Wiimote theremin video: Set your phasers on 'totally awesome

Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy' On A Theremin - Awesome

I played a theremin (that same Moog theremin acutally) in a band concert once. They're hard to learn. It's so odd playing something that you don't touch. From my experience, if you play a string instrument, that's the best thing to know before playing theremin.

Funky stuff.

Man I love theremins. Something about their interface just makes me think "damn, that's pretty friggin' intuitive". I know that if I'm listening to a piece of music I really love I start to make conductor-like hand gestures in the air. These devices just add real sound to 'em!

Can't believe it can played so precisely? I'd think it has atom-level control of precision ;-P

Huh, I was about to have you up for spelling Theremin wrong (I always thought it was Theramin) 'til I saw the very end of the video.
Oh, swell post btw.

Dan Bau: Vietnamese Monochord Instrument

Theremins are analog already I know what you mean though, non-electronic.

It looks like an interesting instrument. Basically there is just one string, and it's plucked, and then the performer touches the string at various places along it's length to produce harmonics. The stick on the right side of the video is attached to the string, and you can increase or decrease tension, either to produce vibrato or to shift the pitch up or down (like a whammy bar on a guitar).

I wonder how hard it is to play.
