WalMart - spreading like a virus

quantumushroom says...

Walmart has destroyed countless small businesses and replaced them with low paying warehouses selling cheap ass plastic crap.

Leftists always use this line about how the "poor small businesses" are ruined by Walmart, yet they're the same ones that want to tax the f**k out of small businesses so they can barely function. And how many employees can small businesses hire, even if they wanted to?

And of course, much of it was made possible by Clinton making China trading partner #1...enabling the Chinese to sell pure crap here at low prices, putting US industry/suppliers out of business and hurting the average worker

I ask all of you: of all the stuff you own, what percentage is stuff you keep for five years or more? I bet it's sentimental stuff, handmade stuff, stuff you made yourself or got as gifts, or larger investments like your car, big appliances, furniture. A lot of what you call "crap" are necessary items that are cheaper to replace. Walmart is obviously fulfilling a need, that ISN'T being fulfilled by crocodile tears from "poverty activists".

And for those so arrogant as to assume they know what even one other person "needs"---provided they're willing to humor you--you've got a long night of latte-sipping and convincing ahead of you, at the end of which you will only discover how much you have to learn.

QM, you are a serious idiot, but at least your pathetic drivel is funny.

Wish I could say the same about your green party soundbites, but they've been cut-n-pasted from Daily Kos too many times to count.

What I wish I could do with all of you who "hate" Walmart is make you run your own brick-and-mortar business for a year. See how 'easy' it is to make a profit.

U.S. Economy : The Philosopher's Stone

You really expect for Rong Paul to just come out and admit that he lied? I know you're not serious.
Sure it would make sense at the time. Ron Paul was on the wacko fringes back then too. The Ron Paul Report (and other incarnations) pandered to a certain loathsome fringe demographic that exists in your country. These types have always been drawn to, not repulsed by, racist rhetoric.

I'm glad you speak with such blanketed conviction about these fringe groups, which shows more of a agenda riddled bias than a fresh critical perspective. Still, I'm not sure we're on the same page here. You still haven't answered my questions above, except to say you think the reason why Ron Paul would be blatantly racist in the 90s and not so today is because he was on the wacko fringes back then, too? I'm completely lost. You say "too", so I suppose you mean he's still on the wacko fringe today, so that would prove my point above that he would also be racist today (part of that wacko fringe agenda, you know?) and therefore be willfully writing racist articles. But he's not.

To the contrary, he's writing against racism citing it as a problem of the heart. In his book (Revolution: The Manifesto) he writes a great deal against racism and points out the evils of government sponsored racism, such as why we have a ban against drugs like marijuana (which was motivated against Blacks, Mexicans and Jews). But, no, you claim he's putting all of this effort (even adding it into his book) because he's afraid to admit that he lied. I'm not sure your Daily Kos logic will work on me.

^I guess if you only read Huffington Post or Daily Kos (the liberals' Fox News) for your news, then it would be laughable. But, think about it for a second. If Paul endorsed -- or worse wrote -- those articles, then why lie about it now? If he was so publicly and outwardly racist in the 80s and 90s, why not be so outwardly and publicly racist now? Why deny it?

Is it because he was running for the highest public office? Well, he's not any longer. Also, he's been a public figure who has held public office for a long time, so that argument seems a bit shaky.

Read RP's own words about racism (skip to the last paragraph for his philosophy on healing racism): http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul68.html - that doesn't sound like an outwardly racist to me.

Planning to read some of Dawkins books.

Be a Proud Liberal (The West Wing)

NetRunner says...

The Democratic Party hasn't learned this lesson yet.

But the netroots have.

This is why the right wing try to smear Daily Kos and Huffington Post every chance they get. They've learned the lesson Bruno's talking about here. They've learned that we shouldn't cower and hide who we are and what we believe. We shouldn't accept the labels others place on us to demean and distort our philosophy, we need to defend ourselves, and toss some demeaning yet completely accurate labels going back the other way.

The game has changed since the Clinton years.

How are you going to follow the election on election day? (Election Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

If you want maximum objectivity, go for C-SPAN coverage, or PBS.

I'm going to be sitting at my computer, TV nearby with MSNBC on, and my web browser open to: VideoSift, Daily Kos, Talking Points Memo, Huffington Post Fivethirtyeight.com, CNN's election results page, and YouTube.

