So…a state that denies climate change wants twenty billion of federal tax money (60 billion+ before its finished) to protect the tax exempt industry most responsible for climate change from the destruction is brings that they deny is real….all on taxpayer money, not a bit industry funded.

I grew up in Houston/Galveston. This is stupidity. There’s no way in hell they’ll ever stop hurricane flooding. The barriers would need to be 30 ft tall, not 5. They would also need to redirect numerous rivers that outflow through the coast, and find a way to remove unfathomable amounts of flood waters coming from land. I was there for Alicia, a relatively small hurricane in the 80’s, and all of Houston was 5 ft under water, with the bayous 40ft above their channels. That water flows into the Galveston area….behind these barriers.

This is a massive boondoggle that will never be built for dozens of reasons, but will still make numerous politicians and their families disgustingly rich, and may eventually partially protect some high value real estate, but never the entire coast. That’s today’s Texas. It bears noting, Texas is nearly $50 billion in debt with a crumbling electric grid, failing water system, no social services, and likely still $10 billion away from finishing their useless failed border fence….but plan to spend at least another $10 billion of state funds on this. How, exactly?

1. The windscreen blocks UV light.
2. A car isn't going to collapse on you.
3. The car has actual shock absorbers to absorb the ground shock.
4. The car isn't innately flammable and even has a thermal barrier in the paint, metal and insulation.

6. The car is mobile and can (to whatever degree roads are passable) get you out of danger.
7. The car has a trunk to hold containers of water safely (double-safely if they're inside an ice chest inside the trunk)
8. You can sleep in a car.
9. In any circumstance in which a car was destroyed by the blast/heat, you were fucked anyway.

He TRIED to defraud the election, repeatedly, by asking Republicans to “find” him thousands of fake votes and to invalidate millions of valid votes for Biden. He TRIED to defraud the election by pushing over 60 frivolous lawsuits designed to do nothing but destroy confidence in our election system, not because he believes it but because he knows he lost, and assumed some of his appointees would subvert democracy for him. He TRIED to defraud the election by sending fake electors with fake credentials and trying to get Pence to fraudulently certify them instead of the real electors, and he TRIED to send a well armed gun, spear, sword, knife, and bomb toting crowd to violently stop the certification and try to install him as dictator for life.
Each of these is an attempt to overthrow the duly elected government. Don’t you feel dumb for asking? Aren’t you embarrassed you need it explained?
He failed on all counts because he’s an incredibly dumb loser and so are his people….but he made plenty of effort trying to overthrow the government by force when he failed to defraud the election successfully.

Clearly 10000 violent rabid people…you now admit 1/5 of them, exactly 2050, were armed, (oddly specific, what do you know?) the true number is probably more…who couldn’t be stopped by the minimal police presence and severe restrictions on their response that existed (they eventually were stopped with deadly force, but they should have shot the entire crowd the moment they broke through barriers), and Trump refused to deploy more, to call out the national guard, or even tell people to leave….but when it’s BLM peacefully marching unarmed in front of the whitehouse in a public area he was able to deploy military forces without hesitation.

Investigating a murderous mob attacking congress doesn’t make sense to you. (It would if they were liberals). Nothing makes sense to you, that’s the problem with listening to Trump. Either he’s right, or reality is, and you like him better. You really, no kidding, not joking or being smarmy, need serious mental help. The prosecutors have been a major let down. This was a mob attack, everyone there should be charged with murdering a police officer, they were all part of that murder and the other 50+ attempted murders of police. To be consistent, they only need to file charges against the 10000 that went along with the 40 (and in reality there is mountains of evidence that there are hundreds that planned the attack, including Trump and his minions in congress that actively helped the terrorists during the attempted coup.) Those charges should clearly be treason and murder of a policeman at a minimum for anyone there. Anyone beyond the barriers was part of that mob, and knew it. Not one should ever see daylight again. Put one in front of me, they won’t.

I call for true patriots to find, publicly identify, and drive all these traitorous terrorists out of the country or 6 ft under. They are going to attack again, these minor tickets for attempting to overthrow the US government are invitations to try again. They do have codes, Florida actually has some of the strictest building codes in the country. The building was actually being worked on and updated to meet additional local hurricane codes at the time of the collapse.

Every state has to meet the codes established by the ICC or one of the organizations that existed separately before they merged. The only city to ignore these codes and go completely by their own code is Chicago.


At the municipal level, the city can add more building codes to meet specific local hazards or weather. Miami/Dade has very strict hurricane codes that need to be met.

I suspect that we will find that the fault in this lies with the building owner failing to meet code or maintenance updates in a timely manner, as well as the fact that the building experienced subsidence in the amount of 12 cm between 1993 and 1999. This is not that unusual in structures built on barrier islands and it ceased sinking in 1999.

A mate of mine used to work as a motorway construction guy and he said the hard shoulder is murder alley.

We ended up breaking down and having to stop on the hard shoulder in a minibus one time and he forced everyone to get out and get over the barrier while we waited.

It was quick, but I'm pretty sure 11:56 answers a question I'd had for years, but never actually bothered to look up. Every so often I'd see a parked highway dept vehicle with a big, fairly flat object lowered to a horizontal position behind it.
