New Airplane Seats - You Cannot Actually Even Sit On Them

moodonia says...

I read somewhere that the British air safety people have said they wont allow any civilian carriers to fly in or out of the UK with this system.

Which pretty much screws ryanair.

Couple of points, your face would be awful close to the seat back in front of you if you do happen to be in for some serious turbulence or bumps, even non emergency events could have you "simulate" a face plant.

Secondly, at the British Midland crash in the mid eighties in northern england (Kegworth??), a common occurrence was sitting passengers legs flailing forward on impact and being broken on the seat in front. Seems that would be more pronounced if your standing. Also, the passengers on that flight who were able to fold down the seat in front (if it was empty) were more likely to survive, others suffered serious head injuries or were killed outright by hitting the seatback in front.

<Doris Buckner: I called the Commissioner and he said he'd send his very best man.

Roger Stanford: Is that a fact.

Lt. Columbo: My wife says I'm the second-best, she claims there are eighty men tied for first.>

That's how I see it, except for the <men> part, insert Sifters please.

Thank ye, nonetheless.

Watch for the Black Hole "Remake"

Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski takes on 1979 sci-fi film
"Disney are going back to the eighties with a reinvention of the sci-fi classic The Black Hole. The remake has a top team behind it with direction from Tron Legacy's Joseph Kosinski and screenplay courtesy of Travis Beacham who penned Clash of the Titans. They have also have producer Sean Bailey involved on the potentially 3D project.

The original, directed by Gary Nelson, at the time was the most costly Disney film ever made, and saw the longest computer graphics shot at that point in history leaving it with nominations for cinematography and visual effects at the Academy Awards that year.

The remake will recount in much more detail, the story of spaceship Palamino discovering the presumed dead Dr. Hans Reinhardt in a lost, robot controlled ship hovering over a black hole. Reinhardt, even after twenty years, remains to determind to find what lies beyond the hole - be that immortality or oblivion...

WTF Canada... Milk in bags??

vermonter says...

When I was growing up in the Albany, NY area in the late eighties they test marketed this approach to selling milk. So, I do recall getting milk in bags like this for a period of a year or so. Obviously, it never stuck and I'd just assumed the idea was dead. Funny to see it lives on in Canada.

Of course those large cafeteria milk dispensers with a weight you lift to allow the milk to flow just have big plastic bags on the inside as well.

I'll be sure to stay away from wherever it is you're all at. Did I hear someone say the great "make better society" Europe?

Great Video Explaining How A Vehicle's Differential Works

ReverendTed says...

Excellent explanation. Makes it clear why the old Eighty-Eight we had left one tread mark when it peeled out. (And highlighting the need for a limited-slip differential. I'm with Aero up there, I'm curious how those work.)
