He only wanted some bacon!

MycroftHomlz says...

Dude. You can't be serious.

>> ^Pprt:

Hrm. Before Muslims arrived in the West, I don't recall Jews clamoring for Kosher KFCs. Perhaps you're underestimating how frustrating it is to sit idly by and witness Islam take over the public space, or perhaps you don't even notice.>> ^spoco2:
I fucking HATE how the comments on Youtube are, in the majority, comprised of people saying that Muslims should go back home, or that the religion as a whole is the cause of this etc. etc.
No, that's not the case. THIS dickwad has serious fucking anger management issues, is a serious shithead and cannot possibly comprehend that others may not adhere to his religious beliefs.

EVEN if the guys shooting the video went in with the intention of causing shit by asking for bacon when they knew it was a Halal KFC, EVEN if that is the case. This guy is an A-Grade angry shithead that is going to be causing a lot more grief to himself, others and especially women over the cause of his life.
So fuck those that turn this into a religious, bigoted rally cry to 'get them out of our country'. This is a video of ONE shithead (maybe two if the cameraman intended to rile him up), not a whole race or religion.

I know that there are time constraints and you can't just let guests rail on their talking points without challenge, but at least for me personally it isn't particularly kosher or persuasive to let the guy say 3-5 words and then interrupt him, shout at him, and say that he is dodging the issue, etc.

Yes, he did dodge the question. Yes, when he was actually given a chance to string a sentence together it was meaningless talking point drivel. That is what is persuasive. Let him talk. Give him ample opportunities to drop doublethink, non-sequitors, and cognitive dissonance. And then, call him on it.

Real vs. Fake Net Neutrality

NetRunner says...

@charliem, I don't know about two entirely separate beasts. Prioritization is otherwise known as class-based traffic shaping. You're right to say I shouldn't ignore that technical distinction, but the whole discussion with Net Neutrality is about intent.

If you're using traffic shaping to sell a capped amount of bandwidth from a larger pipe, I think we all agree that's okay, so long as the provider is upfront with their customer about what they're purchasing. Net Neutrality hasn't, won't, and shouldn't stop that use of traffic shaping.

I also think that if you use traffic shaping to enhance the overall end-user experience (by prioritizing throughput for video, latency for games, and prioritizing neither for bulk data transfers), that we agree that's ethically kosher.

My point is that it's easy for someone to pretend they're "enhancing the user experience", when their intent is really to limit free speech, or engage in anti-competitive business practices.

We also have the network providers saying they want to implement QoS tiering based on subscription fees as well as implement metered bandwidth services (i.e. you don't pay a subscription fee for a piece of a pipe, you pay per MB or GB of bandwidth used). Only they don't express it as a desire so much as saying that if they don't, their profit margins will be smaller the internet as we know it is doomed.

Criminal Arrest Warrant Issued For Dick Cheney in Nigeria

entr0py says...

Nigeria IS a member state of Interpol. It wouldn't do anything, but it would be entertaining to see them try to issue an international warrant for his arrest and extradition. Failing that, I hear extraordinary rendition is pretty kosher now.

TDS: The Hurt Talker

If you're going to worry about offensive language, consider that someone who's progressed beyond racism has no reason to avoid words like nigger.

I think this comment goes to show that you don't understand the nature of what racism is, what growing beyond it would mean, nor why people should try to outgrow it.

A person who knows the meaning and history of the word nigger, and who is "beyond racism", understands that they need to tread carefully in using that word, lest they hurt feelings.

If someone uses it to intentionally hurt people's feelings, even if it's just from a self-interested desire to draw attention rather than to denigrate others, then in no sense are they "beyond racism", they're racist assholes.

I suppose if society forgets what these terms mean entirely, it might be kosher to just use them without regard for other people's feelings, but I think ignorance of the past is dangerous, so people should remember what they mean and universally disapprove of using them.

Comparing one speech to a person who is on the radio for 15 years with all that entails is not really kosher, is it?

Not to mention the "subtle" change in musical score...
That being said- I sure hope nobody bothers coughing up Mr Beck in 15 years to make a point.

Why "Back to the Future" is Secretly Horrifying

entr0py says...

Good to see them doing something on par with Cracked TV. Agents of Cracked was a disappointment, and Does Not Compute is a bit too fast and overproduced. But this series has promise.

Also, I have to point out that Forrest Gump was not a retard. He had an IQ of 75, 5 points above retardation. All perfectly kosher.

So can you fix a Discarded video? (Asia Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

@kronosposeidon

Well, there are some inherent problems with allowing it. If you're absolutely certain no one has sifted it afterwards, then alright, but if you promote a discarded one that another member has sifted again, you will essentially make the newly posted one a dupe and that's definitely not kosher or nice. In fact, it's a complete dick move.

I agree it's a shame that comments are wasted if a post is discarded/killed, but like I said a way to merge of comments would be wonderful.

kronosposeidon says...

*Promoting discarded videos is 100% kosher. It has been that way ever since the *save invocation was dropped. Discarded videos CAN be legitimately resurrected. Just check out this video's comment history if you doubt it. No one did anything wrong when they * promoted it back to life - repeatedly.

* Discard doesn't mean a video is taken out of commission permanently. That's what the * kill function is for. >> ^gwiz665:

It's not kosher to resurrect a discarded video, even if it was put there before the dead pool.
Discarded is discarded.
That said, it's certainly possible. What I would like is a dupeof that merges comments. It makes no sense not to.

I agree the fears are unjustified--but what I do not agree with are people's abilities to get over fears, misconceptions, hatred, jealousy, envy, sadness, and oh yeah, love for pie and all things pie...

I respect the great hope, but I look at it like this. If it ever came down to feeding my own children or doing wrong by someone else--I know where my loyalties lie... Sorry humanity! Heck, most people wrong each other for far less. At least I have those values...

Hey Net, I agree with you and am in pretty much the same area as you... I would like, however, to point out what runs your opponents' mindset. Fear.

I get that. But...I generally give people the benefit of the doubt about being able to engage their rationality and quash their fears. Get people to think about what they're reacting to a little more, and see if it really makes sense.
Obama has the codes to launch America's nuclear weapons. Obama is, as President, Constitutionally immune from prosecution of crimes -- he could go on a mass murdering spree, and all we could legally do is impeach him. He's allowed to negotiate and sign treaties on our country's behalf (though it won't necessarily have the force of law without Congressional approval).
This has been true of every President since Truman (and before that we just didn't have the nukes).
Presidents wield lots of power, but less than most Prime Ministers from other countries. In other countries, there is essentially perfect party discipline, and flat majority rule. No vetoes, no filibusters, no unanimous consent, nothing.
Being able to use pure influence as the head of state to negotiate a voluntary agreement seems perfectly kosher by any standard. If BP gets denied redress via courts, believe me, we'll hear about it!
Hell, if someone gets screwed by this ICF, we'll hear about it!
It's one of the built-in benefits of having a Democratic president -- their critics always get easy access to a media megaphone. The scary part happens when Republican presidents get the media to systematically silence dissent...
