Russian Roulette at Russian Wedding

spoco2 says...

I'm utterly friggen horrified on a number of levels, but upvote as I want to know the full story on this.

I completely agree with you in that he didn't pull the trigger on himself at all...

OK... I've now gone to the youtube video, and looked at The Daily Mail article about it.

HE is a complete fucktard who said "I wanted to perform my party trick. I expected lots of applause after I did it and never guess someone would repeat it." What kind of fucking brain-dead, shit for brains idiot would think that you'd get applause for pretending to play Russian roulette? I mean seriously? How small is your fucking brain? If HE had shot himself in the head then there probably would have been no damage, just a bullet going into an empty cavity.

DICK.

The other guy is a complete moron for doing it also though, who puts a gun to their head and pulls the trigger, jesus... but the first guy is pretty much entirely at fault here.

British police caught sledging with their riot shields

I'll bet no one had a problem with this until 'taxpayers money' was mentioned. And even then it was just the Daily Mail and Guardian readers.

Sorry Im horrible at getting myself understood the first time on these things I think my brain over thinks simple conversations sometimes. I guess what I was thinking was what the likely hood of that kind of thing happening again was or does it happen often? Do people seriously get harassed a lot? I was even thinking of taking a trip there one day and I wanted to have a good experience. I guess Im wondering if thats likely?

Ive actually thought of Denmark it looks like a beautiful place but the language barrier would be huge for me. I actually know a little French thought of moving close to the coast where I could take a ferry to the Isle.
Thanks for your input.

I'm not sure I understand your question fully, but if you're asking me for a ratio of goths to degenerate low-life then I would say 1: many. Aimless, jobless, intent-on-criminality pond life are legion in this country, although in part I suppose that's down to the government as unemployment is high and aspirations are low among the young in the less privileged parts of our society. Forget England, apparently Denmark is a very nice place to live (well at least according to a friend who spent a few months there) if you are looking for tolerant, friendly folk and a youth culture that doesn't revolve around loitering on the streets and haranguing members of the public. I'm starting to sound like the Daily Mail now, So I'd better shut up

In reply to this comment by ctrlaltbleach:
Yes I have often thought that moving to England would be some kind of a dream. From hearing about this and what you have said maybe I was wrong. I really thought it would be the king of place where people could walk down the street at night and smile and say hi and be nice to everyone.
A question for you. You say you live in the area. What do you think is the percentage of people that are goth or different according to the people who committed these crimes? Or do you know?

Really shocked that this happened in England. I always thought Europeans were more tolerant of others. Now I'm starting to realize maybe there is no place on the earth where everyone can be happy together.

I live quite near to where this girl was killed. I'm afraid that any romantic notion you had of England doesn't exist any more - we are under siege from feckless, moronic, feral youths who engage in low levels of criminality (and the occasional high profile case) with near impunity. God help you if you ever decide to take one of the little bleeders down a peg or two, though, as you'll more than likely be the one who ends up banged up.

Edit: That's a cringe-worthy related link at the bottom of the page; Sophie Ellis Baxter's Murder on the Dancefloor? Only if they play your song..

Katie Piper's Struggle After Rape and Acid Attack

chilaxe says...

Life is dangerous. Don't mess around. Don't date steroid addicts and retards. The stakes are high, and all it takes is one mistake...

I was surprised when I read they had been giving life sentences. As you'd expect though, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be incarcerated for very long:

"Both were jailed for life and Lynch will serve a minimum of 16 years. But Katie still has nightmares and fears Lynch’s release. When he obtained a phone illegally in jail he used it to post a message on the internet saying how much he missed her." Dail

Let's see what wikipedia has to say about this tabloid trash that is the Daily Mail : "The Mail takes an anti-EU, anti-abortion view, based upon "traditional values", and is pro-capitalism and pro-monarchy, as well as, in some cases, advocating stricter punishments for crime. It also often calls for lower levels of taxation."

Wow... That's like using Fox News as a "non-biased" source to show that every American thinks healthcare is fine as it is in the U.S. Of course the British, like everyone else, call for better everything. After all, the government is FOR THE FUCKING PEOPLE. Do you not get that? It is your right to be critical of the government. And given the choice, people will complain more than they will send flowers. After all, when all goes well "they're just doing their jobs".

