Stewart Nails GOP For Flip Flopping On Escrow Fund

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

I mean seriously, you literally snipped out the phrase "I'm sure there will be congressional oversight", and cut off the part where I said why I thought that

Sure. You said it, but have no proof it will happen so why belabor it? As with all piles of money in Washington, that 20 billion will get misappropriated and spent on unrelated crap with only token pennies on the dollar going to BP oil damages. Every citizen must view government as the ENEMY, because history proves that eventually it will be.

I know that leftists disagree with that stance... This poll proves only Democrat zombies are big gummint fanbois... Most other folks have a healthier point of view.

There's part of your fever dream I agree with -- namely, the rich and the powerful never get held accountable for anything.

Agreed. Guys like Barney Frank should be penniless street bums in the stocks at town square instead of still being in charge of the committee he used to screw up the economy.

Free speech zones, dissent = sedition, opposition = traitors, with us or against us…

I am not a slave to a political ideology. I don’t apologize for people when they do the wrong things. So I I freely and openly condemn(ed) the tactics the GOP used during Bush to stifle dissent. Will you do the same? Do you condemn people like Pelosi, Reed, Obama, Olbermann, Madcow, and all the others on the left who routinely mock, belittle, and censor Tea Partiers, call people “Nazis”, and the “party of No” for no reason but to grease the skids of their agenda? Thankfully, I am not bound with such fetters. Boo - hiss to 'free speech zones' no matter what party is behind them.

We need the Fairness Doctrine, badly. The rightwing dominance of the media has had a disastrous effect on our country's welfare. Rupert Murdoch has done incalculable harm, just to make a buck.

No – we don’t need any government regulation of media. The marketplace of ideas is a grand collision – and viewpoints of all kinds are available everywhere without government interference. The Right may dominate talk radio, but the left dominates most other media with an iron fist. Hollywood, CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, the NYT, AP, PBS, tv shows, pop music, and the vast majority of news channels, newspapers, and internet blogs either tilt left or are outright left wing extremists.

So does your opinion of the “Fairness Doctrine” include forcing all these left wing radicals to give conservative views ‘equal time’ in all media venues? Or do you only care about talk radio because it says things you don't like sometimes? See how your support of such a concept leads only to tyranny and abuse? The whole FD concept is an attempt by neolibs to break down one of the few areas where they don't dominate. Rather than cheer it on, it should totally creep you out and outrage you.

You righties always get your panties in a wad when you can't insult broad swaths of the population with derogatory racial and sexist remarks.

No – we get annoyed when sanctimonious lefties use political correctness to stifle dissent. I don’t insult minorities or make racist/sexist comments. And yet here you are, accusing me personally of being a racist and a sexist based on no evidence. Funny how you are using Political Correctness to stifle dissent, isn’t it? Gee – it’s almost like I was EXACTLY RIGHT! Thanks for proving my point. Sadly you aren't alone. This kind of crap is commonplace from the left on campuses, in public schools, on news, in the media, in entertainment, and in politics. Ried, Pelosi, and more commentators I can count have all used the same tactic. Shame on you all.

BP committed a crime, the kind of crime that they could (and probably will) try to weasel out of with legalities.

If they commit a crime, you take them to court. You don’t have the Executive Branch create a private slush fund. If they violated the law, then punish them with the law. Don’t make up crap from the Oval Office.

"The only ‘silencing of dissent’ is on the left side of the aisle. And how nice it all sounds… ‘Net Neutrality’, the ‘Fairness Doctrine’, ‘Political Correctness’, ‘Academic Fairness’… The left is the side that engages in the systematic suppression of dissent – not the right."

@Winstonfield_Pennypacker, you are almost as disingenuous and conniving as QM.

It was the Bush administration who dreamed up the concept of "free speech zones" when they were ramping up for the Iraq war.

It is the rightwing who equates dissent with sedition.

It is the rightwing who calls people who stand against them traitors.

Remember? "You're either with us, or your with the terrorists."

We need the Fairness Doctrine, badly. The rightwing dominance of the media has had a disastrous effect on our country's welfare. Rupert Murdoch has done incalculable harm, just to make a buck.

A $20 billion "shakedown"? Ha! A shakedown is when you take money from people without doing anything for them other than, say, promising not to hurt them, arrest them, or destroy their property.

The damage this oil spill has done, and will do, will far exceed $20 billion dollars.

Obama should nationalize BP and toss a boatload of its executives in the hoosegow.

Obama's one fault in all of this is having been too patient with a group of people undeserving of that courtesy.

Highlights from Rand Paul's Victory Speech

NordlichReiter says...

He's got some good stuff, except for the whole global warming bit. The TEA party lost me a long time ago with their stupid fucking Tea bag hats.

Are there any classical Liberals left. I'm fairly certain that my views are not being properly represented; given that I'm Atheist.

Rand Paul, like Ron Paul and the rest of the politicians are nothing but shills for some corporate entity. I hardly see them as representing a group of people. The Tea party represents Rupert Murdoch and co. It's the new Neo-Conservative party.

I live in The Netherlands. Everytime I'm on Videosift, I get a sense of how bad it must be to be an American.
I see some great entertaiment with all the late night shows, but I feel bad for all of you who have to live in a country that has so many people taking everything said at Fox "News" ("Gossip" might be more appropriate) so seriously..
It seriously makes me said and makes me believe Amerika is not the land of opportunities; it's a land where people with a lot of money tell other people what think.

