The Dolly Zoom: More Than A Cheap Trick

dannym3141 says...

This is not necessarily on topic, but good grief i never realised pictures of someone's face could look so different. The bit at 1:37 with the woman's face was a revelation! I didn't know that happened, and it kind of explains some pictures i've accidentally taken with forward facing cameras (and been horrified by). I always thought i must have good/bad days and look terrible sometimes, but that explains a lot.

In Thailand i had a picture taken on a tree-platform-zipline 80 feet in the air, sweaty, red, disheveled and sleepless... and it's the best picture i've ever seen of me, and my skin looked uniform and nice, not red and damp as it did in a mirror there. Sorry for off-topic, but how the feck does that work? It wasn't airbrushed or anything, they had very little time for processing. I feel like 50% of my mystery has been answered in that one moment of the video!

Did that guy get CHANGE back from the DOLLAR he used to buy that large Slurpee??!! Loved that people are chain smoking inside the store! Too bad they didn't get a shot of what I'm sure is bitching airbrushed art work on his buddy's van! A real blast from the past... those were the days.

How Advertisers Failed Women in 2012

EvilDeathBee says...

I have no problem with using sex to sell. Hey, it works. It gets our attention. The problem I have with "objectifying" women (and men) in advertisement these days, as @UsesProzac says, they're not real people. Airbrushed, photoshoped freaks of humans. It's become so ridiculous that it'd be comical if it wasn't so pathetic.

UsesProzac says...

I've never been one of the "ideals" of women, especially those presented here. Growing up, it hurt. Still hurts, sometimes. I'm five feet tall, I've always been muscular and squat. I was athletic in my teens which only compounded that musculature. I had a child with the predictable changes to my body. I never felt beautiful, how could I? Beauty is harshly defined for me, in almost every advert. If I don't look like what's being shown, I'm not worthy of wearing lingerie, being considered sexy or parading in front of a screen where others can see me.

I'm tired of seeing perfect, airbrushed specimens. I want to see someone I can relate to.

Vanity Wonder Exposes The Secret World Of Butt Injections

Xaielao says...

That woman is freakish.

However, butt injections, butt implants, are really common.. even amongst people who aren't stars or artists. Most the time when you see this model or star with a big butt, it's not naturally that big. You can learn to spot all the fake injections and implants pretty easily. Anymore when I see some model in a mag I see fake asses, airbrushed legs and stomach, fake tits, fake lips, eye color, eye lashes, eyebrows, foreheads, hair.. you name it.

You think it's not that bad? Cindie Crawford had a pretty famous quite from the 90's. 'I wish I looked like Cindie Crawford'. That was 20 years ago.. it's only gotten worse and more extreme.

A PC full of filth!

I'm not enjoying the trolling on the Sift. (Horrorshow Talk Post)

I'm well aware of the generational difference.

Your generation grew up with an access to porn and a visually sexualised culture that has never been experienced before. It is a world whose images have been managed, airbrushed, corporatized for ease of consumption. It has shaped your view of the world.

And actually, yes, when a man loves a woman just as she was created, I do admire him more. And he is rare, you're right. I find it incredibly sexy that he loves every part of the human body, without judgment, without reserve, without prudishness. No limits, no restraints, it is incredibly joyous and freeing.

You know who you are, if you are reading this. You are sexy, sexy men!

Sex is better without inhibitions, yes? These poor young women who are bleaching their anuses to match the porn shots -- when will they ever be perfect enough? They can never match those airbrushed fantasies. And can they really relax and enjoy themselves -- and you -- if they so worried about what they look like?

The Australian super model Elle MacPherson has said that she doesn't go to the beach, because she doesn't want to be compared to her photographs. She knows she doesn't look like them. A super model is insecure. This is really really sad.

By the way, I live in a small town that might be the last little enclave of hippies. There are a disproportionate number of women here with hairy legs and armpits.

You're right, though, even here they are the exception.

>> ^rottenseed:

It's dependent on age. Most people my age prefer heavily trimmed genitalia.
I'm sure the "men you admire" like when a woman shaves her legs and her pits right? Assuming the answer is yes, then that right there is modification from how bodies "evolved to be". If they like hairy pits and legs, then they're an exception to the rule, not the rule.

Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry on The 10 Commandments

BicycleRepairMan says...

>> ^Chaucer:
Neither one of them answered the damned question. They did a nice job skirting around it.

They tried, but the premise of the question is deeply flawed, she gives a flawed, cherrypicked and highly airbrushed version of the ten commandments and asks "whats so wrong about that?". Its like saying "Hitler was a vegetarian, so whats so wrong about him then?" Where could you start against such an idiotic question?

The fact is that these commandments were all given under threat of capital punishment, for things like "having other gods before me", swearing and being disobedient as children. And as Fry rightly points out, they seem to forget a whole lot, including slavery etc. In addition they do nothing in terms of providing rights for people, in fact they strip anyone who follows them of any rights at all, including free speech and free thought, and freedom of religion.

Australian Magazine Features 7ft Tall Model On Cover

Aniatario says...

>> ^Winstonfield_Pennypacker:
The girl on the left has to be about 5 foot nothing. I am impressed that the 7' girl managed to get that tall and still remain quite attractive. If there wasn't a short girl next to her, then there's nothing that would suggest that she wasn't a perfectly normal woman. The proportions aren't skeewompus. She's got it going on.
She's definitely not 'supermodel' level, but she's a solid 7 on a 10 point scale. In a lot of ways I prefer the 'average human' look as opposed to the silicon injected, airbrushed, tucked, pinched, taped, and botoxed look you get from a lot of models.

Amen brother.