Good to see the bloody Daily Mail continue it's program of fear, uncertainty and doubt. I wouldn't trust this publication with any medical advice *ever*, and you would be wise to do the same. Do not use the DM as y our only source of medical advice, because it will certainly be hazardous to your health. That is a guarantee.

Stephen Fry kills anti-EU myths - Qi

Quboid says...

I'm surprised no-one knew the last one was from Yes Minister.

Excellent panel - David Mitchell is basically a young Stephen Fry, Dara O'Brien is always excellent. Phil Jupitus rarely has an off day too. I think my QI dream team would be David Mitchell, Dara O'Brien and Rich Hall, with Phil Jupitus and Sean Lock on the bench.

MaxWilder - I think that's intended, as a comment on how much drivel the Daily Mail and it's ilk spew on us.

Georgian Reporter Shot on Live TV

chilaxe says...

Reporters are being killed in the conflict and part of the aim in these kinds of ethnic conflicts is to frighten the opposing ethnic group, so a sniper fucking with a reporter wouldn't necessarily be surprising. According to the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (wiki):

Four journalists were among hundreds killed in fighting between Russia and Georgia that began on 8 August 2008.

Cameraman Stan Storimans of Dutch television RTL-4 died and the station's Moscow correspondent was injured during Russian bombing of the Georgian town of Gori on 12 August, said Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Earlier in the day, RSF and the International News Safety Institute (INSI) reported that an unnamed Georgian reporter and his driver were killed when a shell hit their vehicle in Gori's main square.

One day earlier, Giga Chikhladze, head of Alania TV, and Alexander Klimchuk, head of the Caucasus Press Images agency and a correspondent for Itar-Tas, were killed in the breakaway republic of South Ossetia, apparently at a roadblock of pro-independence fighters.
Russian "Newsweek" reporter Orkhan Dzhemal said the journalists were attacked by South Ossetian militia after entering the conflict zone from Georgia, reported the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

According to the Dai
ly Mail
:

Siege-town Gori has become a deadly 'sniper's alley' with citizens at the mercy of rampaging militiamen - believed to be from the breakaway republic South Ossetia - looting and firing guns, some drunkenly.

On Sunday video footage caught reporters from two Turkish stations ducking and saying their last prayers as they were fired upon by Russian snipers.

One of the journalists was hit in the eye but his injuries are reportedly not thought to be life-threatening.

There have been atrocities on both sides, so undisciplined militia men isn't necessarily surprising either.

Jeremy Paxman on the Dissappearing Television Audience

HoRnO says...

'They don't operate by conventional journalist rules about checking facts and their unencumbered by any thought there might be more than one side of the story. The blogosphere is a place where everyone can scream and no one needs to listen'

All hail the journalist rules! We all know thanks to papers like the Daily Mail here in the UK or Fox News in america that we'll always see both sides of a story. They'll never push the own adgenda or show an obvious bias

Why Do ALL Europeans Hate America?

Octopussy says...

I was about to write a serious comment, but come to think of it: why would I?

For any non-European, not having access to Google or Wikipedia, persons out there: the sources quoted are very much totally not important media/talking heads. Even in the UK, hardly anybody knows who Margaret Drabble is and Stern Magazine, well, they scooped the “Hitler Diairies” once. And the Daily Mail...??? Please, that’s the British version of TMZ. On top of that nobody takes the Germans seriously (mainly because they themselves think they’re very serious people) and everybody in Europe dislikes them anyway and anti-Americanism is a very cute habit the French get engaged in from time to time as an entertaining way to distract themselves from all the suburban riots and farmers’ strikes.

And, oh yeah, it is really so difficult to have access to a non-biased and/or American view in Europe (seriously, no other part of the world is so full of cable, satellite dishes and internets accesses as Europe)

PS: ShakaUVM, I wouldn’t take one chance encounter with 4 (alleged) French (they could’ve been Swiss or Belgian) people as indicative of French perceptions about the US. Maybe you showered that day. As we all know, the French are very hostile to anybody who cares about personal hygiene while travelling ;-).

PPS: I seriously hope I didn’t offend BillOreilly with this post ;-).

PPPS: I’m so glad that we finally managed to stop talking about the farting cat (sooorrrry!!!!)
