Charlie Parker laughing at Hawkins's attempt to do playback

messenger says...

The audio track was already laid down. It's the sight of him laughing at his co-performer that they didn't want on the reel.>> ^legacy0100:

I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's not actually 'laughing at' the attempt, but he is merely enjoying the moment. And perhaps the studio manager is telling him to shush because they can hear him chuckling.

Stunning gymnastics performance on Britain's Got Talent

It's really not that complicated. Alright, the triple back was impressive, but again - many Olympic gymnasts can perform this. The one arm hand stand was nice but again - I've seen this trick being performed by other top world gymnasts. So yeah, all in all - good, but not THAT GOOD!

Dude, you reference world-class athletes and OLYMPIANS for Christ's sake--as in a handful of people in 6 billion. Who exactly is it that could do this better? Pilobolus? Your Chinese gymnasts? One the girls in this troupe is TWELVE. When Branford Marsalis plays the fucking saxophone, you don't stand up and walk out cuz "He's no Charlie Parker." Ridiculous.

He didn't walk out on Branford Marsalis. He said that it was good. Chill out.

"I Got Rhythm" - solo version by John Pizzarelli

choggie says...

Don't have to have perfect pitch to do that....Idetic memory of ones' instrument...you play so much you remember what its going to sound like beforehand. Lots of performers do this.... one was Slam Stewart, bassist who hummed the notes as he bowed.
Mose Allison, Charles Mingus,Rashaan Roland Kirk, Keith Jarrett, how bout' Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton, with their talky-thingy-dealies.....

Charlie Parker, it has been said, the way he hit the woodshed, was by learning "I Got Ryhthm" in every key, and becomming proficient in them, using that song.....once he got that down, well....he also used a Rico #5 reed, which if anyone has ever blown woodwinds, is next to impossible to get a squeak out of, unless yer embrochures' like a foundry press.

Pizzarelli has such a great voice, reminds of Chet Baker....

Ray Charles-Live in Brazil 1963-Rare Saxophone Performance

EntertainmentMajor says...

I have several of the early Ray Charles recordings where he plays a little bit of Saxophone, but I have never seen video footage of him doing it before. I read where he got some help from Sax greats Lester Young and Charlie Parker while on the road. He became a pretty good player, but his piano work got more attention.
