Converting Buses to Showers for the Homeless - San Francisco

shagen454 says...

Sweet... I don't want to be cold hearted but I will. This might be killing two birds with one stone. 1) being -private luxury crack smoking room. That's what's gonna happen... Maybe some showering... Doesn't matter to me though, the bums stink, the BART stinks, the whole downtown area of SF smells like a huge crack alcohol shit storm for being such an "affluent" city. I think this was well intended but I don't trust the "non-profits" around here especially in this "app" bubble. "Give me a huge grant because I have like the most astonishingly brilliant idea blah blah blah (pockets 25% of grant for outrageous rent costs)."

Man Lights 10K Sparklers on Fire for New Year and Result....

Mordhaus says...

I was incorrect, apparently when you group them together, they become far more sensitive to ignition.

"Sparkler bombs are constructed by binding together as many as 300 sparklers with tape, leaving one extended to use as a fuse. In 2008 three deaths were attributed to the devices, which can be ignited accidentally by heat or friction. Because they usually contain more than 50 milligrams of the same explosive powder found in firecrackers, they are illegal under U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) regulations."

Why the hell would you put that together in your house. One false move with a heat source and bye bye house.

bill burr- the worst i ever bombed story

Kind of reminds me of this band I was in a couple years back. We were booked to play this hipster library in L.A. (Yes, these things exist) and our band's singer/leader is stammering his intros and not playing to whatever crowd is actually there, the guitars are out of tune even though we spent hours preparing and tuning, and the drums are drowning out the rest of the instruments.

God, the acoustics in that place, and the look on the face of the person who booked us. Horror. Utter horror. I was wearing an Iron Maiden shirt with hair down to my tits, a look of insanity, me-against-the-world on my face.

Someone in the audience was like, "What the fuck is this shit?"

But I'm not Bill Burr and I' NOT in any mood to admit my faults, I just came back from 2 drinks over my limit at a bar around the corner, and I'm fucking done with hipsters. Suddenly our FOLK band goes into overdrive and becomes a punk band. I start smashing the drums with my sticks faster and faster, letting the rest of the band catch up, "Fuuuuuck you. You want some rock n' roll? Here's some fucking rock n' roll." Our singer is timid at first, but the guitarist is an anarchist and looks at me like, "YEAH! Let's do this!" Adrenaline and alcohol made it so I didn't even need to know what I was doing any more. We just played the same songs except faster and angrier.

People are disgusted by the sound and the entire place empties.

Later on as we're packing up, the guy I told to fuck off comes up to us with his pals and starts harassing us. Turns out, he was the guitarist of the band that was on before us. And everyone loved this guy. I stared at him and just said, "Fuck you." And he immediately replied, "No, fuck you!" I don't remember how many fucks were given but it was quite the juvenile display. We just packed up and left with "fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck" in our wake.

As we're walking to the van our band leader says, "Well, that went okay I think, you know given the circumstances, I think that showed off our energy."

I think there is a some truth to it being a gateway drug. But not in the sense that most people think of it. The reason I consider it a gateway drug is because once you start buying weed, you've begun to contact criminals and buy stuff from them. It makes it that much easier to now go a step further. You have the contacts, and you have already mentally accepted breaking the law. If you bought dope at the corner store like beer, the dope smoker would be no closer to harder drugs than the average teenager that buys beer.

However, to say that dope is a gateway drug on account of it's effects on the user makes no more sense than the same argument for alcohol.

How to Pass Your Next Science Project

newtboy jokingly says...

I'm not sure what he's talking about.
I got an 'A' on my 30 second science project...jug of fire. I took a glass jug, poured in some rubbing alcohol, and lit it on fire. The teacher liked it so much he gave me ether to try in it....I would not suggest repeating that experiment.

If not for schmawy I would have passed on by this site. Maybe I'd have been a digger or *shudder* a redditer. Oh wait, I am a redditer.

schmawy promoted the hell out of my first couple sifts and was like a combination bad cat / father figure to me. Weird combination, now that I reflect upon it... shine on, you crazy diamond. (Thanks for setting the mood, enoch.)

Highlight: I'll never forget the time he pooped in my bed.

