Troll animation - Socks with Sandals

Ornthoron says...

I have never understood the ravenous opposition to socks with sandals. Sure, I agree that it's not very pretty, and I prefer to use my sandals barefooted. But unlike any other fashion statement, this is the only one I know that has a fundamentalist touch. People seem to take it as a personal affront if you so much as put on your sandals without removing your socks for 3 minutes while you take out the trash.

Tight rope walking across two pillars of stone.

Trancecoach says...

Yeah, that's pretty interesting. You should check out some reflexology.. shit is insane.

this video's interesting because the man's entire body is flexed. He must be limiting, or at least minimizing, any movement of his upper body so thoroughly that every muscle is taut. Can't imagine the kind of stress/workout that this generates, but he could just as easily get it 10 feet off the ground (though not nearly as scenic).

>> ^Enzoblue:

Quick something I learned about balance. Your feet and toes have a lot of movement that is very important for standing/walking balance obviously. The problem is that we wear shoes all the time. With years and years of limiting this movement in our feet, the neural brain maps of our feet tend to gell together into one blob. So much so that we eventually lose that movement and that's why you see old people moving their feet like they're useless stumps.
I remember back in the day they used to always hire native americans for high-rise construction work because they had an insane sense of balance. I always assumed it was some evolutionary trait, but I think now it's because they only wore shoes when they had to, like for school etc, and had great motion in their feet.
So if your balance sucks, start going barefoot. Your brain will reverse the trend and start recognizing the different parts of your feet again. I learned this from a neurology book about Edward Taub.
I also learned that the neural map of your feet is physically adjacent to the neural map of your genital area. This is why chicks dig the toe play. Science rules.

The importance of running technique

Angua1 says...

I think learning to run barefoot as a kid probably helps a lot of those African runners with technique.

I switched to barefoot running recently. I'm working on building up the callouses on my skin and do small distances with no shoes at all. Feels great, even in the street. I use Vibrams for longer runs. My joint pain has disappeared. Long story short, my running shoes were making me run badly. I don't hit my heel on the ground anymore, and I land with much more bend in my knee. My stride feels more fluid ... and I have to say a lot less bouncy. I still don't have the extension, but I'm working on that.

This NPR report has an interesting video comparing the stride of a runner who wears shoes and a runner who always ran without shoes. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123031997.

John Constantine Goes To Hell

Stormsinger says...

Finally got around to watching this film tonight. And all I can say is that I've finally found a comic-made-into-film that I really liked. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time, to be blunt.

I have to agree with Budzos, that's simply the best depiction of Hell I've ever seen.

Best character: Gabriel, definitely Gabriel. Satan was fantastic (I thought being barefoot was a particularly nice touch), but there were just so many twists on the popular conception of Gabriel that there was no comparison.

Probably the most moving, beautiful PSA I've ever seen

Re-enactment of half court shot prank goes awesomely wrong

blankfist says...

It looks like that kid was shooting on a Canon XL2. Those are expensive cameras. Obviously a rich white school. In my high school we were lucky to have textbooks printed in the same century and a working sink in home economics.... grumble grumble... walked up hill in the snow... grumble.... barefoot.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros live on Letterman

Xax says...

Yeah, I don't know if pretentious is the best word exactly. But the "neo hippy" look, barefoot dancing and jumping, cutesy, happy-go-lucky bullshit was just too nauseating for me.

If players get a 2 year ban for drug use, this should land him a life long ban from the sport (or any sport for that matter).

except maybe MMA.
not sure how effective his moves would be barefoot and without a running headstart... but would still be fun to watch this guy in a ring.

Horrible and Yet Wonderful Local Commercial

jacobrecker says...

yeah trust me everyone down here is like that. everyone talks with an unintelligible southern accent, drives a truck, wears overalls and walks around barefoot with a piece of hay hanging from the mouth. we all worship god on wednesdays and sundays, watch fox news and proudly display our confederate flags. we hate liberals, non-americans, homosexuals and anyone who is not white.

like xax said, it would be very easy for the average omniscient and infallible non-southerner to run circles around all of us. everyone knows that ignorance and racism simply disappear once you leave the south.

I love everything about her, her nature, and this performance. Barefoot, with that kimono type dress, looking sort of frumpy.. but just belting it out. My heart swelled with pride and joy for her, and she's so humble at the end as they gave her a standing ovation. I could really feel the love :} Amazing.

I like the guy's artwork. I know Adidas sponsored the video but since there's no products of any kind in the video I don't see how it's really viral. She's barefoot for Christ's sake! In brandless clothes - How's it an Adidas ad?!
