Porn Actress Mercedes Carrera LOSES IT With Modern Feminists

00Scud00 says...

Well, even if you did say they were toxic I'd have agreed with you, like others here have said any reasonable comments made would have been buried under a metric fuckton of bullshit anyhow.

I think there is a misunderstanding here however, when GenjiKilpatrick and others are talking about Sarkeesian "being called on her shit" they mean the reasoned criticism, not the threats, nobody here is arguing in favor of that.
I am curious though, unless you know something about these threats that I don't, how do you know that they are in fact "Serious"? Most people can dream up all kinds of crazy shit or even talk about it, but that still doesn't put you into Dexter Morgan territory (Dexter would be too polite to say anything like that anyhow, and Sarkeesian doesn't fit Harry's Code).
If you are referring to the UCU lecture that she cancelled, then no, neither campus security nor the FBI advised her against going through with the appearance, she made that choice on her own.

You also say "It's unseemly to imply a single woman should ignore such threats or assume they are not credible", which makes me wonder if this was a man we were talking about would you still feel the same way? Adam Orth received death threats to both himself and his family and while it did create a lot of discussion, even heated discussion, it did not generate the same kind of mass outrage that this has so far. Gabe Newell also got a threat from a developer some time back and that got barely a peep out of anyone.
Simply put, we still live in a society that puts on a good public show of equality for men and women, but privately we still teach our little boys that men are still the true protectors of our society. We don't get as upset when men face danger because that is what we expect of them, and this kind of deeply embedded cultural belief is the real heart of sexism in our society. This debate over the role of women in video games is all superficial because I believe it comes from those much older beliefs.

I never said "youtube comments are toxic".

Once again, since it's not sinking in, getting serious repeated detailed death and rape threats is not "being called on her shit", and your insistence on calling it that gets you distain and incredibility from my camp.

She disabled comments and ratings and canceled appearances on the advice of the police/FBI, from what I recall reading back then.

You seem to think death and rape threats are faux-excuses and not serious. I'll hope you never have to find out differently, but many people have. It's unseemly to imply a single woman should ignore such threats or assume they are not credible, and does not make you look good in my eyes.

The Search for General Tso (2015) Trailer

AeroMechanical says...

I always believed he was a Formosan general in the early Cold War years, respected by mid 20th century Chinese immigrants for fighting against the communists in the Chinese Civil War. This is probably another one of the myths I've lived my life with because I randomly asked my dad a question and, not knowing, he just made up an answer.

Of course, now that I think about it, Daldain surely nailed it with the relationship to The Colonel, rather like Admiral Nelson's rum is to Captain Morgan's.

@AeroMechanical, actually I'm with you. I seriously doubt the Foundation stories would work on film or even in a long form mini series.

The problem with a lot of sci-fi literature is that it doesn't conform to the standard 3 act movie structure. There's often an ambiguous ending which doesn't neatly resolve (like real life!). Asimov, Clarke, Banks, Reynolds, Morgan (to name a few of my favourites) fit this pattern.

There are two things happening, IMO:
1. The journey really is more important than the destination. It's about the story, not the outcome.
2. In some cases, story above character (Asimov and Clarke in particular). The idea is more important than the puny humans caught up in it.

Both of these are hard for studio execs (and to be fair, mainstream audiences) to grasp.

Russell Brand to Jon Snow; "Listen you, Let me Talk"

chingalera says...

Yeah, yeah, yeah, blah blah blah. His social commentary works much better than his comedy schtick and this interviewer is a scripted, sell-out cunt. Listen to the fucking words being said, A-ten anis and the opinion not unlike the asshole common to all is but another rusty pore at the end of a shit-snake.

Finally, another interviewer who has attended the Piers Morgan institute of wanking cunts. He's a fucking tool with an agenda designed to keep slave-robots in their stupor. Period.

Finally, an interviewer shows what an incredibly naive, vainglorious, empty headed moron Brand is.

Lucy TRAILER 1 (2014) - Luc Besson, Scarlett Johansson Movie

Deano says...

I think Luc Besson is amazing but god this looks like shit. The 10% nonsense is the main thing but the unimaginative casting is the nail in the coffin. Johansson is wooden and Morgan "dial it in" Freeman isn't much better. There should be some sort of law that prevents him from playing the avuncular professor type in every bloody film.

SDGundamX says...

I can totally understand where Morgan is coming from about the guns thing. I live in Japan now which has very strict gun laws. Virtually no one here owns a handgun personally. Cops are issued one for their jobs but never use them (it would be national news if a cop discharged a firearm in the line of duty). People who do legally own guns (mostly shotguns and rifles) have a legitimate need for one--they live in rural areas and stand a good chance of encountering bears or other dangerous wildlife.

As I understand it, England is very similar (even stricter--their cops don't normally carry guns). So coming from those kinds of cultures, America's gun culture seems completely bizarre. Japanese people find it baffling that anyone living in a first-world country would want to--let alone "need" to--own a handgun unless they were actively engaged in criminal activity. I'm sure Morgan feels something similar.

Personally, I admire Switzerland's approach to gun control--the military trains virtually everyone in how to safely use firearms and has them keep a government-issued military weapon in their home (but without ammo--in the event of an invasion or mobilization of the militia you have to report for duty to be issued ammo). What you get then is a population that respects and knows how to use firearms and therefore enthusiastically uses them for both sports and recreation but rarely for crime--Switzerland has one of the lowest gun murder rates in the world.

ChaosEngine says...

@My_design guns are dangerous tools. A little regulation really isn't that unreasonable.

No one really believes that firearms should be completely unregulated (unless you feel you have a right to a nuclear bomb?), so you've already accepted in principle the concept of some gun control.

And while I applaud Morgan for at least highlighting the issue, it doesn't change the fact that he's an awful human being.