Damn, I was feeling sentimental a month ago and posted on his profile... I feel really bummed out that he's gone. I really needed some words of wisdom or aloof cat behavior -- one or the other; didn't matter which. Listening to Pink Floyd and thinking about his death is making me cry a pool's worth. I have ZERO alcohol and weed in my house to make up for this sudden saddness. Maybe that's a good thing... I will remain sober in memory of shmawy!

"Death is but a door, time is but a window, I'll" -- oh wait, that's a quote by Vigo the Carpathian. Uuuhhhh...

I'm sure banning guns will be just as effective as banning drugs or alcohol or cigarettes or anything else that is in high demand. There's no way people would continue to obtain them illegally or find ways to circumvent the law if they desired them strongly enough. Nope, bans have been completely effective throughout the history of the U.S.

Wow, I really wonder what was going on in that woman's head.

Even the article didn't help very much; and it even brought up more questions related to her arrest/charges...

I wonder if the police had yet to have see this video to use as evidence against her and had no real idea as to what happened in the accident (as the witnesses may not have helped them very much in piecing everything together; it made me wonder if this driver of the video taken stayed around for the police or merely went on their merry way and uploaded this later in the day). So they charged her with DUI, but the tests came back inconclusive so they had to release her.

Because from watching this video I can think of at least three to four charges they could arrest her with. So I'm assuming as I mentioned above that they merely slapped her with DUI and hadn't seen this yet, so they hadn't charged her with anything else as of yet; otherwise she would still be arrested. So I imagine she will be getting picked back up pretty soon. I'd love to know what the real cause was.

I'm guessing it was one of two things: high as a kite or a medical condition; I'm not entirely sure that this would be an alcohol related issue. But I have seen drunk people do some very weird things before. This however looks like she didn't care about parking the car or she "thought" that she had. Then she went to the sidewalk for whatever reason that compelled her to get out in the first place; perhaps a delusion or psychotic event--or something akin to it.

Neat! I remember seeing one of these at a science fair when I was a wee tyke. If he'd put the radioactive metal in line with the plane of the alcohol vapour we'd have seen a full-length supernova of particles in the bubble chamber.

This Much Will Kill You

Guns with History

gwiz665 says...

I don't want guns banned, but I want them to be like in most other civilized countries where shootings, mass shootings and gun suicides are far less per capita. Severely controlled.

America has an obsession and even addiction to guns, which is shown in the people trying to blame everything else - @Mordhaus you say stuff like "incorrectly secured gun" as if the incorrectly secured somehow negates the gun part. If it was a incorrectly secured handgrenade, what then? Or an incorrectly secured machete?

I'm not saying you're a bad person at all (or tha other pro-gun people are), but this is what alcoholics or substance abusers do about their substance.

Alcohol: 65678
Drunk Driving: 22204
Drug Abuse: 16423
Prescription Drug Overdose: 9852

Gun related: 8,561

Dishonest use of numbers. the "gun related" tallys the number of people killed by gun violence ie people shot and killed intentionally by other people, it does not include suicide (about 20k dead a year) or accidental shootings (about 700 dead a year)

Secondly, lets look at these other causes of death: Lets see, all of these, except drunk driving, is people KILLING THEMSELVES, unintentionally. Theres a pretty big difference. Drunk driving is ILLEGAL, and nobody is arguing that it would be a good idea to have more of it. And you know, its not like we're trying to get more people killed by tobacco, for instance, in fact, lots of people are working on trying to lower the number of deaths from all these other things, but just because more people die from alcohol or tobacco use, ten to fifteen thousand murder by guns a year doesnt really count??

Secondly, people are on the whole not actually working to get guns BANNED, but to implement restrictions, perhaps in the same way owning and driving a car has its restrictions. Cars, you see, are not banned. But there are RESTRICTIONS. Does anyone feel there arent enough cars around?. No. But there are restrictions. You need a drivers license. you need to follow some traffic rules. Similar things could be implemented for guns. It would be a start.
Another place to start is gun CULTURE, which is probably the intent of this video, changing people minds about guns.

Heres a challenge to your statistics: The number of people SAVED by guns. We always hear of the elusive situation of a bad criminal breaking in to kill your family, but luckily dads an NRA member and chases the bad guy away with a trusty old gun. How often does shit like that ever actually happen?
