Pedestrian Question - Do You Have a Black Friend?

cloudballoon says...

Most of Kimmel's viral videos (except the teary eye ones) are offensive like these. His Mean Tweets segments are the worse. These enable trolls to have a field day to say the most offensive things to celebrity.

I get that celebrities need to eat some humble pies, but not this way. Not cool.

Just plain don't like both Jimmies.

Sagemind said:

Personally, I find the question itself offensive.

Now I'm not the type of person who gets offended, but the question is set up in a way that just plain sounds degrading to any friend you may know. It's setting the friend up to be there purely because they are black - the token black friend.

I just think there is a much better way to have phrased the question.

Drag Queen Gives Impassioned Speech About Homophobia

VoodooV says...

you just went right over his head @enoch

all I know is that @lantern53 just can't stop talking or thinking about homosexuals. He can't seem control himself as he is apparently forced to comment on virtually every sift involving alternative sexuality.

such obsession....such devoted passion! Pulsing and throbbing with energy!

Something tells me the psychologists would have a field day with fabulous ole lantern here.

Jon Stewart epic Sean Hannity take-down. Truth recovered.

VoodooV says...

This is just the standard "Must oppose anything federal as long as Obama is in office even though he may have nothing to do with it"

I almost want the Republicans to retake the White House in 2016 so we can have a field day pointing out all hypocrisies when they suddenly become pro-federal gov't and talk about how we have to trust our president, when they're in office and spend more than the left *ever* has which has been shown before.

...almost.

Testing Crows' Causal Understanding of Water Displacement

grinter says...

My head hurts too much to read the paper right now, but I suspect that most of this can be attributed to learning, and that a 'causal understanding' is not being demonstrated here.

The important figure to look at here is Fig 3, specifically the first trial in figure 3, before the crows had a change to learn each particular task. Performance is, slightly, better than chance for each task except tasks D and F. But these are NOT naive birds. There are only 6 crows used in this experiment, and before the experiment they were all trained to perform a water displacement task for food reward. The better than chance performance on the first trial for some of the tasks could, and probably is, a result of the similarity between the 'correct' choice in that task and the training condition.
A: A water filled tube is more like the water filled tube in the training condition, than is a sand filled tube.
B: Heavy blocks are more like the heavy stones used in the training condition than are the light blocks.
C: Solid black weights are more like the black stones used in the training condition than are the hollow cages.
E: A nearly full tube is more similar to the training condition (which took only two stones to reach the food) than a nearly empty tube.
Tasks D and F, where the crows did not perform better than chance, have choices much more difficult to distinguish from the training condition (with both choices in F being nearly identical to the training condition).
What's more, the sample size is tiny, with a max of 6 birds for any task, and only 4 of these same (very experienced) birds for tasks E and F. You cannot do meaningful statistics with a sample size of 4.
If someone who has actually read the whole paper wants to show me how I'm wrong please do. Until then, I think the editors at PLoS ONE need to be more careful with their choice of reviewers. The journal, although noble in it's stated mission, is still young, and its reputation is still fragile.
"Our results indicate that New Caledonian crows possess a sophisticated, but incomplete, understanding of the causal properties of displacement, rivalling that of 5–7 year old children." How on earth did they let that pass! They know the press will have a field-day with misleading statements like that.

The making of Bohemian Rhapsody

chingalera says...

...as well as fast-forward the evolution of music. Sound and Vision peoples, HELLLLO!? Profits be-damned, the love of ART is the root of all evol-ution.

People SHOULD have a field-day with remixes and samples, ask Terminator X if he gives a FUCK about how many lawyers can BE stuffed in a casket. DIG A GIANT HOLE!!

grinter said:

I'm sure they are.. people would have a field day with remixes and samples....
..but on the other hand, it allow for an even deeper appreciation of the music. It would be like the ultimate sound board bootleg.

I did indeed. What a fucking joke. And meanwhile people are starving, Iain Duncan Cuntsmith is kicking off at Trussel Food Banks and trying to imply they're only criticising the government to aid their business model. A charity! And now the gagging laws are through, he's going to have a field day, that narcissist shitbat.

Did you see the CPS trying to prosecute people for bin dipping under the 1824 Vagrancy Act?

"Public interest", my ass.

You know what, since all they did was drop the charges, all the other poor schmucks will have to face the same bloody risk as these three lads. I have seen rozzers staking out bins over here, no chance in hell they're not doing it over there as well.

I'd like the Guardian, or anyone for that matter, to sink their teeth into this shit and find out who thought it was in the public interest to go after them for skipping. All this pre-Victorian behaviour is a fucking disgrace.

Hawaii Plane Crash Caught On Tape

SDGundamX says...

Oh God, birthers are going to have a field day with this one.

The one person who died in the crash was none other than Loretta Fuddy--the person who confirmed that President Obama's Hawaii birth certificate was real.

Apparently she survived the crash, got her life vest on, and was floating outside the aircraft waiting for rescue when she mysteriously died. No report on cause of death although since she was 70 I don't think it is too much of a stretch to think that the shock of the ordeal might have caused her to have a heart attack.

Still, autopsy results have yet to be revealed apparently....

Glenn Beck's Argument For Marriage Equality is Best One Yet

VoodooV says...

support for same sex marriage is already over 50 percent. As it gets higher and higher and more states legalize it, we're just going to see more people flip. Though granted, I don't really recall any particular moment where Beck ever spoke out against homosexuality, but I guess the assumption is that he is fairly religious, thus against it.

But anyway, this is just going to happen more and more as the tide changes. Jon Stewart is going to have a field day showing clips of people saying irrefutably homophobic things in the past who are now suddenly pro-same sex marriage.

The thing is, they probably are still against homosexuality, but it's going to inevitably be a necessity to support same sex marriage if one hopes to stay in elected office or keep their job

so we're going to trade closeted homosexuals for closeted homophobes except this time, we'll want them to stay in the closet because when it comes right down to it, I don't give a shit if you hate homosexuals as long as you can keep it to yourself and treat everyone with equality

I don't get why coaches think officials are idiots. We know you're trying to cheat the system, we know you're not trying to call a time out. You're a lying sack of crap and you should be called on it.

Have you been following what's going on at all? These aren't the regular officials. These are replacements called up from like division III college football. They are getting the rules wrong. They aren't calling personal fouls. Players are getting hurt. Teams are getting four, five timeouts in a half because the officials don't know what they're doing.

Yeah I have been following what's going on. It must be pointed out that several colleges are doing studies on this and what they found is that the same number of calls and mistakes have been made by the replacement officials as were made by the regular officials by this time last year.

A lot of the sports media is having a field day with this because controversy, even made up controversy generates pageviews and ratings. You are being fed sensationalist lies. I believe having watched several games this season that these guys aren't as good as the officials they replaced but they're much better than the media and stupid fans would have you believe.

They're also A MILLION FUCKING TIMES BETTER, than the fatass fucks that are constantly saying they're shit. Fatass fans need to shut up and volunteer to referee, we're always needing more because they quit after being screamed at too much by dumbass fans.