I'll be switching over to the Comedy Central election coverage at 10pm, and back to the real thing if it's still not decided by then (and I doubt it would be).

I'll have champagne on ice for victory, and whiskey nearby for sorrow-drowning.

I'll try to do a little armchair electoral math, Chuck Todd style as the night goes on, as I'm sure every network/site will.

One preview though:

2000 it was Florida, Florida, Florida
2004 it was Ohio, Ohio, Ohio
2008 it will be Virginia, Virginia, Virginia

Also keep an eye on the Senate races in Minnesota, Kentucky, and Georgia.

What the hell is going on here? (Blog Entry by NetRunner)

Countdown : KO on FOX News' Softball Palin Interview

like two kids calling each other names from across the school yard.

There was a diary on Daily Kos a few days ago making this same assertion that Bill O'Reilly and Keith Olbermann are two sides of the same coin. The consensus there was that there is no real comparison, as BillO and the FOX News team are chronic liars who make things up and present them as news, while KO (and Rachel Maddow) are pundits who dig up actual news and present their opinions on top.

I think it's an interesting argument since both personalities certainly have a lot of vitriol on the air, and I find it interesting to see how the argument plays out in various venues.

Olympic Censorship Now Obvious, Obnoxious. (Wtf Talk Post)

Fjnbk says...

I would guess that the Chinese government was not responsible for this, with self-censorship more likely.

The Chinese government is very inept at blocking Internet sites. Huffington Post is blocked, but Daily Kos is not. Sites related to Tibet can be reached with creative maneuvering. It's very hard to remove a video from the Internet entirely.

Your three examples of censorship hardly qualify as censorship, IMO.

FOX commentator likens Obama's Berlin speech to Hitler rally

Majortomyorke says...

Yeah, big deal. Whether told to worship the swastika or ban it, the good Germans blindly obey authority. Americas own PC nazis would love that level of mute obedience.

You miss the point. My reference was in regards to Germany attempting measures at preventing past mistakes. What more would you ask of them exactly? Your stance seems to put Germany - including the German people - in a lose-lose situation never able to dig themselves out of the hole created by an organization no longer alive today.

Never. Let's take a cue from liberals, who have been whining about American slavery (a worldwide phenomenon still going on in some parts of the globe) that seems to have ended in the USA some time ago. Don't worry, you can always fall back on "racism" and "imperialism" when you need to America-bash.

How convenient of you to simultaneously bash an ideology and support it as your own at the same time.

Liberals have absolutely no sense of humor when it comes to threats to their power trips. Unfortunately, B. Hussein Obamessiah is not universally adored. Krauthammer's subtle jab is smoother and more amusing than daily kos-holes and their "Bush = Hitler" bullshit. If anything, Krauthammer was being sarcastic about Germans' blind obedience.
B. Hussein Obama is a marxist with radical roots and questionable experience. Day by day his ignorarrogance is increasingly exposed. You want "change" without even knowing what he means.

You assume and generalize, all without evidence. A video of a Fox pundit makes a silly comparison that doesn't hold any water, his view is critiqued, somehow in your eyes that makes me a blind and faithful follower of the "Change" campaign. You have no idea what I support, nor is that the point being discussed in this video.

FOX commentator likens Obama's Berlin speech to Hitler rally

quantumushroom says...

In regards to the Germany = Nazi/Hitler argument. Don't be such a tool.

A powerful argument. *cough.*

Germany is somewhat adamant about removing any trace of Nazism even to the point of potential absurdity (the link is an example of a person being fined for selling anti-Nazi T-shirts).

Yeah, big deal. Whether told to worship the swastika or ban it, the good Germans blindly obey authority. Americas own PC nazis would love that level of mute obedience.

When the entire living population that had anything to do with the atrocities of WW2 have died (for the most part), at what point do you stop pointing the finger?

Never. Let's take a cue from liberals, who have been whining about American slavery (a worldwide phenomenon still going on in some parts of the globe) that seems to have ended in the USA some time ago. Don't worry, you can always fall back on "racism" and "imperialism" when you need to America-bash.

Also, I might add the absurd irony of comparing Obama to a Hitler-like figure. How is this comparison even remotely true?
