Arizona House Expels Republican Member

luxintenebris jokingly says...

just to give some perspective...on how today's GOP is...compared to how it was...

RE: Senate Robert Packwood's expulsion

"At one point, the Ethics Committee had to get full Senate approval to seek a court order to enforce a subpoena for a voluminous diary kept by Packwood during his time in the Senate...Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who is now the Senate majority leader, delivered a speech on the Senate floor in 1993, arguing for enforcement of the subpoena.

"Are we up to the job?," McConnell asked rhetorically, though it was an open question at the time. "Can we through the instrument of the Ethics Committee impartially and thoroughly investigate incidences of misconduct by our colleagues and will we give the committee the authority it needs to get the job done right?"

https://www.npr.org/2017/11/27/566096392/when-bob-packwood-was-nearly-expelled-from-the-senate-for-sexual-misconduct

but it seems worse today.

after seeing the evidence against NJ Sen. Bob Menendez, it seems that the U S Senate, in general, on being held to the highest standards - those standards aren't being held. or even attempted anymore.

Any wonder the Capitol, Congress, or SCOTUS is viewed contemptuously - not just for the obvious slandering politics - but for the glaring ethics violations?

Would have added the Presidency, but that's gone UP in recent years. 91 counts versus nil (which could be part of his campaign).

anyway...found M.C.'s speech smirk-inducing.

Beau with an interesting take on the Mitch thing

I absolutely agree with supporting any impediments to more MAGA, I just disagree that Mitch is any impediment. He says the right thing now and then, but he NEVER actually opposes MAGA when it’s time to act.

All true and you are on point with your assesment of McConnell's record and his contribution to our current political situation. I think that Mitch does recognise the danger that Mr T represents to the Republican party in general though and appreciate McConnell's somewhat self centered concerns. I think Beau, as do I, welcomes any impediment to T's re-election via Republican leaders as a positive. "The enemy of my enemy..." etc

Trying to say Mitch is some bulwark against MAGA insanity!?…I think he hasn’t been paying attention for the last 15 years.
Mitch was the one who stole Obama’s Supreme Court appointment and ended RvW.
Mitch was a vote for MAGA, a total Trump supporter.
Mitch voted against impeachment for Jan 6 despite stating Trump WAS responsible. Wasn’t he the one who said to just wait 12 days until he’s out of office and we’ll impeach him for certain, then said he’s already out of office so you can’t impeach him now?
He might SOUND a tiny bit more sane (when he’s capable of speaking), but his votes are as extreme as anyone, and his leadership has led the Republican Party into the insane asylum.
I don’t know why he just assumes any replacement would be more extreme with the same or greater ability to achieve their extremist agenda…it’s more likely they’ll elect another Boebert who’s bombastic but unqualified and ineffectual.

Yeah, too disturbed to consider turning Mitch on so he can get an election…but I am reminded of my shirt…
“If I’m ever on life support unplug me….
Then plug me back in and see if that works”

Have they tried turning him off and on again?

... or does the idea of turning Mitch McConnell on just disturb everyone waaaaay too much?

For what it's worth, the problem with age limits is that they can be used against perfectly competent and fully functioning people. There's supposed to be a process to remove the incompetent, but that's called elections, and it seems to be more broken than Mitch McConnell.

(If my second comment didn't put you off, feel free to make your own joke about Mitch getting an election here)

More Russia Russia Russia convictions. Just guessing but I think we are into the high 40’s of Trump officials convicted for collusion, the first conviction was Flynn as Trump took office.…seems like the number of Russian nationals that donated massive amounts to Trump’s campaign are likely triple digits....your nothing burger

A Republican strategist was sentenced Friday to 18 months in prison for his role in helping funnel illegal foreign campaign contributions from a Russian national into former President Trump's 2016 campaign, per the Department of Justice.

Jessie Benton, a former senior aide to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), orchestrated a scheme to conceal the illegal foreign donation with another GOP political advisor.

Benton, 45, was convicted in November of conspiring to solicit and cause an illegal campaign contribution by a foreign national, effecting a conduit contribution, and causing false records to be filed with the Federal Election Commission, per the DOJ.
Benton arranged for the Russian national to attend a political campaign fundraising event and take a photo with Trump, federal prosecutors said.

The Russian national wired $100,000 to Benton's political consulting firm to make an illegal foreign contribution. But Benton allegedly pocketed $75,000 and gave $25,000 to the campaign, falsely identifying himself as the donor.
The campaign unknowingly filed reports with the FEC that inaccurately reported Benton as the source of the funds instead of the Russian national, per the Justice Department.

ALSO…Trump is also under investigation by Jack Smith for the biggest campaign finance fraud in history, possibly the biggest money laundering scheme in U.S. history, $800 million laundered through his lackey’s (and his own) fake LLCs created for the sole purpose of taking in money from Trump’s campaign. these companies provided nothing for the money besides kickbacks to Trump. They suckered you again…took your money, pocketed it, and laughed their asses off at how dumb you cultists are. It was obvious…his campaign never paid their bills but was constantly begging for ever more cash.

Biden and the June job reports

luxintenebris says...

the concept that an R has to vote R is akin to mental illness. a serious disfunction in preception.

when Mitch the Turtle was up for re-election, he polled at 13% for how well KY citizens thought he did his job but 26% said they would vote for him (at the time of the poll).

that translates to 1/4 of KYians unable to conceive having a choice. Cult over civilization.

that's f'n stupid¹⁰.

how could a Blue be WORST than 3/4 awful? seems real, really, really pessimistic. In many Red states, it is still 40% Blue. wouldn't that mean 40% failure rates across the communities? sincerely doubt most people could pick 40/100 Blues out a crowd, even at a RATM concert.

It's fodder from the bull shute.

Lol….I almost missed that one….Mitch, the face and true leader of the party for 30 years is a RINO, not Trump who was a Clinton democrat beyond the 2000’s. LMFAHS!!

You loved him like a son when he did Trump’s bidding, now you hate him because he said Trump did something bad (even though he helped Trump get away with it).
You are so paper thin and transparent. You really aren’t even trying to look like you mean anything you say anymore.

I know you’ll love him again if he gets the power to block any hearings on any appointments in the future….because that’s so good for America and democracy.

This is you party? This is you pick…. over America, democracy, and decency?

You choose the Anti-American, Anti-democracy failed wannabe conmanarch (just coined that word, not a typo) and his self serving hypocritical directionless sycophants over democracy and rule of law?…and you really think anyone believes you’re even an American, much less a patriot? No one here thinks that, not for a decade +.

It is to laugh.

PS…..Bayraktar, comrade. I hope they’ve taken out some of your close family by now….more neonazi russian scumbags turned to compost….the best thing they ever did.

New Rule: Make America Grind Again

luxintenebris says...

As Jimmy Kimmel once said (paraphrasing), "The difference between a Rush Limbaugh fan and a Bill Maher fan is, fans of Bill KNOW he is an a**hole!" * And Bill talking about manhood is like Ted Cruz advising someone on how to make friends.

The Ball Count:
Those numbers are stark. Have seen similar numbers. CDC birthrates suggest bleakness. But suggest it isn't lack of manliness but the whole American lifestyle. Long work hours w/low compensation; having little say in how the government works; medical insecurity - - stress, stress, stress - - w/o many signs of hope. (lost a bundle on the Mitch McConnell security blankets)

a lot of issues brought up in his monologue but has very few clues to the reasons.

'Tho his answer to INCELS has already been better stated...
