falsely accused by a woman he slept with, it never actually went into the legal system but she accused him personally.
I've heard the story of the woman held in to dorm room as well and it is an utter atrocity. But just as false accusations are probably rare, crimes of this magnitude are probably also the exception rather than the rule. Most rapes probably happen between two people who know each other, and everything happens behind closed doors so it becomes a big game of he said/she said, I don't envy the people who have to try and get to the truth in those situations.
I guess what I am concerned about is that with the weight of all those years of ignoring legitimate rape reports we will start falling all over ourselves to convict every guy at the merest hint of an accusation. And a guy who has been falsely accused/convicted of rape is every bit as much of a victim as a woman who has been raped.

In your scenario, he has an emphatic yes, yes, yes, I want to drink tea with you, he has done his due diligence.

Until we get less crazy around sex in this Puritan country, and even after, there will be mentally disturbed people who say yes and then say no.

But here's something you probably don't know. Women are conditioned to be polite. They are conditioned to be nice. They say no while smiling, and that is a definite mixed message. As someone "joked" already on this comment stream, what about the women who say no but really mean yes?

Ygritte from Game of Thrones - how strong is she really?

Chairman_woo says...

We know it's powerful enough to penetrate, fur &/or mail + a thick gambeson/doublet as most of the Nights watch wear (reference, any scene where she shoots a battle dressed crow such as end of season 4). Even allowing for heavy shafts and piercing tips that's still some serious power.

Well beyond your average 20-40lb target & small game hunting type bows. Even if it was primarily a hunting bow, the wildings frequently hunt big game like Elks so it makes sense that it'd be a relatively heavy draw.

Besides even if it was a relatively light warbow (60-80lbs or so lets say), that's still hardcore to the extreme to hold at full draw for more than a few seconds and not loose ones composure (my aim would probably start shaking after 3-4, my body after 10-20 tops).

(and I think 80-120lbs is probably more likely anyway)

Besides this all misses the real point underlying i.e. no one trained with a bow would be silly enough to waste so much energy holding at full draw. Half maybe, or just taking up the slack.

Doubly silly given John has no ranged weapon of his own here and she could probably draw and loose 2 or 3 arrows before he closed the distance if he tried.

Goes on my list of pet gripes with GOT alongside Daenerys "firing" catapults and the occasional sword "schwing" sound. (not that I don't love the show)

Of course, you don't know the draw of her bow. You can only speculate. In other words, you know nothing, Jon Snow.

Clueless Gamer: Mortal Kombat X - Marshawn Lynch Vs. Gronk

Being an old school MK player (I think I stopped at MK3 when SEGA Genesis was still a thing) I got that feeling too... I was wondering if they just dumbed down the game and let fatalities be a thing at the end of every match without knowing any button combos or if they looked them up and cut the scenes in. Either way I think their reactions to the gore are genuine and hilarious! Also I'm buying some Skittles for the big game!

jmd said:

as much as its funny as hell when people like these trash talk in their games.. but so much of this was a setup. Any MK player will tell you a) you don't pull off many special moves by button mashing, and b) It seemed like every match a fatality was pulled off. Unless fatalities are now mapped to one button, not a single one of them would have been able to pull it off in the time allotted. Also the scorpion fatality looked like 2 fatalities that they showed back to back.

Considering that conan has admitted that some of these reviews are purely promotional, so much of the actual game playing seemed pretty set up. I can't even tell if the skittles thing was a paid for spot.

These computers will save the world.
Big claim...they are a big game changer though.
They have more conventional processing power than a traditional CPU with registers the size of the count of all atoms in the known universe.

i.e. 64 bit CPU...has 64 bit registers....

Grand Theft Auto V - Trailer #2

Yogi says...

>> ^nomino:

It would be nice to see some actual game play, since that's what we'll be doing if we buy this game. Anyone can make fancy trailers and tell a story.

Yeah it would be nice, and that will come. Right now this is about hyping things up, which is what big games have to do to get a return on their investment.
