There is No God at CPAC

Babymech says...

Um... a panacea does actually cure a condition (actually, all conditions). Are you thinking of placebo? Opiate? Paxil? Panodil? Pandaxodil?

I'd offer you the common courtesy of letting you have your beliefs which I do not share, but you're an arrogant and rude ass, so I'll conclude that if religion is the panacea for the ignorant, you're their poster child... ; )

LSD In 3 Minutes

Trancecoach says...

That sounds a whole lot like some kind of absurd "Reefer Madness" kind of "thinking."

On what are you basing that "feeling?" Leaving aside that serotonin is involved with mood (and not meaning or motivation) and that LSD's binding to the receptor sites increases not decreases the amount of serotonin available in the synaptic cleft (performing the same effect as any other SSRI like Zoloft, Paxil, or Prozac), there is actually no reason why any of the hundreds of successful professionals that I know who have taken LSD multiple times would express such a feeling on the basis of taking LSD.

If anything, your comment reveals a fear of your own mind and, having read your comments, I can't say I blame you.

Is the lack of serotonin what gives the user the "Urgh, what am I doing with my life? I need to get my shit together!" feeling ?

So what will they call Happy Meals™ now?

They certainly will not be happy anymore... Maybe they can just do the typical government response and put some Paxil™ in the "Happy" Meal™:

(Warning: Going off your "Happy Meal™" without McDonald's Pfizer's Happy's Department's explicit recommendation can cause: angry faces, cursing, unwanted eating, text messaging, loss of an "American Dream", liking Hip-Hop past your 18th birthday, suicide, school shootings, and neo-republicanism. )

anti-psychotic meds prescribed for children

peggedbea says...

i've been bitching about this for years. my exhusband has a very real psychiatric disorder, but in the years we sought treatment he was over medicated over medicated over medicated, which only turned a sick man into a monster. we were spending over $1000/month on his meds, with health insurance. he had siezures, hallucinations, cried uncontrollably, lost his sex drive, lost the ability to feel love, lost his hair, gained or lost weight rapidly, had the shakes, and visual disturbances (very dangerous considering he was an electrician and a welder and built massive cranes for a living) etc. when i questioned the doc i literally got yelled at and called names. (we switched docs after that one of course) but its more of the same, none of them really know what to do and pharmacuetical kick backs are sweet! he was admitted to the psych hospital on several occasions, but on this one in particular, they admitted because he was so severely over medicated they needed to ween him off all that shit, then discharged him 3 weeks later with prescriptions for xanax, klonipin, wellbutrin, paxil, seroquel, and risperdal, WTF? its fucking sick. and in the end he chose to be unmedicated rather than go through that anymore.
now he lives under a bridge self medicates with meth and booze and gets beat up in homeless shelters.

my biggest fear for my kids is that they will inherit this shit, its coming at them from both gene pools. im even more terrified that i will either freak out at the first sign of mental instablity and rush to have them evaluated and medicated, or be so scared of diagnosing them of something they dont have, that i will ignore the warning signs until its too late.

its a scary balance.

Ex-Pharmaceutical Rep. Speaks Out

betamaxx says...

eric - did you say that you were taking low doses of paxil given to you by a friend?! if the answer is that yes you are taking unprescribed paxil, you MUST see a psychiatrist and take the medication with proper monitoring. SSRIs, and all the rest (beloved lithium) are NOT recreational drugs. you heard it, the affects can be seriously toxic to your system, in addition you need to have blood drawn regularly to make sure that your internal organs are not shutting down. the bottom line is NEVER EVER EVER take this stuff unless its prescribed for you (after you have a full work up and diagnosis). Never miss a psychiatry appointment, never miss an appointment for blood to be drawn, and take the medication as part of a routine. these drugs are serious business in addition to being big business. be careful and listen to your gut. meditation and yoga are medicinally recognized as being healing both mentally and physically. so if you are seriously distrustful of "pusher" type of doctor, or are lucky enough to live in the US without insurance give yoga and meditation a serious chance. the end.

I am currently taking low dosages of Paxil. In my case, its been a lifesaver. I wont go into details, but i had anxiety that had incapacitated me. A friend gave me his prescription of Paxil. Within a day or two the anxiety had disappeared. What it has done for me has been amazing. It seems that it is quite difficult to know which treatment, or drug might work for any one individual. I have spoke with many people whom have said, these drugs have given them a new life.

Marc Emery speaks about his Extradition to the USA

Irishman says...

Gordon Brown, the new British PM has said on the record that he wants to extradite drug dealers from the UK. Canada and the UK are importing these disasterous US drugs laws.

These drug laws are more harmful than all the drugs you can imagine added together and multiplied by the first number you can think of.

Government definition of what constitutes a 'drug' is extraordinarily broad and not based in reality. When a drug is listed illegal, it is defined in law as having no medicinal or pharmaceutical value - and no research can be done on a listed drug.

Psychedelics are not drugs. Marijuana is the oldest medicine known to mankind.

LSD was used during the 60s to treat alcoholism with a success rate in the high 90%s - this essentially makes it a CURE for alcoholism.

MDMA has been used in psychotherapy to treat post-traumatic stress disorder with a success rate in the high 90%s - this essentially makes it a CURE for traumatic stress. American soldiers are starting to receive this treatment.

Pharmaceutical companies aren't interested in cures.

Antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Paxil CR, Effexor, Remeron, and Serzone DOUBLE the suicide risk in young adults.

This is a HUGE political issue. For god's sake it's the 21st century and it's about damn time people started to waken the fuck up.

Withdrawal from anti-depressants

codenazi says...

you're lucky, Roofles. It seems to vary a lot from person to person.

One thing that gets me about these things is they do have useful, good effects, but the random horrible side effects make them rather questionable.

Oh... one thing I just remembered, for the physics buffs around here: paxil apparently has the problem of being a disappearing polymorph, where the introduction of the hemihydrate form converted all of the older anhydrous forms, Ice-9 style.

The scientist in me worries about what other permanent changes happened to the brain (or other things) from these drugs. Kindof like how mad cow/CJD catalyzes a protein to convert out of a an astable-minimum. That would be a rather new and frightening idea in drug research/use...