There's another problem with America Avokineok, as evidenced on this site and that is;

Those who lambaste Rupert Murdoch's abortion, fail to see that they are equally as distracted and led like apes by the other worthless news cunts churning out issue after issue, or other complete scat disguised as something you should have an opinion about. They can;t help it, they have been bred to go for this team or that one, one camp or the other, and are to overworked and indoctrinated to care about the world of the real.

Endless mind-numbing editorials on issues which be merely symptoms of the beast, the emperor with no clothes or skin, for that matter.....The United States will fall in lock-step not unlike the UK did when she was welcomed into the EU against the will of the people, and by mandate of her cunt royal family, god-damned empire-building elitist scumbag fucks that they are. Kill them all, scatter their children's ashes on the dung heap of history.

There is no news-only mind control and endless editorial on the same, to give people the illusion that they have a fucking clue about how the world is run.....liberals are pussies, and conservatives, assholes.

Me, I'm a dick.

That's my 10 cents, praise BOB, Hail Eris, Do What Thou Wilt.

Do you think that Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes concern themselves with affiliates?
I dated a girl who worked as a reporter and weekend anchor at a Fox affiliate station for a couple years. The station manager had complete creative freedom.

There's a pretty big difference between Fox News Channel the the affiliates?
If the Death Star had affiliate Death Stars, is it somehow different to work on one of the affiliates? They all take their marching orders from the same folks…

It's because Fox news sucks WP. In comparison, the other news sources don't seem to suck as much
I suggest that is because you aren't looking at them critically because you like what they are saying and so you've chosen to put your blinders on. Since Fox's bias is one you DISlike then you are hyper-sensitive to it, and you choose at that point to take the blinders off.

Any bias is bad in the news (ideally). I dont think that it's just that I don't disagree with the bias, just that it's SO BLATANT.

EXACTLY!
the fourth estate is a failed institution, brought to all of us in part by the machinations of one michael powell, head of the FCC in 1993,and media conglomerates wanting to monopolize ALL media.
ruper murdoch is only ONE in a small group of FIVE that own ALL of american media.
that is one mighty big bullhorn, one which i choose to not listen to.

what i find ironic in mr pennypackers comments is this:
he states that he does not buy into the polemic(us vs them)and then uses a POLEMIC to make his case against the so-called "neo-libs"(really mr pennypacker, look the definition up please)on videosift.
hypocrisy? you betcha...

i do wholeheartedly agree that there is an US vs THEM,but not in the way the corporate media likes to portray it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative
on one side,and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_liberalism
on the other.
this is a media created polemic,a falsely created juxtposition that does not have the inherent divisiveness that we have been forced to accept over the years.
the real US is the average person, doing there best to survive in a seemingly more volatile world.most of US dont have time to vette every story we see on the news.this is a basic fundamental question of trust:do we "trust" corporate news?
answer:no..we dont.they as an institution have failed to instill the necessary ingredients for trust.at one time they did,but in the late 70's news went from "non-profit" to "profit",and since we have seen a devolution of news quality and veracity.thats why we see 24 hr coverage of anna nicoles death and not more pertinent news pieces.we are partly to blame for this digression.
THEM are those who seek to gain profit and political influence by manipulating the masses.FOX news is the most egregious benefactors of this type of malfeasance, led by one rupert murdoch.while not alone in media machinations, they are by far the worst offenders.

whenever i see comments about corporate media i think of this short video,if you have not seen,or read noam chomsky's "manufacturing consent" watch this vid.it states quite well my thoughts:

Fox News: Not Awesome at Pronouncing Things

kagenin says...

I've been to Schiphol. It's a pretty cool airport. It's also not a hard word to pronounce, or (DUH!) look up how to pronounce before you make yourself look like a moron on national television (you know, like real journalists do...). I also got to see Charles de Gaulle (pronounced "Sharl duh GALL" if you work for Fox) a year before that big collapse happened (French engineering... lolz), but that place smelled like a goddamn ash tray.

Then again, the closest airport to where I live is the completely misnamed Sacramento International (there is no international service to/from Sacramento). The luggage art installation is about the only cool thing to see.

Fox is proving more and more everyday to us that they are just as professional as your average Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid.

This is as ethnocentric as news gets.

100 days of "Fair & Balanced"

GuyIncognito says...

Yes, we all know how "Fair & Balanced" Fox News is. Question though.

How many of you watch the Fox Broadasting Corporation? You know, crap like House and 24... How many of you saw The Simpsons Movie in theatres?

See folks, your eyes are worth advertising dollars. The same man who profits from Fox News, also profits from the fucking shit you people eat up. Right?

That's the thing that bothers here. Right after you rag on Fox News, you fucking upvote Jack Bauer. Or you sit your fat ass down and watch American Idol. Don't you see how ridiculous that is? You despise Fox News, but gladly fork your money (your eyes) over to the man who is responsible for this disgusting farce.

If you hate what Fox News has done to your democracy, hate the deception and lies, take a fucking stand against the people who run the network. Take a stand against Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. Write letters to the companies advertising with them. Tell them you won't purchase their products because you don't want your money to fund that propaganda machine. Don't fucking watch that new Twentieth Century Fox Film. Until you make that small sacrifice, YOU ARE ALL FUCKING PATHETIC HYPOCRITES.

Crowd Chants "F*ck FOX News!" live on FOX News!

kceaton1 says...

I'm going to go out on a separate limb here (I know months old). The chant was most likely started by someone who watched FNC and perhaps like minded friends nearby. They exercised their free speech and the message was that FNC had been perceived to them as a lameduck-mouthpiece; FNC was trying to cover tabloid aliens/e.t.s as they premeditatedly sought/saw the protesters as; the nonnatives responded to the xenophobes: FUCK FAUX NEWS.
