Quebec story on The young turks,Muslims stirring up trouble

burdturgler says...

So I was thinking, I don't see why this would go to a provincial level. Institute a basic dress policy as they have in business or in private even public schools. It is well within the schools/institutions right to have one. No I don't hate Muslims but I do religions; I 100 percent agree with the ideal that you accustom YOURSELF to the countries customs not the other way around.
burdturgler, you where a douche for pouncing on dudes g/f, she was referring what I said about Sikh knife, and it has everything to do with this story because it involves individual religious beliefs, if you are not up to speed on that story from a couple years back I can inform you of it.

This concept "that you accustom YOURSELF to the countries customs not the other way around" ... Does said country not include rights to religious freedom and the ability to worship and peacefully express those beliefs? Yes? It's sickening reading some of these posts. Is there some government mandate that says what business attire someone should wear? No. You 'hate religions', so you're a bigot and have no respect for other peoples rights. I'm a douche for "pouncing" on the knife thing? You're a douche for making it a part of this conversation. This video has nothing to do with that. A scarf is not a knife.

What To Do If Your Toyota Prius Accelerates Out Of Control

NetRunner says...

I wish they'd used an actual Prius in their "what to do" segment. You can't shift them into neutral while they're at speed. The car just beeps at you if you try it. Ditto for park and reverse.

The e-brake in a Prius is very much set up as a parking brake. You push the pedal in, and it locks in place. I wouldn't recommend that you try to use it to slow down at highway speeds (or hardly any speed at all).

I haven't tried it, but I don't think you can even shut off the ignition at speed, either.

I'm not sure why people act like the Prius is an especially slow car. It's the same as a normal 4-cylinder mid-size sedan. Not a rocket, but easily capable of hitting 100mph, getting up to speed on highway ramps, overtaking dickheads who're only going 75 in the left-hand lane...I can vouch for all those personally.

Yes, I own a Prius. I'm sure everyone's shocked.

So you start a pulse jet with a leaf blower?

Mostly yes, the idea behind most jets is to compress incoming air with fuel. No spark is needed as the compression causes heat. The problem is you need the air already moving to start. The same is true of turbofan engines of most jet airplanes. In my day they used electric motors to start the fan blade spinning. Once they are up to speed, they feed enough air fast enough into the combustion chambers to keep it going. A leave blower is a lot easier to add to a project then an electric motor. If you look up DIY jet engines in youtube, you will see it as the staple for home brew jet starters.
Jets are much more "simple" then combustion engines as they are mainly self sustaining when up to speed. They are very complex in other ways though, like how to not melt down under extreme heat and such. A flame out at low speed typically spells doom for a jet...engine restarts when careening downward is not as experience you want in life.
One thing I have never understood about a pulse jet is how to ramp your speed up. With a turbofan, you just up the fan speed or fan blade pitch...with a pulse just I have no idea. Add more fuel maybe? If that were the case, then the max speed would be dictated by the explosion maximum. If your explosion is to great, you risk vibration annihilation or destruction of your combustion chamber...or you spit the hot air out the back end before the pulse can bring it back for re-ignition? Or perhaps it has to do with pulse modulation and changing how long you wait till your open the valve. The longer you wait, the more thrust you get before the next cycle? Dunno, pulse jets were always more of a curiosity than an area of study.
Edit: Jets are very similar to diesel engine as there is no spark needed...all the heat is gained through compression. Hope that isn't TMI at this point

Though your knowledge of jets is impressive. Let's really try to stomp this sign of the internet generation out, shall we?! Who's with me!?

Obama's speech on "economic crisis" is a vile concoction (Worldaffairs Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

I've only read the first two pages, and already I see things the Bush administration would've never proposed. A new regulatory authority? Closing tax loopholes? Talking up fiscal stimulus in coordination with ferigners? Bush would've vetoed the lot.

TARP wasn't about kicking the economy up to speed, it was about stopping the financial sector from being utterly destroyed, and it was structured poorly (ethically speaking).

I'm not hopeful about what kind of regulatory framework Obama will be able to put in place either, but I think you're overshooting the mark with your comments.

Your Opinion is Requested on a Court Case. (Politics Talk Post)

NordlichReiter says...

Let him rail against the system. Its about time some one stood up for what they think is right.

Do these radars keep a log? Timestamps and stuff like that?

If not the systems cannot be trusted, due to human error.

Would you rather this guy go and shoot a place up? Cause an insurrection? Conspire to incite a uprising? Or rather non violently present his 1st amendment right in the court of law.

Let me be the first to say, fuck you if you think he should hang. I care not whether he was guilty or not guilty. I care the tactic he used for making his statement known.

His statement will live forever in public record, of the court system, however swamped by the myriad of other court records. The system is set up to feed on the people. It feeds on the peoples toil, and exhaustive efforts to make something for themselves. Face it, the system is designed to fuck the people and take all of their hard earned rights. Know what makes it so godamned ironic? The people created the system!

As for speed limits, I object to a group of non peer reviewed opinions on what is safe and what is not. Until I can see peer reviewed scientific data to back up the speed limit. Then they are inherently corrupt. I would suspect, this is my opinion, that some one could make a case for the government trying to make revenue with the changing of the speeds.

Also, you should not have to stand if you do not. Simply say, I am exercising my 1st amendment right, which is freedom of expression, to not stand.

McCain Booed By Arizonans For Defending Obama

BoneyD says...

Instead of just pandering to their uninformed far-right base, they should've been helping educate them and bringing them up to speed with how change in the world won't break their way of life.

McCain can't be at all bitter about their reaction, he played a part in fertalising it.
